  1. Hi. I was an avid cruiser/traveler prior to being diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease in 11/2014. One of the things that worried me was that I could not travel any longer. I have learned how to plan ahead and what is the best method of travel for me. Cruises are easy because you can have your supplies delivered to the ship. Talk to your clinic nurse and supply company at least 3-4 months early prior to sale so things can be in order. I would add 2 months if sailing from an overseas port. I made a video which helps explain budgeting and some tips on planning while on dialysis.

  2. I know this is late but I just got off RCCL Allure of the Seas and did Reggae Hill...which is not in Falmouth. This is what I wrote for Trip advisor.

My 13 yo daughter rated it 8.5 out of 10 but I don't agree I would say a 3 out of 10. We purchased 5 tickets for this excursion through Royal Caribbean International Allure of the Seas. Once we located the area to meet with the operators we ended up being split between two vans which* I wasn't happy with because 3 of the family members were teens. Our driver was Ryan and tour guide was Natalie. At first she was very soft spoken but once she became used to us opened up and was seemed more confident. The trip from Falmouth Jamaica was 1 hr 20 minutes. At the end of the ride It was very bumpy and fast speed. It was a little confusing once we got to Reggae Hill because we were shuttled off the van and some folks were handedshe drinks until they ran out and had to get more. We were also sent to a line to have a photo taken which would later be used to make a souvenir pic with frame which they sell for 15.00...beware they track you down at the end if you don't go over and purchase it ahead of time. They don't ask if you want to buy it...they tell you the price as if they were going to ring it up. So we were seated and Natalie waited on all the people in the van and gave each person various sampling of foods. Approx 5 different types of food. All which were good. However because there was so many people there it took time for her to come back and forth. We had no instruction as to what would happen next. What I did notice is that folks who wanted massages were told where to go otherwise we had to keep asking. Finally a very nice gentleman/employee named Keno came to check on us and see where the rest of our party was as we were sitting by ourselves...still waiting. He told us that we could go get in the water or explore the grounds which we did. He was very informative and even have some history of Reggae Hill and White River. Apparently Reggae Hill has been operating for 15 years. We have been coming to Jamaica for years and never heard of it. The grounds were beautiful and peaceful. The water was refreshing and there were performers and various types of music. I think I was a little discouraged because the staff other than Natalie and Keno did not seem to be happy. I usually adopt the atitude of the staff. There was supposed to be dancers but it was 2 boys and a girl who seemed to dance when they felt like it. The band played 2 songs then music was played by MP3 or CD or something. Not a problem either way but it seemed like a 4th of July party at a friends as opposed to something worth 64.00 pp. Anyhoo on the way back to the ship we went to a shop purchase souvenirs. We did not get off the van. I have my money on purchasing the pic with frame. Overall I love Jamaica but honestly I think I would have chosen something else to do. For the price (300+ US for 5 people) I think we paid too much.* This was the first disappointment with anything Jamaican but a lesson learned. After discussing it with my husband we decided not to go to any more excursions with cruise ships....we will venture out on our own and not go beyond the port. Not for safety sale because we ALWAYS felt safe but this seemed pieced together. I really wanted to like this excursion however it was not as great as i thought it would be. My husband and I noticed that if you haven't booked a massage or ordered drinks they ignore you. Oh I forgot on the way back to port the driver was driving erratically and too fast.I complained to the cruise ship staff. Hopefully it will be addressed. I learned that the contract with Reggae Hill and RCCL WAS only 8 months. I was also told by the supervisor of the excursion dept,Raphael, that he went to the excursion a few times and didn't have any problems. Duh...of course Reggae Hill would put in a good "show" for RCCL staff...they wanted the contract. My recommendation...do something else....not worth the money.

  3. I am stopping there on my upcoming cruise. Is there a beach within walking distance? Or anything else we can do without booking an actual excursion? Is there a cruise centre like Turks and Caicos/Amber Cove?

I just got off the Allure...not much to do in Falmouth...they take you to Ocho Rios or Montero Bay which is 1 hr 20 minutes away. We did Reggae Hill through RCCL. I don't recommend it. Its too far if you were trying to do something on your own.

  4. Hello,

I didn't know this group existed however boy am I glad I found it. A little about me...I am a social worker who lives in PA. I am employed in a local county agency which services adults with mental health diagnosis. I am also a therapist in the evening working with kids who have behavioral diagnosis. I am also a homeschooling mom of 6 kids (DD012, DD-16, DD-17, DS-20, DS-24 and DD-25). My husband is a stay at home dad and the best (because he allows me to drag him where I want to go.) My biggest passion in life is to vacation...cruising is high on that list. I love being a homeschooling mom because we use many different experiences/opportunities to explore the world and learn. I have gotten to a point where hubby and I take trips by ourselves and then with the kids...oh I forgot to say that I am a grandmother of 3 beautifully gorgeous kids. I hope to take them on a cruise REAL soon!

  7. 1. new ports

    2. get rid of dj and bring back live music

    3. fire some of the top dogs and hire people who know a thing or two about cruising.

    4. shows - no more trivia, no more Hasbro game. I want to see a show at night. not other cruise passengers doing a game show or talent show.

    5. fountain pop

    6. no more bacon police

I agree about the fountain soda. I was at Blizzard Beach at Disney this summer and they have a cup that they sell that which activates the fountain soda stations. If you don't have the special cup then you can't get soda. We paid 9.99 per cup which included free refills. Carnival could still charge a daily price and those who purchase the soda plan must use their cup to get the soda.

  8. Get real massage therapists in the spa. The girl who did my first and last one seemed to only use her fingertips (3 fingers on each hand) to do a deep tissue. She was very young and didn't even seem welcoming.

This suggestion leads to the staffing issue....someone posted that the staff seemed unhappy. I agree...the staff in the Lido restaurant, on my last cruise, seemed to be tired of vacationers. Carnival needs a morale committee to keep the workers happy.

It would be nice to have more trips to ports in Dominican Republic, Antigua, Aruba and Martinique. Maybe better combinations of ports.

I agree with others about more live bands. I love reggae and calypso bands. Dj's are good in nightclubs but bring back poolside live bands.

Better breakfast variety in the MDR. Even though I always order eggs Benedict it's because there isn't much to order...try a nice frittata or specialty omelets. Rotate them on the menu.

Better activities...how about a dance contest or shaved ice eating contest or daily scavenger hunts or pub crawls...something other than watching someone carve ice.

One year there was a couple, who did arts and crafts every morning. Hubby and I made a S&S card holder and foldable scissors holder. They were a lovely older couple. I haven't seen any activity like that in a while. It was held during the morning puzzle handout.
