  1.  Crystal sympathy cruise from Sydney to Cairns departing Sydney on 8 April

Friday the 13th  mised 7 am call at Harvey Island to drop off passengers for an excursion to the reef  due high winds

Sunday 15  arrival in Cairns delayed my four hours to noon once again due to high winds.

The captain was concerned that the ship would drift out of the narrow passage.  He  entered the channel on the fifth attempt

Monday the call at Port Douglas was cancelled again due to high winds.

The ship spent an extra day in Cairns

The Crystal Symphony is a classic cruise ship with excellent service and food.

  2. I have read your post on missing ports on the world cruise.

We were on last years world cruise from Sydney to Shanghai a 21 day segment.

We missed three ports. The first one was Cairns we were supposed to anchor and tender. We did anchor Immigration officials boarded the ship and processed our passports we did not tender. No explanation was given.

We were supposed to go to BruneiThe stop was cancelled they had not dredged the harbour!!!!.

The next port that was cancelled was Taiwan. We had an extra day at sea on the way to Hong Kong.

As you have pointed out this is very poor planning by Cunard.

There were only 200 people doing the full world cruise

It was very much a segmental trip with a large number of passengers constantly getting on and off.

Food in the Brittanica dining room was poor with poor selection.

The entertainment was poor with the exception of the special lecturers. The cruise director was seldom seen.

I am not surprised that a number of people wanted to leave the ship

    Very poor organisation by Cunard.

  3. I booked a Guarentee Agua Class Cabin in Australia with Celebrity allocated a Cabin under the treadmills. They have flatly refused to change the cabin unless I paid for an upgrade. They maintain that the cabin is not subject to excessive noise. This is despite reviews in Cruise Critic complaining of noise from above in these cabins. They have also refused to speak to me as I booked through a travel, agent.

    Where do I go?

  4. We were on the ship in early August. They were overwhelming Sewerage smells all over the ship and in a cabin. This is obviously a health hazard as indicates leaking Sewerage. Ship should be taken out of service until it is corrected it seems to be going on and on p&o have done an excellent job in refurbishing the ipublic rooms and the rest of the cruise was good. Why do they have to send all the 20 year old boat to Australia we deserve better

  5. Yes the ship was full and crowded. 3600 passengers on board !!!

Particually the pools, the horizon court and plaza were crowded

There was no effort made to stop the children diving or bombing into the pools. However apart from this they were pretty well-behaved .

It was possible to find quite spots such as the spa pool when it was open and the aft terace pool.

The food on the whole was good, especially the crown grill.

The six course dinner in the share was average and I don't think I would go back again. No trouble in getting a table in any time dinning.

The entertainment was excellent particularly the magic show and the voice at sea

The entertainment director was very energetic seen all around the ship and also will put together a good wake show.

There were problems with tendering at Champagne Bay By ten o'clock there were 500 people waiting and a two hour wait to tender.

There were six tender boats in operation however only one jetty

If they are going to continue to send large ships to Champagne Bay they need to build a another jetty

On the whole I'm very enjoyable cruise

    Princess has a good product.

Here is the original itinerary taking for my ticket

Cairnes was scheduled from 9 to 1 to be a tender pork from Yorkers' Knob

On the cruise Personalizer it is now a sail by

I'm not sure what this means perhaps tthe locals could come out and sell souvenirs and trinkets

The only tours are now from Airlie Beach

  7. I received this from my travel agent

    Dear John

Please find attached update itinerary change from Cruise line.

with Bandar Seri Begawan port has been swap to Kota Kinabalu.

The Port Authorities in Bandar Seri Begawan have advised us that

we will be unable to call as they have unfortunately not been

able to complete port dredging work as planned. We have,

however, been able to swap it for a call at Kota Kinabalu. In

the northern part of the diverse island of Borneo, the city is

known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalk, beaches and

waterfront Kota Kinabalu City Mosque. Shore excursions in Borneo

will be available to book shortly via Voyage Personaliser. Also,

as a consequence of the political relationship between Taiwan

and China we are now unable to sail between the two countries

    and have

had to replace the call at Keelung for a sea day. We

are very sorry to make these changes but hope that you will

understand that we have had to take these late decisions. We

look forward to welcoming you on board.

In addition they have cancelled Caines which was supposed to be a tender port and replaced it with a sail by!!!

They should have been aware of the political situation between China and Taiwan it has not been changes for 50 years. Who organised this schedule? Incompetence.

Cairns was scheduled to be tender port from 8am to 1pm. If would be impossible to transfer the passengers to and from the port in such a short time. They should have extended the stay. No reason was given.

Last year on the world cruise on the Pacific Princess we called at Brunei. The captain was nervous getting the 30000 ton Pacific Princess out through the channel No amount of dredging would fix the problem.

Cunard need to do their homework regarding the ports.

It is unreasonable to cancel three ports.

    No compensation has been offered.

  8. The terminal at the old airport is a disaster, worse than Darling Harbour. You have to walk for miles and miles. Very few taxis in the morning. Poor links to the train at distant shopping centres. Very poor shopping area on roof of the terminal. Poor sinage.

We were there last year on the PACIFIC PRINCESS. I note it is berthing at the Ocean Terminal this year right in the middle of town.

We are on the Queen Mary next year but going on to Shanghai.

    Looking forward to meting you.
