  1. I think you might be missing some of this somehow on Princess. We get canapes every formal night (you do need to fill out the form the day before indicating which ones you want). We always have robes and have asked for slippers.

You might get these things in the Club Class Mini Suite. I could be wrong, but my understanding is the OP was asking about a Mini Suite, not Club Class.

  2. I have an allergy to cashews and mango. I told them on this particular ship and they made a big deal out of it, wanting me to choose my dinners a day in advance. All I wanted to do was be certain I was avoiding these two things. I did not require any special handling of my situation. For me, I felt it was more trouble than it was worth. Especially since the headwaiter and the MD did not seem to understand what a cashew was.

I think you can be certain they will take all the necessary steps to accommodate you.

  3. Does anyone have any recent experience with writing in items you would like delivered to your room on the card that hangs on the door? Eggs Benedict? Smoked salmon? Bacon?

We wrote in things in an inside (!!!) and got them on the Royal in March.

  4. There is a simple solution to this...

It's called 'being willing to share a table with others'. Sure it can be a craps shoot - the group one might be paired with, but that's part of the enjoyment of cruising -- Meeting fellow passengers with the benefit of also being able to engage in interesting dinner conversation beyond: "Where are you from?" and "How many and where have you cruised before?".

We've never had to wait more than a minute when willing to dine with others, and have never had a qualm with feeling disrespectful in wanting to skip the dessert course to leave early to catch a show.

This has always held true when my husband and I sail together. But earlier this month my daughters and I were on the Royal and it was a whole different ball of wax. Was it because we had an 18 month old and they were worried about seating us with other people? Or because we were a party of four? I'm not sure, but each time we said we'd take first available and the whole ten day cruise we never got a table with other diners. We had many long waits for dinner. Twice our beeper did not work and after waiting 50 minutes the second time I went to inquire and they said they were having issues with the beepers. We had stayed in the Piazza the whole time.

Maybe people with issues being seated are in groups larger than two?

  5. We got a sail and play offer - going on a ten day cruise on Royal for $199 pp inside. I grabbed it because when else are we going to sail on Royal for ten days for $199? To get on the naughty list we gambled $100 each and then they gave us $100 each near the end of the cruise because the television wasn't working right one of the previous nights. We decided to go play with it at the roulette table again. We ended up walking out a little ahead. So we 'donated' about $10 total to get the great offer. I have no idea how we got so lucky this time. We usually gamble a little bit. That time we spend way more onboard than we ever have on other things, though.

  6. Avoid connecting cabins on the Regal, Royal and Majestic. There is no sound proofing. You can hear everytime your neighbour goes to the toilet. Not to mention their conversations. Will never book a connecting cabin again. We were in A509 on the Regal. And yes the connecting door is in line with the walk in wardrobe / bathroom entry.

We were in a connecting cabin for ten days on the Regal in October. (A206) We heard our neighbors talking a couple of times, not much issue there at all.

My biggest issue was hearing everyone slam doors so much. It wasn't a big deal but I did wonder why so many slammed doors.

  7. We did lose the service on our TV all day Thursday and up till 3pm Friday. We heard others saying they lost TV from late Wednesday until Saturday. We received 100 per person OBR and should be receiving our check 4-6 weeks after the cruise. We were in a regular balcony stateroom (not a deluxe balcony stateroom). I'm guessing those in a mini suite or regular suite probably got more since they paid more for their staterooms or suites. That's the only thing that went wrong on the cruise and it didn't affect our great time and wonderful cruise!

We were in a mini-suite and got $100 pp because of the television issue. Maybe the people who got the higher amounts had a longer outage?

  8. Oh boy. Here we go. Off to another tangent with responses of body shaming and it is my thyroid.

I think it's awful of you to say this about a junked thyroid. If it happened to you I bet you'd be embarrassed. I know I am.

I weighed 115 pounds until, in my 40's, my thyroid just quit. Four months earlier at my yearly physical it was just fine. I couldn't figure out why I had gained 30+ pounds in that time. Different eating? No. Difference in activity level? No. No bad habits like drink/drugs/smoking. The doctor tested my thyroid and it was no longer doing its job.

Thank you for adding more shame to my already embarrassing situation.

I used to drink soft drinks. It was my one vice, if you consider it one. I stopped that, too.

  9. Actually, I considered that. But I only pay for two devices and my mom’s iPad is one of them. Would hate to cut her off from her beloved When Calls the Heart.

I am hoping I can download more from outside the country.

With family in Venezuela I can tell you there can be restrictions on using Netflix at all. I'm not sure how to find out where it is restricted and where else it can be used. Canada seems to be no problem.

  10. Do you recall how long you were able to view the videos? I’ve read just 24 hours, but am hoping that’s not correct.

I can tell you from personal experience the downloads take about a minute so you could download things from ports easily, too. I had things stick around a couple of weeks. It varies, though. . .

    From Netflix FAQ:

The amount of time depends on individual licenses, and can vary by title. Titles that are expiring from your device in less than 7 days will display the amount of time you have left on the My Downloads page of the Netflix app. Some titles will expire 48 hours after you first press play.

  11. Yes, your travel agent is fully to blame for this one. Unless you want to blame yourself, that is. She had all your information and had the cabin, why didn't she spend the minute or two to put the sale through? I know it doesn't take long to secure the sale, because I do it myself on princess.com.

Blaming Princess for this isn't quite logical, since it was her failure to place the booking that lost you the price. Whenever you see a great deal complete the checkout process as fast as you can! Whether a cruise or anything else.

  12. I’m not sure I could stand the total euphoria. Streaming Netflix on a cruise ship? Maybe too much of a good thing is too much, but I’d love to see for myself.

I know it's not the same as streaming, but Netflix allows you to download things to your device and watch later, when not connected. I used it during our last cruise.

  13. If someone with CC doesn't plan to use it because they have TD then the Maitre D would know that this CC diner has TD. There is a point of view that since a CC paid for the seat that it be held in case they want it. If I buy tickets to season event I am entitled to use or not use the ticket. If I show up late and don't have the seat I paid for the management will have trouble. Same with CC, how do you determine if it's ok to give that table to someone else unless the passenger who paid for that table says it's ok to give it to someone else. It's a conundrum.

At a sporting event you can't just show up and take any seat which happens to be empty at the time. And holding your season pass holds you that seat you bought - if you were to sit elsewhere you would have to pay for that seat as well. You are right, though, they would still be maintaining your seat in the CC area unless you told them you would not be using it.

To answer an earlier poster, everything I have read indicates the CC area can be enlarged or condensed.

  14. The only issue we had was tendering back to the ship from the Princess private island. The line was long and once we finally tendered back we sat bobbing next to the side of the ship for over thirty minutes. I'm not sure why this happened. Having said that, I've read other people saying when they bring supplies back to the ship they make the passengers wait while they load those tenders. I suppose if one or more of those made it back faster than a tender full of passengers we could have waited while they unloaded them as well.

    Otherwise it's been easy sailing.

  15. I received a TA invoice by mistake and was shocked at how little my TA got for my booking. By the time all the non-chargeable items were subtracted from the booking, the percentage commission was so low that the stories of OBC given to clients by TA is impossible.

What you aren't taking into account is this: You got the TA invoice for your personal cruise. Usually in sales there's a big incentive to sell so much per week/month/quarter/year - and what you didn't see are all the bonuses done on totals.

Sales work this way. Lots of incentives throughout the weeks/months/quarters/year which can change what the real income is.
