  1. I don't know about the US' date=' but Canadian elementary and secondary school breaks are usually in March. The universities often have a week off in February.

That being said, many Canadians take their kids out of school to travel in the winter.

Thanks for the help couldn't find a Canadian school schedule. Hopefullt theyll be a good mix

Do Canadians not get a fine for taking kids out of school?

  2. We're sailing on the 2nd of February on the breakaway for a fortnight. Anyone have any idea how many kids might be on board. Here in the UK it will be in term time so I doubt anyone with school age kids will be flying over with us. But not sure about Canada or US??

Just curious really as I will have a nursery age daughter with us (4) and it would be nice to have children her age on board

    Thanks!! 😊

  3. Well no I wouldn't have suggested forcing staff to help either with the pool filling lol despite what they said on the phone. That isn't what I meant, just to clarify :D

I just meant it would be worth calling incase the answer was a definite "no you absolutely cannot have a pool". But I doubt the answer would be a no anyway.

    Mia, that picture is adorable.

  4. Now, I will have to check out Burgeaux next month when we are there. My memory was that it was similar to Plum (to which we have been much more often and frequently) in terms of the rocks along the edge of the water for a lot of the beach.

Let us know how you found it.

From the pictures I've seen it does look nice, but looks like there are quite a lot of rocks at the waters edge. Don't think it would be worth me trying to take my four year old in and out

  5. I saw a post exactly like this from a while back and the poster phoned NCL and they told her it was okay to do. Granted it's a few year old but Her post says "they even told me the crew would be happy to assist in filling it"

So I'd phone them and check and then go for a baby pool. It would be worth asking them on the phone how best to fill it too, they might tell you the same, that crew could help. or advise you the best way.

And It certainly wouldn't bother me if someone had a baby pool on deck for their baby or toddler.

  6. Not large slabs of rocks but ankle twister sized rocks need to be crossed to swim at Boudreaux Bay. I have only been there a few times and all within the last few years. I have also been on many boat tours that passed this beach and have never seen anyone swimming there. On the other hand, I think that Plum Bay is a lovely beach. I have never had an issue getting in the water at Plum Bay and usually visit it at least once while on each vacation.

Hmm no I think I'll skip it now that you've replied lol. I can see the disaster already with a four year old in tow. 🙈

I'll check out plum bay . Thanks 😁

  7. I don't remember any problem entering the water or with the beach at Plum, but Baie Rouge has some impressive rocks to navigate for entry.

I've only been to Burgeaux once, to visit a place a friend has there. Wasn't impressed with the beach, but it had a great view.

Her place was farther down the beach from this, and it wasn't windy the day I was there, but here's a video I found on YouTube.

Thanks Gary. Yeah it was the view and photo ops I was really after the beach for. Plus somewhere quiter after the mayhem of Maho, it seems like we'll be there at the busiest time.

  8. If secondhand smoke was contained in the smoking areas, you'd have a point. The fact that secondhand smoke travels to other areas (which are non-smoking) is a problem.

Right this is exactly my take. I'm asthmatic and I'm all for smokers having a place to enjoy their cruise too. But it does travel. Like on the breakaway. I'd definitely take a non smoking cruise, save myself the hassle and keep everyone happy

  9. i was in angled 13290 in december with a full cabin. the 2 kids loved going out even in the colder weather. and my friend was a night owl and out there 2 am cause she couldnt sleep most nights. all enjoyed that extra space.

from perspective of being with kids that were not going to the kids clubs, we had a hard time finding stuff for them to do on the bad weather days. on great days they had tons of fun outside. A+ rating for fun factor on BA. ive never been on more than 7 nites and dont know if i could deal with 14 on any ship, but id like to try.

to me the ship didnt seem so big after a few days and on my 2nd trip it didnt seem big at all. maybe because i knew my way around!

Thanks for the info Im excited for the angled balcony lol 13870.

Hopefully it's not too long for me. My daughter will be in Splash Academy fingers crossed. She'll be 4.

  10. Wow thanks for this thread. We're taking a 14 night cruise in Feb. Was getting seriously worried about the reviews coming in. I'm definitely one to take negative reviews on here with a pinch of salt, but honest to goodness there seemed so many!

However the most positive reviews I've seen seem to be in the haven.

Has anyone taken a long cruise NOT in the haven and liked it? We just have an angled balcony cabin for the fortnight

  11. Cruised on the Breakaway last week and ran to get a Vibe pass - first one there! I paid my $99 and got my access.

I probably spent a total of about two hours there. It was so cold and windy on the first two and last 1.5 days! One of the bartenders told me that in the winter months, they never sell out of passes.

I imagine a very different situation in the summer months to Bermuda!

I'm hoping thats the case when we do a 14night in February. The first and last days would be pointless sailing to and from NYc.

My oh and I are currently debating if the price is worth it to use the passes for the few hours when our 4 year old will be in Splash Academy.

I'm not sure yet  It does look amazing though, compared the the main pool area

  12. Last post on this thread.

You can absolutely legally get married at sea. Norwegian have already told me that. And I've just phoned them to clarify. I can get married, legally,by the captain, on the fourth, weather permitting. Or as long as nobody else had booked the date. They have a "harbourside" and " destination" options. Both of which wouldn't be legal technically. And a cheaper symbolic ceremony, not legal either. BUT the "wedding at sea" package certainly is legal.

Honestly nevermind guys. I was only after opinions on what the weather might be like on that particular time I'm planning to get married at the part of the trip. I'm not here to debate if its possible to be married legally or not. I know it is.

The only thing stopping me is if people were to tell me the majority of their experience in Feb was that the seas or weather were still rough etc a day before San Juan. Then id think it wasn't worth the risk

But that said thanks so much to anyone who gave me their opinion on the weather situation or gave me a link with info 👍👍👍

  13. Power to perform weddings granted by the government under whose flag NCL ships sail is hardly the same as paying some self-declared "church" that exists only on the internet to become a phony minister, although some US states (no not all states) actually even allow that. Since the OP is from Scotland I have no idea of the specifics of the applicable law there, but a general rule of thumb is that a marriage legal in one country, and this marriage would be legal under the laws of the Bahamas, should be recognized by another country.

A number of cruise lines have flagged ships in countries granting the captain the legal right to perform marriages. For example Celebrity reflagged its ships in Malta, and Cunard reflagged in Bermuda, at least partially to allow their captains to legally perform weddings at sea.

Thanks njhorseman I completely agree. It's definitely a legal ceremony. They do have the option for a symbolic cheaper ceremony too. Maybe that's what everyone else means I dont know 😊

  14. Hey everyone :)

I'm going away on the breakaway out of New York in Feb 2018. We would sail out of NYC on friday the 2nd and my idea is to get married on sunday the 4th, the day before we would stop at san Juan.

Currently waiting on ncl getting back to me officially about getting married on that date. I'm wondering how you guys, who know more than me,would feel about that day (day before reaching san Juan). Would it still be likely to be rough or unsuitable? Or would the weather be picking up being closer to the caribbean. I know nobody can predict the weather but any rough ideas or experience of how the weather/seas can be would be extremely helpful and id be so grateful.

    Thanks
