  1. We really enjoyed being in a full suite when we traveled to Alaska with our child. He was only 1, so significantly younger than yours, but it was nice to be able to pull the curtain closed during nap time that separated the living from sleeping areas.

We only took him to club class dining once when we were docked at port so it wasn't very crowded. Although it was a fun experience for us adults, the meal ran a little longer than in the regular dining room and it was so quiet and peaceful that we felt a little stressed trying to make sure the toddler behaved. He was great, but we preferred to just eat in the regular dining room where there was more background noise. A four year old would probably be fine assuming he/she is used to eating out in restaurants.

We were also able to order food from the main dining room to eat in our suite. This was great when we knew our child needed a nap, but excursions had caused a delay in his schedule. We got delicious food delivered to us, and our child got the sleep.

If you can pull it off, I think it is definitely worth it. The extra amenities made traveling with a child so much easier and made our vacation relaxing.

  2. Our 1 year old enjoyed dancing and toddling around on the dance floor in the lounge before morning trivia. The colored lights flashing around on the floor, music, and handful of other little ones made for a good time. Then he would sit with us and have a snack while we played trivia. It was a fun daily activity and got out some energy.

He mostly just did whatever we did, or we took turns watching him in the room/balcony between the grandparents and parents if the activity wasn't baby appropriate. It was a great vacation!

  3. My husband and I did this on our honeymoon and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We made many stops on the way down the mountain and had plenty of time to explore. Neither of us had been on a bike in at least 10 years, but we didn't have an issue remembering the basics. I was 30 at the time.

Even though it was a lot of fun, there were some truly scary moments. Those huge tour busses roaring behind you on a steep hill scared me enough that I might not do it again...especially that we now have children and we wouldn't want to leave them parentless. There are also stretches where you are riding on the street with no shoulder. Most cars were considerate and gave us our space, but some came too close. I would say that if your wife is hesitant, this is probably not the trip for her!

  4. Just got back from a cruise with our 13 month old. It was great!

Finding food on the ship was easy. Anyone and everyone was more then happy to get us what we needed. We used a lot of room service for breakfast just to keep things quick and ate every night in the main dining room. We brought his straw sippy cups and he drank whole milk or water with every meal.

The hardest thing for us was the naps. We got a room with a balcony so we could sit outside while baby was sleeping. That part was awesome. We always put in the Do Not Disturb sign for nap time, but that sometimes backfired. When someone needed our attention and the sign was in the door, they would call on the phone so we would let them in. So we started unplugging the phone too!

Bring a small wash basin and dish soap to wash the bottles/cups every night. That wasn't particularly fun, but it quickly just turned into our nightly routine.

You aren't crazy at all! It was the best vacation for us!

  5. On Emerald Princess they were extremely accommodating for our toddler. They would get us juice or milk in the dining room anytime, free of charge, of course. But at the buffet, the person "guarding" the entry would get us milk during non-breakfast hours and even on the last day when all the restaurants were closed and it was time to get off the ship, the international cafe happily gave us a glass of milk for the baby.

We never saw any lids for cups though. We brought plenty of sippy cups and washed them in our room every night.

  6. The MDR was open for embarkation lunch. I enjoyed the vast majority of our food. In my opinion, far better than anything we ever had on royal Caribbean or carnival. I ate my weight in desserts!

Shelly Gil/Gill was the naturalist...I believe. Didn't save the Patters so going off memory.

This was my first time to Alaska, so I can't really compare glacier touring, but we enjoyed our trip up Endicott Arm. We spent a long time viewing the glacier and I felt like we got pretty close for a cruise ship. Not much wildlife to be seen, but the scenery was beautiful.

Sorry I wasn't more helpful, but this can get you started!
