  1. Caricross16,

First welcome to the Cruise boards. You will find a wealth of information on all aspects of cruising and most people are wonderful to help with any questions or information.

You and your friend should have a wonderful first cruise....a word of caution....CRUISIING IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!

It would be hard for me to advise you on a cabin regarding an inside or an ocean view. As I stated, we always pick a certain balcony cabin. If it is not available, then we pick a different date that it is available.

I think maybe your personalty might help....are you one to be out and doing things on the ship and only in your cabin to sleep and change clothes or do you want to be away from others and enjoy your cabin and the beautiful views. For us there is only one answer...we are very private people and we are not real party people. Our cruise is just for the two of us to get away and be together, therefore the quiet balcony cabin is what works for us.

Maybe some of the others that have inside cabins can give you more information on those. As much as we love the Verandha deck, if it was a choice between and ocean or an inside, i beleive I would choose the ocean view.

I hope whatever you choose, you and your friend will have a wonderful time.

  2. Hi ladies,

Just wanted to let you know that I will be leaving the Fashion Thread...it's been so nice over the years, but I have so many other interest now that I am retired that I just don't get time or really have time to contribute anymore. I wish you all the best and many blessings. It's been fun.

  3. Drew's Wife, I have to say how happy I was to see you posting today. I will explain and hopefully not sound like a crazy stalker. When I first joined cc you gave my daughter and I some good information on dressing for our first cruise. After that we still got some good advice from you about other cruises and just enjoyed seeing pictures of your dresses, they were always so beautiful. Well, I hadn't been on here for a couple of years and when I did come back on the only post from you that I saw Drew was really sick and then your mother. Then I saw nothing from you again. I was hoping that nothing tragic had happened to any of your family members. So hopefully everyone is fine and waiting to see more pictures of your dresses and what you recommend to others.

That is so very kind of you. Drew is fine and I was to go and visit Momma for Mother's Day but she passed away April 25th...so she is no longer suffereing. When I arrived, I got off the plane, and fell so I spent the whole day in the ER. Turns out I broke a rib, a chipped elbow a concussion and a chipped tailbone. I have not been doin very much lately, just trying to re-cooperate. Drew seems to be doing just fine. They watch his kidney every three or four months and there seems to be no change, so that is good...that means no gwroth. We are very blessed. I just haven't been on to post much lately. Our last cruise was hoffific as we had Noro from the sexond day of the cruise, and well you know that...the rest was down hill! ;)

I will try to start posting more regularly...I have really missed all the wonderful ladies on this forum. Everyone have a blessed evening.

  4. Hi ladies!

First let me say that I have loved looking through the many pages in this thread and seeing all of these beautiful dresses and how positive everyone is! This is a dress I have from another event and I would love to wear it on an upcoming cruise to Alaska (RCCL) but I always hear that dress even on formal nights is far more casual. Part of me wants to wear it anyway and just have fun (luggage weight isn't an issue) but I have a lot of anxiety about standing out if I do. What are your thoughts? My man (who enjoys dressing up) wants to bring along a suit/tux.

The dress is stunning....by all means wear it...and your husband will look so handsome all dressed out in his tux. We dress formal every night...of course we may stand out some to others, but it's not about that...it's just that we loved dressing up for each other. Have fun...go all out.

  5. It's been awhile since we cruised Carnival...decided to try something new for a change...But I must say that we have always loved the Fantasy class ships and would only book a Verandha cabin. Could not do without a balcony, so never had an inside, but if you like convenience and quiet...this is the place to be. There are only about forty cabins on this deck and so about the only people that are there are the stewards and the people that have booked these cabins. Here is a link to a thread all about these cabins. It is a few years old but has lots of great information. Any questions that I can help with, I would be glad to.

  6. I wash my hands in my cabin or in the restroom directly before heading to the buffet or the dining room, and I don't use handrails when moving around the ship. I rarely use the hand sanitizer, but that doesn't mean that my hands are not clean.

Nothing beats hot soap and water and vigorous hand washing. I try not to touch anything. Still carry a Purell with me wherever I go. I bought a great item once...actually bought two...a snap on cover to use on shopping carts...only problem, I kept fogetting to take them off! :)

  7. Just FYI, Purell and Lysol wouldn't have helped. They kill bacteria, you most likely had a virus. I think those dispensers are along the lines of some TSA restrictions...they make us feel better about our safety, but don't actually do much.

So sorry about your illness wrecking your trip. How very disappointing. I hope you can get a redo soon.

Thank you so much. Getting better each day. I agree, it probably only makes us feel a bit more secure...The steward told us that he had a special cleanser...but it had a Lysol type smell to me....I just could never abide the smell of that stuff. I remember my Momma using it when we were children to mop the floors, and I could hardly wait to get outside till the smell went away! LOL

We did rebook, same cabin and are looking forward to trying it again.;)

  8. We just came back from a cruise this past week. (RCCL)..My sweet husband got sick the second day....(no drinking for either of us)...I thought it was something he ate because he likes to try the different dishes. (Not Me, I stick with plain food)...I felt sorry for him but thought it would soon end. Not so, within hours I was as sick as him. We knew right away that we had come down with some type of virus. I put a note on the door and told our Steward that I needed to talk with him. Explained that we were both violently ill and he said not to worry. He would take care of everything. So for the rest of the cruise, we were in our cabin with Sprite, ice and saltine crackers! Could not even keep any medicine down and we are still not over it. Thankfully we had a beautiful aft wrap balcony and could go out and get some fresh air, but could not get off at any of the ports. I have heard of people being sick with this virus, but I never knew I could be so ill. They had Purell dispensers all over the ship and I would always see people walk right on by and straight to the food! What makes people do that? :(To top it off, they would Lysol (smelled like it) twice a day and that smell made it even worse. It was an expensive box of Saltine crackers for sure! By all means, make sure you give them an extra hefty tip...our Steward was amazing and he sure deserved every extra dollar we gave him.

  9. It's early and I was just sitting here reading through this thread. Getting ready to go on a cruise this weekend so I have been picking gowns to pack and getting all of Drew's Tuxedo shirts ready, etc.

We do love dressing up for many occasions. Yes we are older, and Drew would not think of Sunday morning Church without a coat and tie, but even most of the older men now just wear shirt and no tie. (Florida). I love seeing him dressed up and I am proud to be seen with him.. One of the ladies leaving Church this past week, said to me "A woman that still wears heels, I love it".

It makes me feel good, when someone tell me how nice I look, and I really appreciate it, because I really try to look my best. But Drew and I dress to impress each other. That is very important to me, and I can't tell you how I feel when we are sitting in Church, or at a restaurant and he leans over and whispers that "You are the prettiest one here". Well I know that isn't always true as there are many lovely young ladies around, but if He thinks so, then that is what matter to me. And that ladies is another reason that I love him so much. :)

  10. We have been looking and asking about a military discount with CCL for several years now and have never gotten a discounted rate for military status.

It's not available on every cruise....if you go to the website, there will be a menu listing all the available rates, ES..Past guest, Etc. Usually the ES (Early Saver) and the Military rate are the same....however with the Military rate you are not subject to all the regulations that come with the ES.

Also, Call Carnival, they will walk you through it.

  11. Hi Ladies,

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday season and that you are ready for a Very merrry and Blessed Christmas.

I've been away so long as it seems I just don't have much time with work and all....but I wanted each of you ladies to know that I think about you often and how much I have always enjoyed our closeness on the fashion board.

I just came back from another trip to Nashville, and so glad to report that my little mother opened her eyes and smiled at me as soon as I walked into her room. She held my hand all afternoon, and wouldn't let go. The next two days, she didn't wake up while I was there, but at least I know that she knew I was there and just seeing her smile will be the most precious memory of her that I will cherish my entire life.

Thank you all for your prayers these many months.

Looking forward to our cruise next month and I did buy a new blue gown to wear one evening. I love that it is simple and has a rather old fashion look to it. As a matter of fact I like it so much that I ordered a red one for the Valentine ball this year. Just need to take it and have t hemmed a little. I bought it to wear with really high heels, but with the heel spurs right now, I will have to go with about a 2 inch inch heel :(.....you can't see them anyway, so I will just be an inch shorter! :)

Everyone please take care, if you are traveling in the near future, have a safe journey and a wonderful time. Merry Christmas and blessings to all of you dear ladies.

  12. Hi ladies,

Hope everyone has had a good week so far. I just had to share this with you ladies. I had a package arrive today..... Look at these shoes and purse! The colors are wonderful and I can wear them with so many different dresses. I love the purse because it is so small, yet roomy. I plan to wear them with a green suit to church this Sunday. A lovely lady on here saw these and emailed me...She said " I think these have your name on them" :) Thank you Joyce!:) She is such an amazing woman and such a dear friend.

  13. Fall in DC is pants & sweater weather . You will need a jacket for the evenings . October will be fall so think subdued colors , closed shoes & a leather jacket .

I think I will do the pants and sweater, although they will be put away for eons once we get home...but I haven't bought or worn a (Just linen jackets for Church) jacket or coat in almost 20 years! :)

  14. Thanks ladies...We have just always been there in the Summer, so I wore capris in the daytime and a dress when we went out to dinner in the evening.

I know there will be a cruise luncheon one day, and I will need a cocktail dress for the dinner/dance on Friday. The rest of the time will be spent sightseeing.

I figure I will just pack a lot of different things, long pants, capris, dresses, etc. That way I will be covered for the weather.

We have booked the same place that we stayed for our Honeymoon for the first few nights as we will arrive a few days before the actual reunion. Then we will go to stay at Andrews the rest of the time. I've always wanted to see Andrews since it has such a special meaning for Drew.

Thanks again for all your help. I knew I could count on you ladies.! :)

  15. Hi ladies,

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

    I have a question please?

Drew and I will be going to DC for his Air Force reunion the second week of October. Of course we have been to DC several times, but always in the Summer.

And it has been 35 years since Drew lived there.

I'm trying to determine if anyone is in the area, what the weather is typically like during that time, and just what kind of clothes I need to pack.

Remember I live pretty much in shorts, t shirts and sandals year round, so I may need to do some heavy duty shopping. :)

Any advice is welcome and thank you in advance. I know it's not cruise related by I also know that I can always count on you ladies.

    Have a good evening.

  16. Hi ladies,

Just wanted to pop in and say "hi". Hope everyone is doing well.

The blue gown arrived today and I must say I was really happy with the results. I was a little leary since I had not ordered from this site before. However the lady was so nice and answered all my questions right away.

The dress actually comes with a corset back, but I'm not into that so I asked if she would make the dress with a zipper back. No problem. I gave them my measurements, the color and told her I wanted a zipper.

I was a little afraid when it said "satin" that is would be shiny and slippery. Not in the least. It is heavy and has no shine at all. One thing, it is really more of a Ball Gown! I thought the picture just showed it flared out...but it is beautiful. So pretty that I'm sure this will be ordered in red for the Sweetheart Ball this year.

    Everyone have a wonderful evening.

  17. So happy to hear that your Mum is doing well, Sherrie. Will keep her in our prayers.

Love that dress ! Did you order it in that color? Beautiful, enjoy. :)

    Thanks Judy,

Yes I ordered the blue. I told Drew to pick the color and that was his first choice. If it turns out like I hope, I might order a red for Valentine's. ;)
