  1. Hi Victoria,

Yes - we made an almost last minute decision to return to Alaska and are doing the Vancouver to S.F. sailing at the end of next month! I'm excited for you to be doing your first Regent and first Alaska cruise. It should be great.

Would love to communicate with you privately but do not want to share my email address on a public forum. Let me think about this...... maybe an email address that I started a couple of years ago but haven't used is still working. If it is, I'll post it.

P.S. Just checked and it is still working. You can reach me at meettc2@gmail.com

Oops, I posted in wrong place. Just sent you an email to the address above. Hope we can connect!

  3. We have only done two on your list. We loved the Sea Otters and Wildlife Quest in Sitka and have always done the George Inlet and Crab Feast in Ketchikan (it was amazing).

There is a choice of the Crab Feast excursions - one is included and the other one has a cost (a Regent Choice Excursion that includes a seaplane ride). Based on what we experienced, the one with the seaplane is much better than the other one. While the "included" excursion was held in a big restaurant, we were in a private room - at a long table where many passengers were seeing who could build the highest pile of crab shells. It was the best crab that we've tasted (well, maybe equal to the crab that we had in Norway).

Writing about this makes want to return to Alaska:)

    Hi Jackie-

I have to smile as I reread my original post and all the helpful replies. We are a month from our first Regent adventure and thanks to so many great CC contributors, we're set to have a grand time! It seems it conjured enough great memories of Alaska for you as well that you decided to return! Again, just sad it's not on our sailing.

You and I see the world and travel very similarly. So funny that you lived in Southern CA then moved north to Washington. I lived in Portland for 10 years (still have my home there) and moved south to CA! Still miss the beautiful Northwest!

It would be great to text/email you directly. Is that possible?

    Best,

    Victoria

  4. Hi Victoria,

So glad that you have a good TA and sorry that we will miss you by by such a short time. My husband and I had absolutely no interest in cruising when we went to Tahiti in 2004 (on a ship no longer in the Regent fleet). We loved the cruise and became "hooked" two years later when we sailed on the Voyager to the Baltics. We were fortunate to have done international land trips for several years and loved not having to pack and re-pack every time we changed cities.

Hope that you enjoy every moment of your cruise!

Hope you're right, Jackie! We travel overseas extensively as well, and do so very independently, which is why my DH (darling husband, right?) thinks he will have his "wings clipped" being onboard a ship. We've been to every continent but Antarctica - my last big bucket list destination. I told him I'd give up that dream (hopefully just postpone) if he'd agree to Alaska. This trip is shorter, more diverse, cheaper and warmer...how could he possibly refuse! I know he'll have a blast and have told him as long as he'll admit to having a good time I'll never say, "I told you so!" [emoji41]

  5. Thank you one and all!

We do have a good TA (our friends traveling with us are Regent cruisers and have used her before) and will be well taken care of ...of that I'm certain. Even though I can't see the "best" offer out there, I am happy with our price, rebates and OBC given.

Jackie, sure wish you were sailing with us - sad to miss you by just a week or two! I'm hoping Regent, and Alaska, will win over my "I'm NEVER going on a cruise!" husband so our paths might cross on a future Regent adventure. Cheers!

  6. Correcting a typo in my last post, I meant to say that the sale highlights cruises that are NOT selling well.

Agree about Alaska season.... The August 23rd sailing was less than half full the last time I checked.

Hello, Travelcat2! (Hope I'm doing this correctly)

As a soon to be first time Regent Cruiser, I've been following Cruise Critic posts for months learning so much about our Regent in General and about our upcoming voyage. The recent trip reports have been tremendous, and comments/suggestions from loyal Regent cruisers, like you, have been truly appreciated. Thank you all!!

We've had our cruise (August 9th to Alaska on Mariner) booked for months, but I've been reading on CC that there have been some attractive offers made recently for the Alaska trips. Might you provide some insight on the following?:

~If one has already paid for a cruise, then discovers a better price, does Regent offer an adjustment?

~How does one gain visibility to a certain sailing to see that it is less than half full?

~Where might one search to find the most discounted fares? I'm a pretty capable researcher, but don't think I'm finding the "gem" of an offer that is out there.

    Thank you again!

    Victoria

  7. Normansmom-

We are in the same boat [emoji6] as this will be my first cruise on Regent but second to Alaska. First trip (and first ever cruise) was on Holland America's Noordam 30 years ago! While this coming voyage will be a different experience on every level, nothing will eclipse the wonderful memories of that magical journey!

We sail on August 9th from Vancouver north to Seward. Will I see you onboard?

  8. Greetings all-

Thank you Normansmom for your post above. I copied/pasted/forwarded it to my

my wonderful Regent agent and he confirmed the following good news! [emoji846]

"The new menu went into effect on March 8th, 2017. The ship is going under refurbishment in March of 2018. Hence the confusion between the two...

Being a first time cruiser with Regent I booked directly with them. Thank heaven our friends traveling with us had sailed with them before and connected us with their travel agent to transfer the booking. Win-win for everyone.

  9. Just looked at the Regent website and found this information regarding the new menu:

"We are pleased to re-introduce the elegantly enhanced Compass Rose, the largest specialty restaurant across our fleet. Ensuring a tantalizing mix of new and familiar items on every visit, the new lunch and dinner menus offer a vast selection to meet your discerning tastes. Exclusively aboard Seven Seas Voyager[emoji768], and Seven Seas Navigator[emoji768] for lunch, you may choose from a robust list of appetizers and main courses from our specialty restaurants. And across our fleet for dinner you have the unique ability to design your very own entrée from preferred sides, sauces, pastas and main features of beef, poultry and fish. This is in addition to sinfully indulgent desserts made by talented bakers and pastry chefs. With daily changing menus, the refreshed Compass Rose offers more choices than ever before. The new menu will launch aboard Seven Seas Mariner[emoji768] on March 8, 2017."

Looking forward to many lovely meals when we sail on Regent for the first time this August to Alaska on Mariner. Getting very excited! [emoji846]

  10. To all those who posted suggestions - you are generous indeed with your time, thank you! So very much appreciated. It truly helped me decide the best mix of excursions to book -- most through Regent but one independently. Now fingers crossed we get confirmed for our first choices!

While you're all being so helpful, might you provide some CC posting guidance for:

*How to create a Roll Call. (There isn't one for our Cruise on Mariner August 9, 2017)

I have searched high and low through several layers of CC and find no instruction.

Only a "if you don't find your roll call, click here". Then what?

*How to highlight a part of someone's post to reply specifically to that thought.

Again, many thanks. I'm learning quickly! Look forward to becoming a contributor once we return from our cruise.

  11. Travelcat2- Thank you so much for your insight. I was truly hoping you'd comment as I see you've made a second home of Mariner! ;)

I would greatly appreciate any advice as to which excursions you think are especially noteworthy. I realize this is highly subjective, but we're all fit and looking to experience a little local/native flavor, a bit of adventure on the ice and lots of wildlife.

    Our thought is to do:

~ Ketchikan - George Inlet & Crab Feast

~ Juneau- Helicopter onto glacier (suggestions as to which? Have done the dog sledding in Banff so don't need to repeat)

~ Skagway- one of the float trips (suggestions?)

~ Sitka- Sea Otters & Wildlife Quest

Sticking to one excursion per port I think is best so we won't feel rushed and have time to enjoy each town as well.

While the 2 other couples joining us can sign up now, my husband and I are not in a Concierge + suite. Hoping we will not get shut out of our first choices. Does this happen often? Again, many thanks!

  12. Hello from a first time Cruise Critic user!

(Hope this is now posted in the right spot!)

As a longtime TripAdvisor user I know just how valuable forums like this are for ensuring the best possible adventures. Thank you in advance for any and all of your kind suggestions. Greatly appreciated!

My husband and I, along with 2 other couples, will be on the August 9th, 2017 Regent cruise aboard Mariner from Vancouver to Seward. I am researching the various excursion options (whew!) and the one that has me in a quandary is whether or not to take the RC Tracy Arm offering. My understanding is that the ship itself will cruise up Tracy Arm all morning before docking in Juneau at 1pm. Will we get close enough (ice permitting) to really experience the glacier activity - not only see but hear the calving? Would taking the RC excursion add significantly to our experience? I can totally understand why it would make sense if a cruise ship is not sailing to this location, but for Mariner cruisers, would the excursion be redundant?

I'd love to get up close and personal to the ice ...but would also enjoy having a really good view from my balcony, in my robe with a hot coffee! If Mariner offers a great experience from the ship, we'll opt for a helicopter excursion onto a glacier once we dock in Juneau. Your thoughts?

    Thank you!

(This will be our first cruise on Regent and I'm truly looking forward to it!)
