  1.

One last question YYJ is which airport? and the other YVR (Vancouver?) Which is closest to the Vancouver airport - I assume YVR? And YYJ, is that closer to the Gardens? I'll have to look into SEA for her as well, since she likes South West airlines (she lives in a different state than I do).

YYJ is Victoria International Airport, it’s about a 15 minute drive from Butchart Gardens (we live 5 minutes from the gardens). Horizon Air (Alaska Airlines) has direct flts from Victoria to Seattle.

YVR is Vancouver International, they have flts serving the globe!

I hope you manage a trip to our beautiful city.

  2. It takes 45 minutes each way on the tube, plus the cost of the fare, you’ll need to decide what works. We stayed at the Corus Hyde Park last summer we’ve also stayed at the Renaissance LHR several times. You will likely be better off in the city. We took the National Express bus to Southampton from the Central bus terminal at LHR.

  3. Update to this conversation: spent a few days in Victoria recently and tried Callebaut chocolates. We found the store and bought 3 of their small assorted chocolates (milk chocolate strawberry, dark chocolate coffee, dark chocolate rum). They were not good. Sorry. No flavour, small pieces, huge price. Later in our trip we purchased 6 Victoria Creams from Rogers. Incredible.

I'm sorry you don't like Rogers and certainly everyone has an opinion. I just came back to state mine, after trying your recommendation. :)

    .

I'm glad you got your Rogers and enjoyed them! Truth be told, I eat far more Rogers than any other chocolate as we have a shop half a block from our office, patients bring them as a gift. It's chocolate therefore I'm still going to eat them!

    Cheers

  4. I live literally 5 minutes from Butcharts and even we take a bus on fireworks nights. The one time we drove it took 45 minutes just to get out of the parking lot. Butcharts is my number one recommended place to tourists, I think in this case you just have to pay the price. Enjoy!

  5. The DT is flat but lots of traffic, we have a new bike "highway" in town but the drivers are still getting use to this. We are a very bike friendly city but I wouldn't ride DT, just too much traffic for me, just my opinion of course.

If it were me I'd likely go to Beacon Hill Park, (that would be good for biking) they have a great petting zoo with baby goats, always a fun time.

  6. I think you'll find that that kind of non-rev pax can bump a rev pax on any airline. "Must fly" situations are exactly that, and if the aircraft is full, someone on a normal commercial ticket may find themselves short of luck.

If it's a deadheading crew then unfortunately it may result in a rev pax getting bumped.

  7. I did qualify myself by saying that we are looking for flights from Aus to Nth America, not the other way round. I have a very detailed knowledge of how it works for Qantas staff, having very close friends and neighbours who have worked for them for a long time. As a rule they are able to access the information of how loaded the various flights are and may choose to fly a couple of hours later on a domestic flight or the day before on an international. Good luck to them and I would certainly be doing the same if I was in their situation. But I cannot justify, for us, spending $20,000 extra to fly Qantas return to Nth America on business class.

Of course we have access to the loads, but you are not subsidizing us, as I said previous, if there isn't a seat we don't get to go, they will not bump a rev pax for non-rev, they don't make any money that way and that's why they are there.

  8. I am looking in the other direction for early next year. Sydney to Vancouver and return from San Francisco. Generally business class fares are five times the price of economy. We simply refuse to pay that sort of differential even though, strictly speaking, we could. One reason is that we know a lot of people who fly business and first and they rarely pay for it themselves. Most are current or former airline staff or related to airline staff. Others can combine a leisure trip with a business trip paid for by their employer. I really would have the feeling that we would be subsidising the premium travel of all these people who pay

Clearly you have no idea how it works for "airline employees." If we are on a pass it's STAND BY, meaning no seats we don't go. You are NOT subsidizing us. I can't tell you how many times we've watched the plane leave without us on it.

  9. Guess I'm an idiot. Guess my years of NEXUS membership don't really get me the Global Entry and Pre Check benefits that I use on the regular. Guess it didn't speed me through US Customs Friday before last or literally while entering the US again today.

NEXUS membership for Americans grants Global Entry, Pre Check, NEXUS and SENTRI, as well as serves as the underlying trusted traveler membership required as a prerequisite for Privium, ABTC, ABG+ and Viajero Confiable.

So unless you're a US national with NEXUS, stop misinforming people about what it does or doesn't do.

Thank you for the back up.

  10. As I said, not the same thing if you are a US citizen. Maybe, if you're Canadian, it's the same at a Canadian airport. But, if you are a US citizen (or a Canadian) at a US airport, Nexus does zilch for you (which is why Canadians have some sort of deal to get both Nexus and GE).

Guess we're different. Nexus works just fine at US airports

  11. If you are a US citizen, all Nexus does is it gets you back and forth across the US/Canada border with minimum hassle. It does not expedite your return to the US from any other international location like Asia or Europe or South America, etc. Only Global Entry does that. And remember: PreCheck for departing US and Global Entry for returning

It's the same thing. Nexus is Canadian GE is American. We use Nexus when returning from anywhere. There's a designated Nexus line.
