  1. Thanks for update, sorry you lost your bottle of port for the time being. Of course P&O want you to buy their tiny glasses of port @ 6 quid or so.

We weren’t really expecting to get the bottle on undetected and we’d already bought in-cabin bottles of spirits from room service anyway. It was interesting to see how swiftly (and politely) they dealt with it upon scanning. The trouble with the in-cabin bottles of spirits menu is that it is so limited. Hopefully they’ll broaden the offer in future.

It’s gala night tonight with some free drinks which has been very enjoyable [emoji851] (not that I’m only interested in drinking of course, I also enjoy my ice cream) [emoji41]

  2. Not pot luck. Our formal and theme nights are all listed clearly on Cruise Personaliser.

Can you describe where this information is located because I’ve looked and looked and can’t find where the formal and theme nights are listed?!

  3. I would suggest you'll get away with that especially considering the size. Some people try and take on almost full size cases.

Thanks. I’ll give it some thought. If they weigh everything then I’ll get caught out but I can pop the heaviest lens in my pocket which will help. I’m used to Southampton round trips where I don’t have to worry.

  4. Worth flagging that P&O drinks are far cheaper than Cunard's!

And there’s no 15% gratuity added either. I love Cunard but this is one of the reasons we are back on P&O again. Bring on the gin! [emoji851][emoji568]

  5. Thanks for all the insightful posts. We are used to smaller ships with less dining choice so we’re really looking forward to trying all the different speciality restaurants. We’ve got the Epicurian booked for dinner and afternoon tea, Sindhu for dinner, and The Limelight Club. The Epicurean is booked for my husband’s birthday so I’m hoping it is as good as everyone says it is. We like the idea of the Beach House so we hope to try that at least once, and I’m sure we’ll give the Glass House a try too. Then there are all the bars... [emoji851]

  6. We are on Britannia for the first time next month and we’ve opted for Freedom Dining. Can we choose and alternate between either the Peninsular or the Meridian or will we be allocated one? We’ve only sailed on Arcadia before where there is one Freedom dining restaurant. More recently we’ve been on Cunard with set dining.

We’re looking forward to trying out all the different dining options on a bigger ship. Enjoying good food is a big part of our holiday experience.

  7. You are probably right about the spirit prices. However, for us wine drinkers, the cheapest bottle is around £16.50, which is way more than I would pay at home.

    Indeed, a ‘fair’ comment! [emoji851]

Our last three cruises have been with Cunard so I’m also a little skewed in my view because P&O prices are much more reasonable and there’s no ridiculous +15% gratuity added.

We’ve come back to P&O for lots of reasons, it seems a better fit for us, but price is definitely a major factor.

  8. And now of course, you can't buy these cheap bottles to take back on board to your cabin, as they will be confiscated, and returned to you when you finally disembark.

Exactly! Which is why I’m pleased to see the fair pricing of these bottles. It’s just a shame the range is limited. Maybe they will increase the range now they have restricted carry-on alcohol.

  9. It must vary? Monkey 47 usually comes in 50cl bottles for about £35, I’ve not seen it in bigger bottles. Bombay Sapphire could come in 1l or 70cl, I’d expect 1l for £25. I’m surprised it doesn’t say on the menu.

  10. The number of each kind of evening is usually on your cruise personaliser. The formal evenings on a 14 night cruise will include a black and white ball, the captains reception and a gala dinner. There will usually be a fourth rather pointless one with no purpose other than to make up the quota of 4 formal evenings.

Thanks Denarius. The only info is “Dress Codes for your Cruise: 4 Black Tie Nights, 10 Evening Casual Nights” when I was expecting for a bit more detail!

  11. Do P&O give you any details of the formal nights in advance? Last time we were on board was in 2014 and I can’t remember what information we had last time. We’ve been cruising with Cunard since then and are used to getting details (dates and themes) in advance.

  12. I can recommend the sail in and out of Liverpool. We were very lucky to do it twice and bring her sisters the second time !

I’m very envious! To be on the river with all three queens, it must have been amazing. :)

  13. I was considering that round trip as well - but I think we will book M929B for the round trip [NY-Southampton-Hamburg-Southampton-Le Harve-NY]

The eastbound crossing is also the National Symphony crossing - and that was quite nice this September.

The trouble is, there are so many superb itineraries and, for me, not enough time or money to do them all!
