  1. Well if I could do both that would solve that problem....lol.

The only other cruise line I have had to make reservations on was RC and you could cancel and reschedule as needed on their website before the cruise.

I have to agree that RC has a more sophisticated website that allows you to do all your planning online. It also allows you to make reservations that include other guests. I am going on my first NCL cruise in November and I have found all the phone calls you need to make because you change your mind or you are trying to include fellow travelers a little frustrating. First world problems.

  2. I am going on my first NCL cruise in November on the Breakaway so I don't have much to say about their cruises. I do think the price of their drink packages and internet are outrageously expensive for what you get. I have been on several RC cruises and I usually buy the Ultimate drink package with internet (unlimited) bundle and it cost approx $54 a day. This includes specialty coffees and bottled water. I think someone who is Platinum status should get more perks for being loyal. Lox and lobster are definitely up my alley so I feel your pain. I also think that those of us who cruise on a regular basis should give constructive feedback to our chosen cruise lines and let them know that what we want and expect in the dining rooms, amenities, and service.

  3. If I am not mistaken, the Breakaway is a 7 day cruise while the Anthem is offering an 8 day cruise. You are getting an extra sea day by design so yes, it will be cruising at a lower speed on it's way south. I would suppose that the ship will pace itself evenly while heading down to Orlando. If you call RC, I am sure the representative can give you more specific details. The one thing I do know is the Anthem was built with cooler weather in mind and so there are two indoor pool areas and there are many indoor activity spaces and lounge areas. The Solarium pool space is particularly wonderful. I don't think you will be disappointed.

  4. Make sure that you mention that your change is due to a Hurricane. I had to cancel my Delta flights and chose to go directly to Delta instead of the insurance company. Because my trip was impacted by Irma, Delta waived the change of flight fees and gave me a full credit for future flights. These flights have to be used by the people who originally booked. They are not transferable.

  5. That sucks. How stupid is that? - my first ever cruise maybe my last...

No cruise line allows guest to bring irons as they are a fire hazard. Choose clothes that don't wrinkle easily and definitely pick up some Downy Wrinkle Release. I travel with linen shirts to hot climates and have them professionally pressed, folded, and wrapped at the dry cleaner. People on a cruise are relaxed and I have never encountered any fashion police. If a couple of wrinkles are going to spoil your vacation, perhaps this will be your last cruise.

  6. I definitely think that's a large part of it. For instance, I'm not sure why Anthem gets such mixed reviews. It's such a beautiful ship, tbh it looks more like a Celebrity ship than RC (I know THAT is why some people don't like it) The staterooms are designed like real hotel rooms. 270 is such an amazing space. The shows are the quality worth paying admission for. TWO!!! Indoor pools! I see many comments that there's too many indoor spaces. Yes, but some itineraries warrant that. Sailing from NY/NJ means that for the most part it's going to be cold, so having lots of indoor space is GREAT! Just the opposite of Oasis Class ships, where everything is geared towards the outdoors and not enough indoor spaces. So RC was smart in designing different ships for different itineraries. Do you know not ONE NCL ship has a legitimate Solarium/Indoor pool area (Not talking about Haven).

Many traditional cruisers like the smaller, more traditional design ships with a wrap around promenade.

I completely agree with kwokpot. I recently returned from a 5 night Bermuda cruise on the Anthem. It is a beautiful ship. It is perfect for sailing out of NY/NJ because it has great indoor spaces. The 270 is an amazing space with so much light and space. Surprisingly, there is always plenty seats available. The Solarium on Anthem is absolutely incredible. The Solarium Bistro is a hidden gem that offers reserved time dining at no up charge unless you want lobster or the lamb chops. (both are worth it!) Lots of great entertainment. I really enjoyed The Music Hall that featured ROCK THE BOAT, an outstanding band that played great rock music. It's a very large ship with (I believe ) about 4800 passengers but I didn't feel like I was in a sardine can except for when we attempted breakfast in the Windjammer. Yes, I would have loved more outdoor spaces too but I had a balcony that allowed me to spend quiet time in the fresh air and sun. There is ample room and loungers up top so that you can take a stroll or get some face time with the sun. I would definitely sail on Anthem again.
