  1. From the New York Times Travel Section this coming Sunday morning, they will have this headline: "36 Hours in Hong Kong" with these highlights: "As impressive as Hong Kong’s skyline is, the city never seems to stop building. With all this attention on infrastructure, though, Hong Kong hasn’t sacrificed its soul. It remains one of Asia’s most passionately creative cities, a playground for artists and designers, chefs and entrepreneurs. Kowloon, the congested district opposite Hong Kong Island, for instance, is getting a makeover as the sprawling West Kowloon Cultural District begins opening over the next few years. While other newly rich Chinese cities vie for tourist dollars, it is cultural endeavors like this that will keep Hong Kong in the spotlight — and as confident as ever."

We have not yet visited SE Asia and we are starting to plan for a trip that includes Hong Kong, Vietnam, Angkor Wat and Singapore. Starting to read more and research on Hong Kong. Saw this major story coming in Sunday's NY Times. Thought that I would share it here and get added reactions, suggestions from those who have been here and in this region. Share here your best ideas, secrets, suggestions, etc.!!

Among the other story details are: "Odd as it may seem, this skyscraper-studded city is a hiker’s paradise. One of the most accessible hikes to the bustling city center is the Dragon’s Back. When it comes to shopping, Hong Kong is known for its electronics and luxury goods. Now, you can add good design to that list." There are lots of suggestions for various dining, entertainment, drinking options, etc.

Thank you so much for posting this link!! I'm headed there next month and this is great info. HAL SE Discovery - Oct 27, 2016. HKG to SIN

Appreciate Ine's follow-up suggestion and mention on Celebrity's sailing options in Southeast Asia. YES, we are aware of that cruise line and have done two different cruises with them on their Solstice ship. Both worked well, including for Sydney to Auckland, plus in the Med as detailed below with my live/blog.

Our friend from Georgia's scenic coast, 4774Papa, provides some excellent details and wonderful options to consider for both Hong Kong and Singapore. Very helpful and beneficial sharing. Keep it up!! Let us know your loves and success stories from being in these two famed cities and their nearby areas.

For our future SE Asia potentials, we are probably focused on one of these two options:

A: Use of one of three or four luxury or major cruise line options, Hong Kong to Singapore (or in reverse order), to have key stops in Vietnam, etc., plus an excursion that reaches Angkor Wat, etc.

B: Doing a stop enroute for either Hong Kong and/or Singapore, but using a river cruise to explore more in-depth for internal parts of Cambodia and Vietnam, including Angkor Wat, etc.

Added reactions, thoughts, experiences, suggestions, etc.?? Am getting the colorful and graphic DK travel books from our local library that will provide me more details on Cambodia and Vietnam to help us in researching these many options.

    THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio
