We are on the Summit canal sailing in April (westbound).  I am not expecting our sailing to be affected by the drought measures that the canal authorities have effected.  Right now it is affecting freight.

Summit will almost certainly go through the old locks which use less water than the new larger locks.

Seems to be good news for the cruise industry then up to now !!

We are also booked on this cruise I suggest anyone else booked to  do a price check to see if it's lower.  I have been checking the price a few times a week and I have twice had our room drop in price.  We have knocked off almost $1,000 since we booked this in November last year.

I am hoping that because the Summit is a smaller ship that we won't have any problems going thru the locks.

Didyou book direct with Celebrity or via an agent?

  3. Hi all we are doing this cruise hopefully after 2 cancellations due to Covid over the last few years, however with the Panama Canal locks water issue and reduced daily transits for commercial vessels I am hoping this cruise will still go a head without any issues. I can'yt find any news anywhere that covers the issue that mentions cruise ships only freight and bulk carriers. Has anyone got any news or thoughts or do we just hope for the best. Not sure if we will be going via the "old Locks" or the "new Locks" but any news will be good news for us travelling from the UK.

Thanks for any information from any of fellow sailors in advance.

You didn't say which ship.   If it's an M class ship where the only accessible AQ cabin is aft on deck 9.  I'd jump on it.  Yes you might get a bit of noise from the outdoor seating above but the huge *wide and deep) balcony would totally make up for it in my mind.

    Silhouette Sorry

Nope.  The Blu Dining room is nice, but the cabin locations are in some of the worst spots on the ship.  Under the pool deck or other high traffic areas.   This late in the booking process it's likely only the poor cabin locations are left.

Does that include the Celebrity Silhouette?

Looking to book an Aqua Class accessible cabin, can anyone give me a heads up if they are worth it as this is the only option for the particular sailing.

    Thanks for your help

The only accessible cabin option ratger than the balcony accessible I meant to say

The itinerary Southern Caribbean & Panama Canal does a partial transit.  It goes through the Gatun locks and turns around in Gatun Lake .  The cruise starts & ends in Florida.  We are booked on that itinerary in 2023 on the Edge.

If you do a full transit you start from either the Pacific and go all the way to the Atlantic or reverse.  Those cruises often start in LA and end in in Florida or the reverse.

  8. Hi looks like we can't go now on the cruise we wanted but now looking at a cruise the Southern Caribbean with the Panama Canal transit. My question is does the " Transit" actually mean going through the Panama Canal locks fully into the pacific and circle back or does it just go "To" the canal and then back to the next port it is not clear and the travel agent is now closed to ask them?

  9. Thanks, I was fully prepared for snarky comments!:o

Don't forget the "tipping" differences between the UK and USA customs differ quite a lot. We in the UK tip regularly at about 10% USA citizens possibly more but we don't expect to be tipped as a waiter/waitress in restaurants or anywhere else but US workers do expect and in some cases demand it.

  10. So questions about the prepaid for the drink packages. Do you still tip when you get drinks? How does that work cause when you sign the receipt it has a line for you to write in a tip. If you don't tip you look an ass but they don't know you prepaid the tips.

I know last year when did the deluxe package it included the gratuity, however every time my husband got a drink he tipped. In the end I think we paid another $100+ in tips just for drinks. He was just getting whiskey on the rock - nothing fancy.

How does everyone else handle that?

On our cruises we normally try and get the " all inclusive package" plus pre- paid gratuities then once on board after a day or two go to the customer service desk and ask the gratuities to be removed and tell them we do our own tipping....never had a problem yet and we tip as we feel good service has been provided, however we always tip the cabin steward day one along with the table waiter and barman along with the phrase look after us and we will look after you.....never fails to produce

  11. I am also researching the same cruises. It appears Hal has the best prices

We are now would like to ask for thoughts on Canada and Alaska Cruise as this looks like the next for us in 2018 hopefully to see family in Vancouver as part of the holiday. Whats the best time to go etc. Just returned from Asia Cruise with Celebrity Millennium and had a look on board at the Celebrity Infinity as that sails there. Any thoughts would be a great help.

Thanks in advance for any advice

  12. We are now back from the Southbound Asia Immersion Cruise on the Millennium about 2 weeks and would like to thank everyone on CC who helped with itineraries and tour company recommendations and to say we had a great time in a wonderful part of the world.

Many thanks :cool:Dave and Sandra,Maureen and John Kathy and Billy from Liverpool UK

  13. Hi, we are thinking of taking an Asian Cruise in 2019 but I am intimidated that I do not speak any other languages. Was this a problem anywhere?

We went on the Asia south bound cruise with Celebrity Cruise also on the Millennium and have just returned a couple of weeks ago. We did not have a problem in any of the countries we visited including Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore. All spoke reasonably to very good English. To help you it would be a good idea to try researching your destinations and book private tours to ensure you get the best out of each of the ports of call.

  14. Started cruise in Hong Kong, then Vietnam (Hanoi, Da Nang, Saigon) then Bangkok ending in Singapore, 2 weeks. Willing to answer questions now that we've returned today. Ask away if you have any questions while it's still fresh is my mind. Also spent 5 nights in Seam Reap touring the area and Angkor Wat temples.

  15. Hiya Thom thanks for the info! getting a bit embarrassing this...I am usually very proficient on the web but CC is not very user friendly until you become accustomed to the many many ways around the threads and posts and links is it? I really need to spend a bit more time on here to find my way around better.

I will hopefully be able to do so now the holiday period is or has come to an end.

    Kind Regards
