  1. Thank you everyone for your useful feedback.  I apologise for not replying sooner but cataract operation took priority!  I contacted Saga and they said it will be possible to take rollator on tender if as someone said I can meet requirements regarding boarding the tender.

  2. I am grateful for the reassuring comments.  My rollator folds down, is very light and I am hoping it will be permitted on the tenders with help from the crew.  I will abide  by any decision the cruise line take .

  3. Thank you for your reply.  On my last cruise I was quite able to negotiate the stairs to the tender but only used a walking stick then and the crew were very helpful. Once on board I will check with the excursions team and hopefully I will be able to have my rollator with me ashore.

We travel on a lot of family group cruises.  One of our group uses a rollator.  She has always been able to take it on a tender (RCI, Princess, Celebrity).   Of course there is no guarantee you will be able to, especially if things are really rough.  On our last cruise it was announced scooter and wheelchairs would not be allowed.  Nothing said about rollators.  Take your time, be careful, and enjoy.  Oh, and ignore any posts suggesting you are inconveniencing others.

BTW, My computer's auto-correct absolutely hates the word "rollator".   Haha.

  5. On a previous cruise with Saga there were a few people with rollators when we went on coach excursions.  I have a mobility problem and use a rollator for walking outdoors and just wanted to know if I could take it on a tender as well as the coach.

  6. Thank you for your reply.  I too would hope the captain would not allow them on a tender if there was any  risk with weather conditions.  I will endeavour to get my question answered  by Saga themselves but posted in the hope that there may have been someone who had actually taken their rollator on a tender

Your muster station will be identified on your key card and on the inside of the door to your cabin -- along with a map showing the routes to the stairs you should follow. There will be plenty of crew members in place guiding you to your muster station. If you are unable to negotiate stairs, you should talk to Saga ahead of time. I don't know whether there is a limit on the number of people who can get assistance for muster drill as this is supposed to enact what would happen if a real emergency were to occur.

EDIT: My cabin was on C Deck (deck 9) and my muster station was in the Living Room (deck 5).

I have just arranged assistance for my cruise on Spirit of Adventure and there is a limit on the number of people this can be offered to so this must be requested when booking and not left until check-in

No cash, but a credit card with chip and PIN is highly recommended. Most terminals are contactless and will also accept Apple Pay.

Chip and PIN is the standard payment method in Iceland, and many small businesses as well as automated machines and self-service terminals, may not accept magnetic stripe cards or signature-based transactions.

    Thank you

  9. I have booked Saga's icelandic Explorer for 28th July.  Unfortunately I was admitted to hospital in March and a new medical condition was diagnosed.  It was uncertain if Saga would insure me. I do have other medical conditions which were accepted in the screening process.  However Saga have come back to me and are willing to delay payment of the final balance until 9th June when  hopefully I will be able to report no further incidents with the newest medical condition for three months and I will then be covered fully on their insurance.  I have made tentative enquiries re other insurance companies  to be on the safe side but hopefully I stay symptom free to avoid paying in the region on £400 for this one trip with another company!  Am very happy with service received from Saga.

  10. In the light of the U.K. government advising all over 70s not to Cruise I contacted my Travel Agent to cancel my cruise on Spirit for 31st May RT Athens.  There was no problem and I have left it with TA who are applying for a full refund on my behalf.  I am not obliged to accept the FCC as decision has been made Iine with U.K. Government guidelines.  Did not really fancy taking FCC as do not want to be obliged to book with NCL if there is a better deal elsewhere when I opt to take another cruise.

Might be worth checking with travel agents to see whether they can get you a better deal than having NCL dictate what you do with your money.

  11. Was due to sail on Spirit on 31st May.  As the government here in U.K. are advising people over 70 not to cruise decision really made for me.  Contacted travel agent who are arranging the cancellation for me - will get a full refund in light of government directive and do not have to accept NCL’s FCC.  Did not fancy latter as did not want to be committed to booking with NCL if there could be a better deal later on.  Suggest anyone thinking about cancelling should check first with travel agent to get the best deal

  12. With sailings to Asia having been cancelled NCL have introduced a new itinerary for Spirit.  Departing Athens and calling at Rhodes, Kusadasi,Patmos, Mykonos, Argostoli, Kefalonia, Corfu, Santorini and back to Athens.  Just booked a balcony cabin at a great price considering I am a solo traveller.  Sailing on 31st May.  Have started a roll call so if anyone else has booked this cruise come and join.

  13. I was on Epic from Rome on 15th May.  We arrived back in Rome at 06.00 and EVERYONE who had an NCL transfer to the airport had to leave the ship at 06.30 irrespective of their flight times - this was awful for some, like myself who did not have return flights until late pm.  If going ashore independently with your own onward arrangements then the latest time you were allowed to stay on board was, I think, 09.00.

We board next Wednesday from Rome and would be interested to know this as well.  Also, I know tipping is not common but if there are porters that take your luggage, should you tip them a few euros?

On arrival at the port in Rome your luggage is taken by porters (no need to tip).  Make sure you have your luggage labels attached so that baggage handlers know where to send them.  Hang on to any hand luggage though.

Cases were pretty quick in reaching cabin.

    Have a great time.

    Thanks for the review.

I noticed your comment at the end - some of the other NCL ships in the Med not infrequently have inside have offers with no single supplement, so it's worth keeping an eye on them. I did the Greek Isles on the Jade that way.

Thanks for that info.  Will have to check out options.
