my last cruise was not so fun because of Hurricane Matthew on the Valor, first off we didn't leave until 9 pm that eve and not board til 3, family had flight cancelled due to hurricane and ship was half full (you would think that would be a good thing). The problem was we had an aft extended cabin and they decided to use the empty ship to perform maintenance (painting) which did not allow us to use the balcony hardly at all (paint fumes) and spent 2 days in Nassau and its hard to go to a place to have fun when people are suffering from a cat 5 hurricane the day before. They gave us a 100 pp room credit for next cruise for the balcony issue and everyone got 25 percent off next cruise for the itinerary change I thought it was fair so we are using it for our next cruise in 2 weeks! Everything cant be perfect, not happy about the lobster tails though

My wife and I sailed the Paradise as our first cruise and have been on 2 other Carnival ships the Freedom and the Valor and the steakhouse and Guys burgers will be missed I appreciate the smaller ship and we are going again on the Paradise in 2 months

just got back from our 2 day in Nassau and no they were not open

Someone mentioned above that even with Carnival insurance, you will not get any refund. That is not true, you will receive a 75% refund for a future cruise. There is also a department you can email to review your claim and see if they will refund instead or even give the full amount in a future cruise. My clients were booked on Victory on Sun. Their flights and pre cruise stay has been cancelled. They cannot get there so we are going to try for a full refund or cruise credit. If they only get 75%, they will accept it and move on. We rebooked them and they are leaving on a different cruise from Galveston on Sunday.
Wishing everyone luck with getting to the port or getting a refund.
wrong, you will only receive the 75 percent if your flight gets canceled or one of the few reasons listed.

So tired of people who are complaining about vacations, while others are riding a storm, spending money too for safety.
There was 5 deaths in this state, many without power and some without homes...
Would you rather be in a hurricane while on the ship???
No SAFETY IS #1
Then why are you on here when you have nothing to do with cruising this weekend? I didn't see you asking why people are going on a cruise when My coast go hit with Hermine a couple weeks ago. No one is complaining about carnival watching out for our safety just would like the option to cancel without penalty in this state of emergency. Some have saved long for this cruise and would not like to lose their investment. They gave other cruises the option.

You must be the "peanutbutter" xx nutty. Please excuse Carnival, the ports, airlines for making safety #1 including you...
We here who went through the storm did not have fun. It was not a field trip
At least when you get home ... your house will still be there.
and now for the juvenile personal attacks:confused:

You just made the case for why Carnival should allow people to cancel without penalty. It's just insane and fool hardy for Carnival to expect people to take planes, trains and automobiles to head into the abyss for one of their damn cruises. Just let them cancel and refund their money without question. There will be another day to cruise. This is not it. They need to do the right thing. Greedy. Greedy.
I agree, during a big event like this where travel is restricted and the possible upcoming cruise being impacted with bad weather most dont want to pay thousands just to be seasick. It would be a better thing to just reroute to Cozumel. Bahamas just got the crap kicked out of it and should give them a week off to clean up and gather their lives as well. Im driving up from Tampa hopefully tomorrow if the cruise is still on and I dont know how its going to be, traffic, road closures ect. If I cant get to the port why shouldn't I be refunded? I know its not Carnivals fault but they can write off a loss I cannot and yes I have the insurance but I dont think I should have to fight them for it

Do some not realize that cruise ships do not operate in a vacuum? If a port was closed, and people were encouraged to evacuate, and power is out, and airports closed, and warehouses are closed, and trucks aren't running...how is a cruise ship to get restocked, who will man the terminal (and maybe without power), who will man the parking garages, are stevedores available?
A cruiseline needs to keep all the plates spinning to get their ships into and out of port. Any one break in the supply chain can have devastating affects.
If I were scheduled to cruise from Canaveral this weekend I would have just decided to throw in the towel as soon as millions of people were evacuated from the coast. Carnival, and most other cruiselines, will definitely either refund the cruise fare or apply the fare to another sailing.
If people are out money for hotels, and airfares, etc. that isn't Carnival's fault. Insurance would have covered that.
This myopic view that seems to be prevalent on Cruise Critic by some just blows my mind. What ever happened to plain common sense?
FYI- until Carnival cancels the cruise with or without insurance you lose all your money you have wrapped up into this cruise. Maybe you dont care about losing thousands of dollars but alot of us have worked hard to save money for this and either would like it to happen or get a refund. Carnival will resume I think and it may be delayed and it may not but Carnival is waiting until the last minute like yesterday to cancel after thousands already arrived not their fault but they can write off losses passengers cannot. A storm hit, its over now clean up and carry on back to business as usual we just went thru a hurricane on the west coast as well

Carnival needs to cancel the cruise which they should have done days ago. They have brought more people into a dangerous area due to their incompetence. People who are here or trying to get here need to make other arrangements. Step up Carnival!
I agree except for the incompetence part they are a business they stand to lose millions

No one is going to be cruising, are you even watching the news? FL is under a forced evac stations are shut down, even up the coast SC is shutting gas stations down at 12:30 today and starting evacuations. This is not a simple storm, this is a killer storm. The Bahamas are going through the worst of it right now. How can you even consider taking a cruise to anywhere in that area right now.
Take the refund when it's offered and it will be offered because you are not going anywhere and make alternate plans.
To those in the Bahamas and the path of the storm please stay safe and know many of us are thinking of you and hoping for the best for you and your families. ((HUGS))
Well, its not offered yet if it ever is I will most likely take it but Im not about to lose that much money. I know people will be losing their homes and possibly lives and I feel for them. I agree with the issue they cancel it I dont see how its going to be an easy thing to do getting access to the port only to go on a ship and be stuck in your cabin due to high seas

That's my concern too. Our flight to MCO for tomorrow has been cancelled, the only other flight we could get for Saturday arrives at 9:25 PM. Booked our hotel through Expedia for Friday night, non-refundable. Am wondering if the shuttle originally booked on Friday will be available that late Saturday. Will the port be damaged? Will roads be passable?
Have been packed and ready to go for days...The un-known is killing me and I feel guilty for being so selfish as so many people are being affected by this monster storm. Let's all pray for the best, for all involved.
I feel the same I kinda wish they would just cancel and refund and go during a "normal" time. People will lose homes and we are going on a cruise.

Leaving on the Valor sat, as of right now no changes to itinerary my concern is getting to the ship after a major hurricane driving from Tampa bay, Im guessing I need to leave early
-
ever seen the Poseidon adventure?
-
only issue I see is My ship the Valor leaving sat there have been no changes as of yet, Im not really looking forward to a puke fest but I didnt get an option to cancel I bought the vacation protection but I dont think that even gets a full refund, Im just curious how big the seas are after the storm I would imagine well be rocking and people will be barfing all over the place
-
I have family going with me on this cruise flying down to Tampa where I live if they cant get here they will be left behind talk about timing
-
we are also on the Valor on the 8th and we live in St Petersburg. Im guessing that we will be rerouted to Mexico/Key West or something as I would think the bahamas ports will be closed for a couple days. Im guessing there will be a sort of delay though maybe cut a day short
-
Not to be to dramatic, but I urge those travelling to the Caribbean on any of the boats to rethink your decisions. My brother Bill was being me this will be the deadliest hurricane since Katrina. It is so big and destructive, they are looking at catagorying it at a Cat 6. Would be a first. Please, if you decide to go against my advice, make sure you have your life vests with you at all times!
Really?, it was a 5 now a 4 so who said 6? Lol
-
Marquesas? That's in French Polynesia. Looong way from Cuba... EM
its an island(s)20 miles off key west

Currently, it looks like our itinerary will have to change. I'm curious where we could possibly re-route to. Hmmm...
says on youre signature you are going on 10/16? I think storm wil be long gone by then, I dont think you have to worry about anything. Mine on the other hand...
-
I live kinda local to port canaveral but this vacation was planned a year ago and alot has went into it, family coming down to join us as well. I know it would be a last resort to cancel but I would still be totally let down
-
I'm worried as well I am hoping that the storm will have already passed for mine to the bahamas, I know CCL will not put anyone in harms way but last cruise we were on the tail end and was a bit rocky. Pool was a little dangerous lol

Ill be on the aft balcony on the Valor in a short while, my first aft balcony! any tips? Hammok?

Can you show the email to the porter? Does the manifest show FTTF status?
Sent from my iPad using Forums
No, its not on their cruise details/summary or tags, they called Carnival and they just told them to bring the email
-
There's no limit to luggage, though they do ask that you keep it to 2 bags per person. Many throw that recommendation out the window and bring their whole wardrobe. The luggage has to be handled and they do have FTTF already so I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing. Now if they didn't have FTTF and you were trying to scam the system by getting the bags quicker I would have an issue with it.
I don't see why Carnival can't jut fix it in their system though so they can reprint the proper tags. No reason they should have to start their vacation at guest services.
I agree Carnival told them to just bring the email and Im sure it will work when you get your room key but the luggage will fail which in my opinion is a biggie for FTTF
I will Stop Cruising if....
