  1. I dont really like the excursions listed by MSC for our itinerary

Has anyone done any active excursions that they would recommend? I saw on other sites biking tours but nothing that fun on MSC. Thanks!

    1 Civitavecchia, Italy

    2 Palermo, Italy

    3 Valletta, Malta

    4 AT SEA

    5 Barcelona,Spain

    6 Marseille, France

    7 Genoa, Italy

    8 Civitavecchia, Italy

  2. I wished i would've seen your report sooner since I have been trying to get this very important question answered...what is the gelato situation? is it included? if not, what is cost? also, coffee bar, is there an unlimited card for specialty coffees (non alcoholic)?

and thank, you for the great reporting!

  3. I broke my foot two weeks before my destination wedding in Mexico. I pre-arranged to have help at the airport, wheeled everywhere and taken through customs very quickly. At the resort it was difficult the first day but once you get the idea of where escalators/elevators are it gets easier. Shoe balancer works great, or i used one sandal that had the same level platform. Bring pain meds and ice packs that you can crack and use as needed. There are excursion companies that specify in people with disabilities so maybe look into those?

    good luck!

  4. After much research and many phone calls to customer service (where incorrect information was given out) I think I have this figured out.

Cirque Du Soleil has two different shows -

VIAGGIO – a poetic adventure into the world of color; a painter’s journey into his imagination

SONOR - with sound at its heart, the show takes guests on an auditory adventure

Viaggio will run Monday, Tueday, Wednesday, Thursday is their day off and Sonor will run Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Unfortunately they're off the one day we're at sea.

    Each show runs twice a night, 18:45 (6:45pm) and 21:30 (9:30pm)

    You can book:

    Cocktail and show for $16.50/pp

Enjoy our exclusive signature cocktail, "Mediterranean Dream" s surprising freshness while watching the breathtaking Cirque du Soleil at Sea SONOR show (the cocktail is available with or without alcohol). The package includes the drink only and access to the theater is given thirty (30) minutes before show time.

    or

Dinner and show for $ 39.00/pp

Our exclusive table d hôte menu offers an eclectic selection of creative dishes that will be served one hour before the show, previous to the breathtaking Cirque du Soleil at Sea SONOR, which will call upon all your senses at once. The package includes food only. A three course menu will be offered with a choice of main course (meat, fish or vegetarian), the starter and dessert are fixed choices

I was able to call and reserve the date and time that we wanted so we don't have to deal with it when we get on board.

Hope this clears some things up for other cruisers!

  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Eton suits shorts? The original question was if a 4 year old could wear dressy shorts to the MDR. So are you saying that is ok? Because I know the dress code is pants for men.

Yes, I would say yes on dressy shorts and button down. But I haven't been on MSC yet, that is just my opinion.

  6. In my opinion, I think those between the ages of 9 and 90 should follow the dress code out of respect for other passengers. For toddlers, I think it makes no sense - you only spend money on clothes they will outgrow and they really aren't learning anything dressing up out of respect at that age. For those over 90 they have earned the right to wear whatever they want !!!

I have to respectfully disagree. My kids have been dressing up for special occasions since newborn. My son wore Eton suits with bow ties on his first cruise when he was one. You don't have to go all out and kids clothes doesn't have to break the bank. Lots of almost new clothes on sites like eBay too and it's nice to see everyone making an effort!

  7. THANK YOU for this reply! This is something that has bothered me more and more as people dress worse and worse. Not only on cruises but Broadway shows and upscale restaurants. I've always told my kids there's a time and place for everything; special occasions, such as formal night on cruise give us a chance to practice our fancy manners! lol

You want to wear cargo shorts and flips flops, please not on formal night...

I think you will find that you need to dress for dinner on the Meraviglia.

On the Divina, the European, Asian and South American guests were dressed to the nines (either long formal or short semi-formal dresses for the women, tuxes and suits for the men), many of USA and Canadian passengers were also dressed up. Girls had on party dresses and boys had suits. Then there were the Carnival and "Freeslob" cruisers....

As the Meraviglia is sailing in Europe, the passengers most likely will be dressed formally on formal nights and will, at minimum, be country club casual or more on casual nights.

  8. Yes you can start your cruise from any port along the itinerary, I don't know why you would be worried about this, it's been going on for years.

Worried about a new ship that won't have reviews until its first sailing? It's new! That's the exciting bit, its new! You book a sailing with concerns? I don't get it.

I'm on the 4th sailing and I don't care to much about reviews, I want to explore and take in all that the Meraviglia has to offer and make my OWN mind up and enjoy a brand new ship. Do some research and yes the final fit out will be a closely guarded secret until its christening in June. It's a new ship! I don't want to know everything about it until I put my feet firmly on the deck and start my cruise.

    Try to enjoy your cruise.

The hesitation is trying a European cruise line but after reading everyone's comments, I am more sure of our decision to book. We don't get to take many vacations so when we finally plan something I stress to make sure it's as good as we can get!

I am very excited and can't wait to find all the secrets of this ship once onboard!

  9. Just did deposit for a November sailing our of Civitavecchia. Very excited to find the exact itinerary and dates we wanted but concerned that it is a new ship and we won't have any reviews until after her first sailing in June.

Has anyone found more info on it other than the draft drawings available online?

Also, this is new to me since we've never done a European cruise but they said that people can start in Barcelona or Marseille; seems like every day we will have new guests coming and going...like a local bus??
