  1. It has been mentioned that in Denmark and Sweden, cash is not needed and credit cards are the way to go.

But what about for restrooms? Don't you need cash (local currency) to use them?

That's why I got a little of each currency. I dont want to buy something each time I need to go to the bathroom.

  2. My brother's chip card was hacked three times in a 2 month period. The second time it was hacked before he even received it. So much for the better security of chip cards without pins.

Good to know FritzG!!! I intend to get local currency for each port before leaving for the Baltic cruise. Less need to use CC!!!

  3. One piece of advise is if your spouse is traveling with you that you both take different cards. I had a coworker whose wife's purse was robbed in Paris. They had to cancel all their cards as they were taking the same cards.

Very good advice! My husband and I have each have our own cards so should anything happen to one's wallet the other can still use the credit cards.

  4. It's not an app. Originally Princess released an app that had to be downloaded and installed. It went away almost immediately - in fact I don't know if it was ever actually used. You just follow the directions - the ones you saw posted and which are also in the Patter - to set up and account. No app needed. I actually downloaded the app when it first came out and installed it on my phone - I think it's still there - but I never had to use it because by the time we next cruised it was obsolete.

Thanks Thrak! I will use Princess@Sea which is free of charge to check my stateroom account.

  5. I understand that everything you buy is charged to your account. Do we have to sign every time we buy something? Do we get a receipt so we can regularly check our account in order to see if there are any error?

  6. My husband's credit card was hacked in Copenhagen last September and the cc company cancelled it. Fortunately, with chips, my card, (as it has a different number, even though it's the same account) remained viable. We could continue to use mine throughout the remainder of our trip abroad. PS...we always notify the cc company before travel anywhere, including other states in the USA as well as foreign countries.

My credit cards and my husband's are all chip cards. They are less easily hacked from what I have read on the subject.

  7. I use 2 credit cards when I travel and I let them know which countries I will be visiting (start date to end date). I do not have to let them know where I will be on any particular date, just which countries I will be visiting during a particular time frame (for example - I will be in Europe from September 7, 2017 through November 1, 2017 and am visiting the following countries: Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Italy - that is the only info that my CC banks require). They don't need my day to day itinerary - lucky for me as my itinerary often changes. I would surmise that it would be the same for you - apprise your bank of the countries you will be visiting and give them a start and end date.

Thanks dogs4fun!!! Will do just that!!!

  8. I plan to use my credit cards in ports during a Baltic sea and Saint-Petersbourg cruise next June. As I usually do when I travel I intend to advise the banks in advance so they don't block my cards. Since it will be my first cruise I would like to know if I have to let them know about my itinirary day by day or just let them know that I will be in some countries of the Baltic sea and St-Pétersbourg between such and such date.

    Thanks for any advice!

  9. You will have precious little opportunity to use rubles in St. Pete. Almost all the tours take you to shops that want western currency or take credit cards. On those tours with lunch included, you might have to use rubles to buy an additional drink.

Estonia uses the euro. Not marks.

    Thanks Matha!!!

  10. Yes its included.

Remember if you have the time then Kronborg (hamlets castle) is close by, actually on the same train line as the Fredensborg castle.

Hillerød with Frederiksborg castle is in one end, Fredensborg in the middle and Helsingør with Kronborg in the other end.

Thanks Danish Vicking! Do you think we can visit all 3 of them in one day, including transportation???
