  1. Per Dusty Traveler

junkanoo beach is <10 min walk from the cruise terminal in downtown Nassau. It is a small gritty beach on a workign harbour and can be quite noisy and busy -- especially on busy cruise days. You can rent chairs and there are lots of food and drink options. Snorkelling would nto be recommended.

Cable Beach is a 10 minute taxi or jitney drive from downtown Nassau. Thought is is mostly for the hotels and private residences, there are public access points. There may be some vendors with food and drink, but I'm not aware of beach chair rentals. Just east of Cable Beach is Goodman's Bay, a nice little beach tucked into a corner cove. It is a public park and there are vendors there that have food and drink as well as rest rooms. Snorkeling would be possible, but watch for jet skis, as they launch here and come close to shore.

Cabbage beach is on Paradise Island and a popular spot with cruise passengers. There are lots of vendors here, and some can be a nuisance. The beach can be quite crowded at times, and the ocean quite rough. There are steep drop offs in some spots, and rip currents, so swimming here can be dicey. If your youngsters aren't strong swimmers, I'd be very careful swimming in some areas.

Saunders beach is midway between Junkanoo and Cable Beach and makes a great beach for a day trip. It's not as crowded as the others and is usually calmer than the others, owing to a protected location. It's quite shallow, making it a good option for the kids. There are rest rooms, showers and a playground. There are some vendors, though not sure if there are any with chairs. Across the street is a KFC and a gas station that offers cold drinks and snacks to a DIY picnic. Snorkeling isn't great, but is far safer as there are fewer boats and jet skis.

If you're looking to get away from the cruise ship crowds, opt for Saudners of you can try one of the many little coves along the shore road west of Cable Beach. You can take the #10 jitney bus ($1.25 pp each way) There are loads of little beaches and coves that are hardly used. Snorkeling is not bad along the shore, but you won't want to go out too far. Good spots are around the Caves, Orange Hill, Tuscalum, and Love Beach. You won't see many tourists here, but these are popular with the locals. Services are few, so bring your own towels, food and drink, but you'll likely have the beach to yourselves. The jitney buses pass by every 15 minutes or so but be sure to leave plenty of time to get back to the ship.

Other beaches are Jaws and Montagu. Jaws is the furthest away and requires a taxi. It's a nice beach and some good snorkeling, with a sculpture garden off-shore, but has no services of any kind. Montagu is a nice little beach, has vendors and restrooms, but not recommended for snorkeling, as there is fish cleaning nearby and can attract large critters.

  3. We will be at Nassau Bahamas on a carnival Cruise in June of 2023.  Looking for best resort with a day pass.  We are 4.  2 adults and our grandchildren aged 13 and 8.  I used to go to the Sheraton, but its been years since I cruised to Nassau.  Primally Looking for a lovely beach to swim and maybe snorkel offshore.

  4. As original poster, I wanted to say what we ended up doing.  I cancelled the NCL flights and rebooked.  The promo was $100 per ticket.  Bag fees would have been $180.  So original cost was $480.

I opened a AA credit card, so 3 tickets were $400, no baggage fees and $50 in taxis.  So $450 versus $480, but I had to eat $75 per ticket as NCL only credited back $25 per ticket.  So it cost me $675, versus $480.

it wasn’t just about the money or the extra travel it was that they quoted me one thing and booked another that was 45 minutes earlier in the morning and almost 5 hours later at night.  Way too much for my elderly mom.  The trip was supposed to be fun, not that stressful.  It was her last cruise.

so for me, I will never allow a cruise line to book my air.

  5. I did not see anything written.  The $12 was for a lounger with a padded cushion and one drink.  I told the waiter that I had read that it was for 2 drinks and he said one drink.  Now they did not charge my mother.  There were 3 of us, so we paid $24 for 3 loungers and two drinks, but the price quoted was$12 per person which included only one drink.

    • Thanks 1
  6. I assumed that on board credit would be applied toward the $15 per day per person service charge.  It was NOT and we were stupid and did not use it.  My Mom had $100 on board credit that she did not use, so she had to pay her service charges.  Has anyone had experience with getting this credited/reversed?  RC and I believe Carnival BOTH allow on board credit to be used against service charges.

  7. Yes we just got back and did some snorkeling off of Blue Kay.  Not a ton of coral, so not a lot of fish, but there are things to see if you don’t want a ship excursion.  The water was very pretty.  There are fish around the rocks and There are fish under the pier and I believe it is the location for NCLs beach break/ snorkel excursion.

I was with 2 non water folks so I did not spend as much time exploring as I normally would have.  We spent the morning at blue Kay and returned to the ship for lunch.  I did the afternoon catamaran snorkel with NCL and it was excellent.  Healthy reef, lots of fish.  Trip was from 2:30-6PM.  We snorkeled for a good 70 minutes.  The ride back was fun, over the wave bumps and free beers.

To blue Kay it is a $4 per person taxi ride each way.  We were charged $12 per person for a chair with a cushion and one 8 ounce frozen drink.

The folks at Blue Kay were friendly and very very helpful to my elderly mom. Yes there are many vendors that walk by, but a no thank you sends them on their way.

  8. Planning a NCL sponsored Snorkel/Catamaran trip in Costa Maya.  The trip does not start until 2:30PM, was wondering what we should do in the morning?  My Mom is in a wheel chair, but I love the water so...  .Suggestions in the Morning before Lunch without Mom or with Mom.
