  1. Thanks Firemanbobswife, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer, I love that this message board is here and that most people are kind, like you, and help others.

Coevan, sorry to have irritated you with a question that bothers you. Please feel free to ignore all other posts or questions that I may have. I don't care if the question has been asked and answered 20 times. If you have answered the same question 20 times, why don't you just scroll past it the next time it is asked and go on your merry way. Have a wonderful day

  2. If we purchase the Social Wifi package on one of our phones, does that phone also need to pay $5 to use the Chat feature on the Hub?

Last time, our daughter purchased the Social Wifi package for the duration of the cruise and I know the rest of us paid $5 for the chat feature. I just can't remember if we had to also pay $5 for her to chat.

    Thanks

  3. Thanks for all the advice. Old tennis shoes, great idea! We did buy him a pair of water shoes today though. I really didn't want to get there and have his shoes be a problem. We all have water shoes, but his feet just keep growing [emoji23]. And I'm rethinking the backpack. We've got waterproof cases coming for our phones (the type with neck straps) and hubby can use a ziplock for a little cash, credit card and our cruise cards. I can bing a small pocket size sunscreen and maybe call it good.

  4. I've tried researching and all I can find is "water shoes are recommended". Can you wear sandals similar to Keens or Teva's?

My other question is: can you wear a small string back pack while climbing the falls?

We are doing the "Bobsled Jamaica and Dunn's River Falls" excursion through Carnival.

    Thanks!

  5. Wow, Suite Traveler, that is a lot of great information! Thanks for taking the time to post that. No river cruise in my immediate future, but it is something I have started researching for my husband and myself.

  6. You can bring soda and water, but they must be in cans. No filled bottles are allowed to be brought on. I think the soda's were about $2. My son and husband had the bottomless bubbles, my daughter brought cans of Arizona tea and I brought the crystal light packets. We had two rooms so we were able to purchase the bottomless bubbles for just my husband and son.

We did the prepaid tips, which is where the $13.95 amount per day is coming from.

We didn't bring clips for the shower curtains either, and we won't on our next cruise. It wasn't really a problem.

We did take with us a power strip without the surge protector. It worked well for us. I know that others have said they disconnect from electronics, and we did a little. However, we all use our phones as cameras and the hub app, and we all use an iPad for reading and such, plus a battery charger for the actual camera. It was nice to have extra plugs.

  7. My daughter is currently a freshman at a university. She lives at home and commutes to school, so I see the amount of homework she has. My first concern would be the lectures she would miss during classes. She doesn't do a lot of class work, so she might not miss a lot of daily turn in work. She does however have a professor that does a lot of quizzes and tests and I think missed quizzes cannot be made up.

I know my daughter wouldn't want to miss a week at school, it would cause her a lot of stress. We stopped taking her out of school for vacations in her high school years. She didn't like missing school, said it was too much to make up. She took 5 AP courses her senior year, she likes to challenge herself academically.

You know your daughter and know if it would cause her stress or not. Unfortunately, you don't know yet how the professors would be.

My other thought is the age consideration. We took our kids (14 son, 19 daughter) on our first cruise this year. Our daughter turned 19 the week before our cruise. She loved learning to gamble, she played a little roulette and black jack. Our kids hung out with us the whole cruise, son had no desire to go to the teen club, daughter couldn't. In defense of your daughters past enjoyment of the the teens club, I can see why you might worry she'll miss something she has grown to love. But as others have pointed out, with a semester of college under her belt, she might not enjoy the teen club as much. She might just love hanging with her mom, reading on the serenity deck, going to the casino, the comedians, going to the spa, etc.

One more thought, I agree with others that I wouldn't surprise her. About 6 years ago, I asked my kids if they thought a surprise trip would be fun, they both didn't think so. Too much to prepare for missing school, and they both said they love the anticipation and planning of our trips. Being a freshman in college, she might like to know ahead of time to plan accordingly.

Definitely a tough spot, have fun which ever you choose!:)

  8. Thanks for the review!

We have only cruised once, in January on the Elation. We never noticed a problem finding lounge chairs to sit on. According to these boards, it seems it's usually a problem, did you notice that on the Dream or were there plenty? I'm not really worried about sitting by the pool, we just would like a place to relax in the sun.

    What was your itinerary?

  9. We were on our first cruise this past January, 2 rooms for four people. We were pleasantly surprised when we returned to our cabins in the evening and saw the freshened up room, towel animals and that they had replaced our towels. While twice a day isn't a make or break deal for us, it was nice and it is a service that is included per Carnival in the auto tips.

If we are asked; AM, PM or both on our next cruise, we will choose both. If it's changed to AM or PM only (not twice) I do think they need to change the tip amount, as it is, we are tipping for twice a day service.

If it's changed to AM or PM only, we would probably choose PM. It's nice to come back after a fun day to a fresh cabin that's ready for us to tuck into and start off our next morning.

  10. Has anyone stayed at the Bienville House? We are looking at it for one night before our cruise? The location on the map looks like it would be good for visiting French Quarter for a day. We are flying in, will take Uber to the hotel, and to the cruise port, so no car to get around with. Can anyone tell me anything about this hotel or if it's in a good location?
