  1. I and my lovely wife just returned from the Liberty of the Seas. We arrived in Miami this morning. Back in Minnesota now and it is 0 outside! Ship was lovely and service was great in all ways except for an event that occurred on the first day at sea. The activities staff advertised that they were going to be playing a game of bingo on Monday am and the prizes included a $500 dollar pot as well as a suite upgrade. My wife and I were sitting by the pool and were hesitant to leave our pool chairs as it was wall to wall people around the pool area. After some discussion we decided to make our way down and play the game. When we arrived at the advertised location which was the Sphinx theater, we were told that they were not yet selling bingo cards for the upcoming game. We waited about 15 minutes and during this time only a few more showed up to play. There was a total of about 40 people in the room at this time. A activities member came in and announced that due to lack of participants the game had been canceled. I told him that it was misrepresentation and a scam that they now were not playing the game due to it not being profitable for RCI. He did not respond. I then went to guest services and complained. They put me in touch with the person responsible for the bingo games on the ship. I explained to him my frustration as well as that there were others who left the room feeling the same way I did about it. He stated that it was company policy to cancel if they did not have enough people to cover the pot to be given away. I told him that was misrepresentation and that if I tried to do something like that at my business I would have customers never show up again to shop in my store. I then expressed that they need to have it in the small print and in the anouncements of the bingo games that there has to be a minium amount of people playing the game or else it will be cancelled. Due to this situation, I made no effort to play in any of the bingo games all week. How would one know if it would happen again? I have cruised RCI 5 times and their sister line Celebrity line 4 times. I have also cruised other lines in addition to these two. I was so turned off by this action of RCI that I will be not cruising their line again for some time. I do not appreciate my time wasted by mis-representation and scams!

If I understand your post correctly, you did not purchase a bingo card, only to be sent away without the chance to play. Therefore, this was no "scam," and if that's the inflammatory rhetoric you used when voicing your complaints, it's not wonder you didn't get a satisfactory response.

What you have described is an annoyance, poor customer service perhaps, but no "scam." In fact, your thread title seems to also be a "misrepresentation."

  2. After reading the responses here, I see this group is seperated into those who care, and those who just want to criticize. My reason for posting was not to look for sympathy. However, when someone responds saying the theft of your luggage is your own fault because you weren't thinking is showing ignorance. My daughter followed the advice of the ship, and did not place expensive items in her luggage (the ipod might be an exception to this). But just what do you suggest she do with her evening dresses? They aren't cheap, so would you have her carry them on her back so no one will steal them? Give me a break. The bottom line is the bags were stolen, probably unintentionally by someone who thought they were taking the right bag. Maybe there is not much the cruise lines can do when handling this number of bags. Maybe it is due to the overall size of the ship, and the number of people leaving at the same time. This is our first cruise on a ship this size. Our other cruises were on smaller ships. When we cruised Celebrity a few years ago on the Galaxy, the bags were placed in rows based on where you were in the ship. When you got your bags, you walked past a Celebrity employee who watched the proceedings. I agree there were no luggage checks, but at least someone was watching. I guess my point is, the cruise lines do not take any responsibility for your baggage, yet it was their system that caused the bag to be lost, and they do not appear to want to do anything about it.

When we were disembarking, there were a number of people carrying their own bags. I think, if we go on another megaship cruise, we will do the same.

Thanks to everyone's responses, and I hope this does not happen to you on your next cruise. By the way, we enjoy cruising so much, we still plan to continue. We just will plan to carry our own luggage.

    Mark

I don't see what this accomplishes other than giving you a false sense of security. If they are not matching the ticket on the bag with your claim ticket, then all they are doing is watching people calmly walk off with your bag, either by mistake or by intent.

I remember the old days when you couldn't leave the airport baggage claim area without providing your claim tickets to an employee, who would then match them to the tags on the bags. I guess those days are over.

  3. The giant leep by AMYBEAR that children viewing Quest would be the next Brittany was laughable. Do you really think the Anna and Brittany's grew up cruising with their families? I worry about the kids left home while Mom and Dad take a vacation. Sorry the OP had the experience he/she did, but no one has to leave or sit by. Perhaps handing the women her top and asking her to take it to her room would have helped.(probably would have been booed by some I'm sure). Life happens - all you can control is your response.

Yes, definitely laughable to conclude that a child that watches a Quest episode will turn out like Britney.

Also laughable to suggest that kids left at home while Mom and Dad take a vacation need to be worried about. Just as one cannot make the leap that a naughty cruise game could cause harm to a child with no further supporting data, one shouldn't post a dig at parents who might leave their children home for a week while they vacation. Could be a parent who never leaves their children for a minute is also abusive, emotionally neglectful or creepily obsessed, just as one who vacations once a year to bond with their spouse could be loving, giving, plugged in, and completely wonderful.

BTW, I do cruise with my kids, but I draw NO conclusions about any parent who does or does not.

To the poster who asked about adults only cruises, there really are very few. You'd have to cruise a line which does not cater to families (just google cruise lines and you can find the websites) and/or take the longer cruises. The 10 day and more cruises have far fewer children.

  4. I understand your problem and I agree that maybe the show might have gone over the top. But I don't think it was RCL's job to enforce the age and anyone offended by it, should have left. That's why there is a door. The same is true of TV, if you are offended by the TV show, there are 50 more channels and a little buttons on the remote that says channel up and down.

I agree with much of your post, but on this one I waver. If they say adults only (and I don't know that they do, but the OP insists...), then children should be asked to leave. It doesn't take someone checking all ID's at the door to recognize a child, though older teens might be iffy. The same goes for the adults only pool. If it says adults only, that should be enforced. I don't agree that the parent should get to decide that his kids swims in the solarium if the printed policy says otherwise. I should not have to LEAVE the solarium if I don't like it, the one who is underage according to ship policy is the one who should have to haul buns.

Of course, all this is moot if there was in fact no written or announced policy of adults only at the Quest game.

  5. I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with it. Today's society is so weird like that. people think that two loving adults (who by the way are in a solid and loving marraige) having sex while in the same room as their kids (which by the way - sex created) is gross? See that's exactly what's wrong with this society! We need to go back to the days of one room cabins and the family unit (and a lot of the world is still like that) so that our children will understand what a strong marraige is all about!

Personally, I wouldn't exactly want my kids to see the whole kit and kaboodle but I have no problem with my children knowing that my husband & I have sex. It's a major part of a connected marraige. And I pray to god that my kids will learn what a marraige is supposed to be like from me and not America with it's high divorce rates.

I can communicate quite well to my children what makes a strong marriage without including them in my lovemaking. I don't believe sex is gross and I don't want my kids to think so either. I do, however, believe it is very private, as their own sex lives one day should be. My kids knowing my husband and I have sex - absolutely. My kids knowing I am doing it right in the same room with them - no, that's just between me and him, or should be. Just MHO.

  6. if its a narcotic--any controlled substance--then yes you do need a prescription.

Retin A works great for my son with a acne problem--cleared it up within 2 weeks.. (yes, drs approval but costs way too much here)

Are you saying that non-controlled substances such as blood pressure medicine, cardiac drugs, and cholesterol meds can be purcahsed without a prescription?! Kind of dangerous policy if true.

  7. I did not SAY RCI sold cheap cabins to people just from PR,,I did not say people from only PR did not leave tips..I didnt mention ONE word about the people from PR...I did say RCI sold cabins at a very reduced rate last miniute..,that the Windjammer was a joke,,that kids were in adult pools..PLEASE READ again,,I didnt say they were kids of any race or ethnicity.I said bathrooms were dirty....,that I enjoyed my waiter,,my cabin attendent..by the way I love PR,,just wont sail from there,,some of you make a mountain out of ONE persons' opinion, and don't even read things precisely & properly,,but comment on them..,,,,This quote from this thread... is as far fetched as they come,,," As for those not being comfortable in "multicultural" groups, well, I´m so sorry for you, since the only consequence that a multicultural experience will have in your person, will be to enrichen your personal culture. If your choice is to deny yourself of that enrichment, it is your choice" WHERE DID I SAY A THING ABOUT not being comfortable,,you don't even know what race I am..HELP~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I believe this is what caused people to make assumptions about what you meant in your post:

"I do not think I will ever sail out of SJ again,,RCL sold off cabins..for $310 for 2 people....reach your own conclusion,,"

You told people to reach their own conclusions about your statement, and many people did. Apparently they misconstrued your meaning when you yourself basically asked them to read between the lines...
