For our Oasis cruise next month NO specialty restaurants are available for lunch on embarkation day. We were really hoping once we get on board something may be open, since we are tired of the chaos that is WJ.

Same thing happened to us on this past August 4th cruise, nothing on the cruise planner stated that any specialty restaurant was open for embarkation day (which we found very odd because usually one is open as we have had lunch in the specialty restaurants on embarkation day in the past). When we boarded Oasis in Bayonne, we went to Central Park and checked, Giovanni's was open for lunch, we made a reservation for that day at 12:30 and enjoyed a quiet embarkation day lunch.

I imagine you are sailing at close to full capacity which is over 6700 guest. (Double capacity is 5600) Does the ship feel overly crowded or are you able do what you want to without lines and waiting? Thanks!

There was approximately 6741 people on board, there were times when the ship did feel crowded. At times there were lines for certain activities but that was at prime-time afternoon.

I love trying to piece things together as info begins to be available!

Harmony in St. Maarten —- could that mean it will be moving back to Florida after a stay in Galveston? Would seem St. Maarten is a long way from Texas for a 7 day cruise.

Interested in the Oasis class shuffle since Oasis should be due for drydock and supposedly will need to go to Europe in 2024. Don’t think the Freeport situation is any different. What may come to NJ?

I would think that with Oasis being as successful as it is in NY/NJ they would not want to decrease passenger occupancy during the summer months. If it has to go to Europe for dry dock, perhaps Harmony? I know Oasis is the only one in the class in which the funnels are meant to fold down on a regular basis. So, I am curious to see what actually happens when the bookings are available.

  4. We are going on Oasis in August and at Coco Cay my daughter's (11 & 😎 want to use the Thrill Water Park. I know I have to purchase tickets for my children but will my wife and I have to purchase tickets to the water park even though we will not use it, we just want to be with them and make sure our daughters are ok when using the slides.

Not that you've asked about specialty restaurants, but just so you know, Chops is no longer open on embarkation day on Oasis.  We were on earlier this month.  I suspect (but don't know for sure) that this is a function of the fact that they are serving the modified Chops menu in the MDR to the Key folks and they simply do not have the manpower to service both venues effectively.  I had been reading, recently, about the poor service in Chops on embarkation day, which I suspect is a result of a stress on serving staff.  I guess it was best just to close Chops completely and focus on the Key crowd.  Giovanni's is open though, if you are looking for a specialty restaurant on embarkation.  If you have the Unlimited Dining Plan, it is included.

I reserved Chops for Embarkation day lunch for my family and I (August 5th), it said nothing about having lunch in the MDR with a Chops menu. I know people that are using "The Key" have lunch in the MDR with the Chops Grille Menu.

  6. I pre purchased the Coffee Card and was on Anthem August 1st, all iced coffee's are 1 punch, Frappuccinos do not count twords a punch and have to always be purchased.. and depending on the size of hot coffee or how many shots of coffee is the corresponding punches. When it came to milk depending on what i was drinking I asked for whole, skim or Half and Half and never had a problem.

  7. We have sailed all three lines, we mostly return to Royal because it fits us better, the ships are in my opinion nicer and more airy because of the Promenades, Esplanades and Central parks. As for entertainment I thought NCL was better than Royal. Although subjective I found the food in the Main dining room in Carnival better than both Royal and NCL with NCL trailing. Pay venues are all much better than main dining rooms on a lines. Haven in NCL was excellent, more of a ship within a ship, I found the Breakfast and Lunch in the Haven to be better, although Coastal Kitchen is good, I am not much a fan of California and Mediterranean inspired Cuisine (Subjective). You will find all three lines more similar than not. And a day on a cruise beats a day at work no matter what ship!

There is a new Quantum class ship coming in 2020, perhaps to Cape Liberty

I would hope that Royal will do the same thing they did when Quantum was due in Bayonne. Fill in from when Anthem leaves until I believe it is Pulse of the Seas (Quantum 5) home ports in NJ. Remember I believe Explorer left Bayonne and Liberty filled in until Quantum came here.
