  1. We will be headed to Tropicante next week via Celebrity for a relaxing day at the beach.  Made a reservation for loungers.  Looking forward to their great food and drinks.  It's been a little over a year since our last visit.  No children with us on this trip, but I'll try to follow up with a brief review when we return.

I will check this out.  Like the idea of eating what we catch nothing better than your own fresh fish!

SpartanGirlCruiser:  Any chance you will be in Key West via Edge on 1/20?  Husband and I were looking at fishing in Key West also.

  3. We always buy vanilla at Los Cinco Soles in Cozumel. They have a store located inside the cruise port terminal. About $14 for the large bottle, but a little goes a long way. Tastes so much better than vanilla extract. We buy the pack of 3 small bottles to keep it fresh longer and to give to family/friends at home.

Have not purchased vanilla or spices in Costa Maya.

  4. Cruise port stop in Costa Maya at the end of February. Would love to see Fernando again. I know he's changed job locations a number of times. Good times at 100% Agave years ago.

    Has anyone met/located Fernando lately?

Thanks in advance for a reply!

  5. No beach access, but a nice clean pool (a good size with a waterfall and a swim-up bar), plenty of super nice employees, good music, great drinks and food. Also has a gift shop. Special shout outs to Leslie "Craig" Thompson, Jennelle and Samantha for helping us make it a great day at Margaritaville at the port in Falmouth!!

  6. Nothing, eh? Ok, we'll post when we return and let you know whether or not the ship excursion went as planned! :)

Sorry, fellow cruisers :( we have no new information to provide regarding the golfing at Cinnamon Hill. The excursion for Wednesday, October 8th, was cancelled due to lack of participation.

Since we had booked and paid for the excursion in advance, I checked with the Explorations Desk on Allure when we first boarded the ship. They said 3 people (one being my DH) had already signed up for the golf trip. The gentleman said they needed 6 to participate, but he didn't think it would be a problem getting 3 more (on a ship with that many passengers, I was hopeful). Unfortunately, we receive a call from the Explorations Desk on Tuesday afternoon advising us that golf in Jamaica had to be cancelled. This person said they needed a minimum of 5 participants, but no others had signed up. The cost was promptly refunded to our onboard account.

They did offer DH an opportunity to sign up for Friday's golf in Cozumel (just approx. $20 more than the Jamaica outing). Apparently not enough were signed up yet for that either. He declined as we already had plans for that day.

So with no golf in Jamaica, we made the best of the day hanging out at Margaritaville at the pier (awesome time :D) and some shopping at the pier stores.

    Maybe next time...

  7. DH has his heart set on an excursion through Allure to the Cinnamon Hill golf course. We dock in Falmouth.

Has anyone golfed here lately (through any cruise line excursion) that can give us a review? If it's not a ship excursion, I doubt he would go. We've reserved it in advance, but there's no guarantee until we check with the explorations deck while onboard.

    Thank you!

  8. We have reserved a table at 150 Central Park for our upcoming October 5th cruise, but I'm beginning to have 2nd thoughts on whether or not this is the right dining venue for our group. I've been trying to follow the posts and threads mentioning the change in menus (from 2 varying menus each week to 1 new standard menu).

Question: For anyone that has dined at 150 Central Park during the last few weeks...

    1) What menu(s) are they serving during September and do you know whether it will it be the same or changing in October?

    2) Did you enjoy the menu items/courses?

    3) Could you make substitutions regarding what was being served in the next course (i.e picky eaters or food allergies)?

    4) How many hours did your meal last (without a wine pairing)?

I'd really like to try this adventurous dining experience! However, I am concerned that some adult members of our party will be "less than thrilled/impressed" with grand presentations of small plates consisting of 6 courses of "beets, baby carrots, goat cheese, ravioli, short ribs and dessert" (please don't flame me for that condensed version of the menu).

While I really prefer to dine together as a family, I don't want to make this dinner event into long evening, only to have some in our party go get a hotdog on the boardwalk or roast beef at the cafe afterwards because they didn't enjoy their 150 CP meal. Plan B would be to send part of our group to dinner at Chops or one of the other specialty restaurants on the same evening that some of us go to 150 CP, so they can dine on their preferred menu choices.

Your thoughts on this will be most appreciated!

  9. Husband is signed up for Oct 8 excursion to Cinnamon Hill via Allure. Still can't decipher from brochure description whether or not clubs are still included, but he said if not, he will just rent them at CH. Just taking his own golf shoes. We pre-paid for the excursion, but there's no guarantee there will be enough interest to make this happen until we hear from Exploration Desk while onboard. If they cancel it, RCL will refund the excursion cost.

  10. One blank personal check for "just in case $$". After I get onboard, I usually just put it away in the safe with our passports. RCL will cash one personal check for $200 for you on the cruise (with driver's license/I.D.). Gives me peace of mind that I'll will always have cash available at the end of our trip for tips, gifts, taxis, baggage handlers when we debark or at the airport, etc. Most times I never use it, however a few times it has come in very handy!

  11. :D We used Cosol Tours on January 4th while on Adventure of the Seas. It was the greatest! His brother Yellowbird was our driver and tour guide for the day and he was terrific. Baptiste drove the other van and was very nice too. It was an amazing day and an experience not to be missed!!!

Just as interesting was to watch Yellowbird "pay it forward". Take the tour and you'll see what I mean.

  12. The only way to see St. Lucia and get a great peak at EVERYTHING is with COSOL TOURS! Loved this excursion and it is highly recommended in my book! We just got back from the Summit Dec 10th sailing.

Saw something on the Travel Channel the other day that said there were bubbling springs with mud bath at the volcano. Do you get to do this on Cosol's tour at the volcano, or is it just a "peek" at the volcano site? Since you took this tour recently, just wondering if you knew. Thanks!

I had THR 3 years ago and need a knee done now. I did this tour this summer and had no problems with getting on or off. Go for it.

Ahhh, you are an adventurer indeed! Knowing that more than likely there will never be a chance to Segway through the sites of Antigua again with my family, is making this very tempting! They are all signed up. I may just wait unitl we are at the port to decide and then, if they can add one more on, then I might just join in.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

  14. They will teach you how to bring it to a stop and just stand still on it. To dismount, you get off carefully, one foot at a time. You just have to be careful not to pull back on the handlebars as you step off causing it to move. There will be a good training course before you take off on the tour. I'm mid-60's, overweight and clumsy and I have done this tour twice with one more booked. I got the hang of it easily and I love it.

Thank you so much for the replies and words of encouragement! Right now I have my family signed up for it, and with this new info, might add myself to the group. Either way, I'll be sure to post a review when we return!

  15. I really want to do this tour but am hesitant since I had a hip replacement about 1 1/2 years ago. I have no problem climbing stairs, etc. around home, but I'm nervous about the amount of hopping on and off the Segway when you stop it.

How much on and off is involved? Should I pass on it? Just looking for some opinions from those who have done it.

    Thanks!

  16. Thanks Jessemon for the good info. I did look at post #431, but that was back in October and the new Holiday Inn Express did not open until Mid-November, so I assume Ken was referring to the older version of the hotel which is now being operated by a different chain. I was hoping to find some feedback on the brand new one.

We are sailing on Grandeur for the holiday break.

  17. Hoping you can help me make my decision between the Springhill Suites near the airport and the "brand new" Holiday Inn Express near the stadium. Family is planning to stay at one or the other for 2 nights pre-cruise at Christmas.

I know the Springhill would be okay, but has anyone heard anything about this newly opened Holiday Inn Express (4750 N. Dale Mabry) down the road from the older version? Is there much of a distance between the two and the airport or the pier? Thanks!
