  1. I live in Victoria, BC - my brother and wife are coming out from the UK in May/June 2023 for a 7 day Alaska cruise (Vancouver return).....nothing booked yet but as they are retired, it will be HA, Cunard, Princess or similar.

I wish to join them, but obviously don't want to pay double occupancy. Is there an easy way to find out where to find single cabins, or which lines give breaks for single passengers?

    TIA

    Dave.

  2. Well, that did rock...they were only 25,000 tons compared to the behemoths of today! Glad that you saw the Mardi Gras as she was back then, and also that as you live in FL is so easy for you! We, however, will never do big ship cruising again - partly as Ive seen it from both sides ( a Navigating Officer and a passenger) and as latter I feel like being herded like cattle.! Try small boat cruising as you meet 'travellers' not tourists? We have done one Katarina Line in Croatia (32 passengers) and are booked to do another in September.

However, my gut feeling is that the Cono situation will be much worse in N America than your note expresses.

  3. I guess I'm really old! I sailed on her when she was the Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Canada in 1970 as a Third (Navigating) Officer, then married one of the ship's nurses. 23 years later we sailed on her again as the Mardi Gras as passengers! Deja Vu! Not much had changed, just a few paint jobs!

  4. We took a 7 day cruise with Katarina Line a couple of years ago and it was superb! It was 7 days, 16 cabins (32ppl + crew) from Split to Dubrovnik. The Company has 20+ small ships and caters to all levels of travellers.

We have done several big ship cruises and will never go back to them! Yes, they are cheaper, but you feel like cattle!

What we seek is something similar to the Katarina small ships...30-100 pass max.

    Any suggestions gratefully received!

    Dave.

  5. Love to chat with you guys re the Mekong Prestige 11 - we are about to book for next February.

Dave and Joan - Sooke BC.

I have just booked on the RV Mekong Prestige for Feb 2016 after doing quite a bit of research and cost comparison (also looked at the Heritage line). All the Mekong river cruise boats pretty much do the same itinerary with the same stops. Lots of price difference if booking with the major lines vs. booking direct with the boat operators in Vietnam or Cambodia.
  6. Hi fellow CC members - was just googling Mardi Gras, and came across this site! I first met my wife on the MG when she was the Empress of Canada (Canadian Pacific Steamships, not CPR!) - my wife was one of the nurses and I was a Navigating officer. We went back to cruise on the MG as passengers some 20 years later - she really hadn't changed apart from paint! Interesting jeja vu though!
