  1. This is true . They have tropical storms right now by Saturday it will be in the gulf some where no one knows

They are saying it may be a CAT 1 by Saturday.

The forecast is for the panhandle and Louisiana.

I am hoping this does not happen I do not want to deal with another hurricane so close to the last one.

This sucks! And I hate that I feel the need to add the disclaimer to those that will call me out, yes, I know many people are suffering from the horrible hurricanes recently. But yes, it does suck to think an upcoming trip is going to be affected by tropical storms, rain, etc.

  2. Harvest Caye is not owned by NCL, it's owned and operated by the Belizian's. NCL pays them rent, that's why the food isn't free and why you can't use your drink packages on the island.

Harvest Caye is actually owned by Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings. But unlike other islands owned by cruise lines, the workers on the islands are not NCL employees, they are actually Belizians, so a portion of profits actually goes back to Belize.

  3. Just returned from 7 day cruise. I noticed before last full day of cruise, our room steward kept asking if we were happy with his service.

Finally, he said that he might not be available tomorrow so if there was anything we wanted him to come back for later.

Realized he wanted his tip, which we had set aside to give him the last evening of cruise. I went ahead and gave it to him them. Later that day, I saw him and said hello. He was very curt with me and did not show same friendliness. I guess he was not happy with his tip of $100. I thought it was very generous, but now I wonder. Perhaps, since he was done with us, he moved on to other guests? Really put me off. Did not adjust our DSC , paid in full.

Wow, that is absolutely INCREDIBLE to me. Were you in a swanky area/suite? $100 tip. Da-amn!!!!

  4. This just made me happy. I just added snorkeling yesterday to what we were doing in Roatan. It's my DD's first cruise, and I realized we didn't include in snorkeling in our excursions (my DH and I had decided in the past we didn't really need to do snorkeling anymore). So reading this added to my already excitedness :-)

  5. I loved Harvest Caye in January and can't wait to go back again in October. Maybe because we are doing sooooooooooo many excursions/activities at our other ports, I don't mind the chill day. It doesn't bother me at all that you pay for things and can't use your room card, because I did know that in advance. I can see being peeved if you didn't know. I did get an overpriced, weak, drink at the swim-up bar, but then we found the shop with the frozen drinks from the machines that ALREADY have alcohol in them, and you can add a floater if you want. They were not marked as high as the pool bar, and actually served a purpose!!! I will be greatly disappointed if this place is gone in October. Last time, we just chilled and did the motorized boats (started the day with these), and if was fabulous. This time, my DD and DH will be parasailing, so that is fun to look forward to. Is it overpriced, yup, but it's vacation, so I don't mind. We walked back to the ship, not a bad walk at all, ate at the buffet, and walked back for the rest of the day. We got there when it opened and hated to leave when it closed.

  6. UPDATE:

I just got a call from a customer service supervisor from ncl who stated that they will not allow us to change to the following week.

I asked him if it seemed OK to him that I booked my honeymoon specifically for the thermal spa, and made that clear at the time of booking, and then after ncl had my $8k + they closed the thermal spa and wouldnt let me change my sailing by 1 week when theres plenty of rooms available to do so.

He stated that corporate has not authorized them to make any changes due to the spa issue.

In other words, they have our money and we are stuck not getting what we wanted.

I am sick to my stomach with disappointment.

I'm so sorry. I really do understand your frustration. It's a very ****ty situation all around.

Two Wheels, so glad you opted to pop into this thread. Always a pleasure.

  7. Is the ship out every week of the year? Isn't there sometime it is docked where things like this can be done? I don't plan on using any services of the spa, massages, etc., I just wanted a private place, away from crowds, to RELAX. The description of it sounded AMAZING. Was one of the top things I was looking forward to. If these things need to be done, they need to be planned and not sell the option for that week. If you go on now, you can STILL buy the option.

  8. Okay, sorry for skipping over that part. I was going to say, that is a lot of money. We did do some pricey excursions so adding one more person to that would definitely add up. I purchase those and pay for them all ahead of time. So once we are on the actual ship, there's actually not much money spent. I think you were in a good place no matter what. Enjoy.

  9. Seriously, if that is just your spending money, everything else is paid, that is a ton!!! It's a family of 3 for us, and I can't even comprehend spending 1,000. I am not even sure what all we would spend it on. There's really nothing on board we spend money on. The only thing we will spend money on is spending cash at each port. The excursions are all prepaid before boarding. So food/fun/souvenirs is really all we will spend. This is first cruise with DD, so we will have some games on there I am sure. Last time, I bought a pair of earrings on board, that was the only money spent, besides drink taxes, which is very minimal (and we drank a TON).

I wonder if my DD, 13, will want to do the teen club at all. I like the idea of asking her to go the first night. But it will be weird without communication. I may look into the cruiser to cruiser communication app.

  10. We did the electric boats when we were there last winter. My husband is tall, bad knees and a larger middle. The guy helping him get in boat said I had that tummy but now that I have this job I have lost 40 lbs. He said that he only worked 1 day a week on the mainland so This made his wife very happy that he now worked 6 days a week! So our tourist dollars do matter to the people working on the island.

Every beach is different in the Caribbean, some awesome and some just have that beautiful ocean to look at, and swim in.

This is another thing I like. The folks working are not NCL employees, they are Belizean :)

  11. Was there in January, and can't freaking wait to go back again in October! I had absolutely no issue with nothing being included and not using the room key for anything. We brought our cc and cash for that reason. The frozen, slushy drinks that already have rum in them are AMAZING, and you can get a rum floater as well. Those drinks were NO joke and very much did the job. I had the unlimited drink package on the ship, but these paid drinks were my favorite by far. The people working there were hilarious! I loved the beach as it had my favorite kind of seashell EVERYWHERE. This time, my DD is going, and she will be parasailing. I will have a slushie drink in my hand, straight up chillin!!!

  12. Anonmom, I understand. Your thoughts are mostly what I do see. So I was hoping for OP that Belize wouldn't be an automatic turnoff since it isn't really Belize, ha! I have not been to Belize City, but I am sure I would love it. I really think I would love ANYWHERE I would go with a cruise port and excursions. I think Harvest Caye was especially nice for us since we did the excursion type thing at the other ports, and this time, we even get one additional port, so the chill day was awesome. But I would love anywhere!

  13. Hello. I've already gone on a NCL cruise in January, my first. And now I am going on one in October. It wasn't planned to go again so soon, it just happened. Both times, I just called NCL and booked the cruise. I didn't use the consultant that was emailing me to use them and I didn't use a travel agent. Is there an advantage of using a travel agent over calling NCL directly? If so, I probably don't want to know if I could have saved a ton, ha! But was curious of the people I see that always mention a TA, are they folks that are always cruising, and that is just what they know. Like they have been using TAs from back in the day before the online world hit?

Again, this won't change anything for me now. But should we go on another in the future, still can't believe we are doing two in one year, I wonder if I should look into another option than just calling NCL.

    Thanks!

  14. If Belize is a big turn off, you may be excited to know, it may not actually be Belize, but Harvest Caye. Not sure of your itinerary, but Harvest Caye is hated by those that say "it's not really Belize." So maybe you will love it. I went there in January and am going again in October. I LOVED Harvest Caye. It was an awesome beach, chill day. And was super easy to go back to the ship for lunch and some drinks. And the frozen rum drinks there are AMAZING!!!! I smile just thinking about Harvest Caye.
