  1. I could be wrong but I believe carnival has had some issues with people over the legal age to drink but not 25. Spring break folks come to mind. If too many people over 21 and under 25 are together there have been some challenges with over consuming alcohol and misbehaving. I realize that this happens with people over 25 as well but I think carnival sees an uptick in bad behavior when groups of under 25 year olds are together

I have heard vaguely of "spring break" but wondered if it was just a movie thing...like the movie "The Hangover" is exaggerated. It's not a "thing" in Australia... usually we just sort this kind of thing out by pricing things out of the uni student market..... I guess that's not so easy in the US

  2. I just got off the Harmony of the Seas yesterday and just wanted to warn folks who have Celiac's to be very careful. I received gluten meals in Chops and Coastal kitchen on day's 2 and 7 respectively. Even though I questioned the waiters they denied giving gluten

Dear OP, I am so sorry you experienced this. This message isn't for you. I fear you have fallen victim to waiters who have stopped believing in genuine allergies because of people who "claim" an allergy when it is just a dietary choice. The type who say they need gluten free bread and then order t crumbed chicken...you are very clearly not that careless person.

To passengers who don't have a genuine allergy: PLEASE STOP TELLING WAITERS YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE NOT MEDICALLY ALLERGIC TO.

  3. Since I feel the need to over plan every aspect of my vacation, I was thinking about water. Typically I order a case of water for our room. Now that CHEERS includes bottles of water, is it worth doing that? I would think that as long as I remember to get water often enough, I would keep some in my room. I might still get a case for the room my teenagers are in, just so they remember to keep hydrated, for when my nagging isn't enough....

    Thank you for any thoughts...

Do you mind if I ask - are you worried about water quality from the tap? Haven't come across a cruise ship yet that I needed to pay for water... with no offence intended, why would you pay for water?

  4. Given the shops aboard most vessels, what do you feel comfortable buying?

Curious as to your thoughts . . .

This is a great thread -

would responders consider stating what country they are from - it makes a big difference to comparative pricing ...

  5. I need clarification on Carnivals age guidelines.

As long as someone over 25 is in the "group" would Carnival allow them in a separate cabin ANYWHERE on the ship or would they have to be "nearby"? If so, I assume this couldn't be booked online, correct?

Please forgive me if I inadvertently cause offence... is this a US thing or a Carnival thing... I am completely confused as to why a 19 and 21 yo are not considered adults on an international cruise..

As an Australian (where the last age of legality for anything is 18) it seems very strange that two legal adults would have restrictions placed on them... after all, what if they were travelling on their own? It is my (possibly incorrect) understanding that most countries outside the US also consider 18 to be adult.

Respectfully, can anyone help me understand why would treat a 19 and 21 yo as minors?

  6. My daughter used to love eggs benedict when she was younger, but then she was diagnosed with Celiac, and had to give up the English muffins. Now I make her own version once in a while. First is either a few pieces roasted asparagus or some sautéed spinach with garlic, next some thin slices of fresh salmon or lox, put a poached egg on top and drizzle copious amounts of hollandaise on top. I wonder if RCI would make something similar for her. anyone know how well they handle custom requests?

These are very very normal variations (at least in Australia)... it is often called "Eggs Florentine" (when served with spinach) or" "Eggs Atlantic" when served with smoked salmon... and even if they don't recognise these names, its a very easy substitution... you probably still need to clearly state "no bread" or "gluten free".....good luck.

  7. The great lanyard discussion.

Why don't the ladies out there assemble a cruise wardrobe that makes cruising simpler for them? Leave outfits that can't accommodate a key card at home. Consider buying a skirt or two that will compliment a number of different tops that have at least one pocket for your cruise card. Do the same with your choice of slacks or shorts you intend to pack. Not a big fan of shopping? You could also take a favorite dress or skirt you wanted on your cruise to a tailor and have them sew in a small side or rear pocket. Bye, bye lanyard.

What was supposed to be a humorous take on wearing a cow bell, I mean lanyard, around one's neck looks to have turned into a bit of an Andy Rooney rant. I apologize.

Hilarious, thank you!!! Like a lanyard or a beach bag is such an issue that I would buy special clothing (or add a weird pocket) juuuust for the cruise!!! Thanks for the giggle! :-)
