  1. I have had thyroid symptoms for 10 years since the birth f my daughter. I was misdiagnosed for years until a new doctor finally figured out I was severely Hypo about 3 years ago. I am currently seeing an endocrinologist to determine whether my thyroid issues may be Hashimoto's.

     

    Let me just say, a severely underactive thyroid absolutely does cause weight gain. I was eating 12-1400 calories a day and still gaining 4-5 lbs each month until I was at 350 lbs. (btw, I am 5'11", not a small woman, so that is a very low calorie count). Worse than the weight gain is the constant, severe fatigue, achy muscles, thinning hair, and the absolutely awful brain fog.

     

    I have recently been prescribed Armour Thyroid as levothyroxine did nothing for me. Even with my dose maxed out, my TSH levels were at 11-13 each time. I am finally starting to feel some progress, but not by medicine alone.

     

    The first 2 months on the new med, my levels were still way off, so I did some research and started a Paleo diet. I started out with the whole 30 which is an ultra strict version and I lost 17 lbs in one month. all total, in just under 3 months, I have lost nearly 30 lbs. many others suffering from thyroid conditions have seen results as well, so it may be worth a try for you.

     

    Please don't let anyone tell you that this is an excuse, and an invalid one at that. Hypothyroidism is a serious medical condition known to have life changing symptoms. A treatment which works for one person, may hve zero effect for someone else, and while positive thinking is nice, this disease is not just in your head, and therefore a sunny disposition and daily walks will not cure you of what is ailing you!   2. My husband and I are taking our 10 year old daughter on anthem of the seas in July 2017 for our first cruise. my biggest concern is the food. My daughter was diagnosed a few years ago with Celiac disease, and must avoid gluten or she becomes very ill for days. My daughter is a very adventurous eater and likes to try new things, but I am concerned whether she will have decent choices. I know I have read that I can call and speak to someone, and I will, but I am hoping someone here can maybe give me a clearer idea of how accommodating the kitchens onboard are. Can they provide a gluten free toast or bagel if not, can I bring my own? will chefs work to make safe dishes, or will she be stuck with a plain chicken breast and baked potato or something similar I appreciate any feedback from anyone who has dealt with this themselves, Thank you!

  3. My daughter used to love eggs benedict when she was younger, but then she was diagnosed with Celiac, and had to give up the English muffins. Now I make her own version once in a while. First is either a few pieces roasted asparagus or some sautéed spinach with garlic, next some thin slices of fresh salmon or lox, put a poached egg on top and drizzle copious amounts of hollandaise on top. I wonder if RCI would make something similar for her. anyone know how well they handle custom requests?

  4. Hi all, I am looking to book my family's first real vacation (other than a long weekend to the city, we haven't really gone anywhere together yet), and we are really excited to cruise. DH, DD (10), and I have decided we want to cruise on RCI's Anthem of the Seas leaving Bayonne in July 2017. my first thought was to just go onto RCI's website and book the cruise through them, but I have noticed several posts mentioning travel agents. is this a better way to go? I assume travel agents charge a fee, so isn't this more expensive? Are there perks to using a TA as opposed to booking direct with RCI? I have never really travelled, and have no idea how this all works. I appreciate any help you can offer!:)

  5. Thanks for the info! one more question (for now, i'm sure there will be 10,000 more by the time June rolls around!) My daughter has celiac disease and therefore must have a gluten free meal. I am assuming this probably means I am best off choosing a set dining at eiher 5:30 or 8 pm so I will have the same waiter who I can make aware of her needs. Is this the best way to go or are they pretty good at keeping track and avoiding problems?

  6. I will be taking my first cruise ever next summer along with my husband and then 11 year old daughter. We are thinking of the anthem but I am confused on the dining situation.

     

    From everything I have read, most ships have an MDR, but it looks like Anthem doesn't, and rather has 4 or 5 smaller dining rooms. can someone please explain this to me? I'm not getting how it works.

     

    Secondly, my husband has a big appetite. I read somewhere that you can order multiple courses in the MDR, but that was a post about Carnival, does the same apply at RCI? Can my daughter get a shrimp cocktail and a salad, or two desserts? Can my husband get a chicken entrée and a pasta?
