  1. A new store on the bay street block, giftaholic, has a nice display of Havana Club rums.Owner traveled to Cuba just to procure this supply.Unfortunately, the bottles had to be priced high to cover the cost of the trip, but at least it IS available.70cl bottles... White, gold, and yellow labels are $36.Brown label is $40.Black 7 year label is $50. Two bottle box $74.As the store is brand new, prices are still being adjusted on stock as owner gets a feel of the business.Great guy to chat with if you get a chance!

  2. I've seen Santiago de cuba that individual owners may have imported themselves on a bar shelf or two but the only cuban rum brand imported by 700 wines and liquors stores is the havana club brand. Also, only the 3 year,7 year, and selection de maestros are currently being imported. FYI,Santiago de cuba is exactly the same rum as the 5 year Havana Club, anejo especial which was recently available only at the cuban liquor store on the corner across from senior frogs in Nassau for $20 for the 35 cl bottle.(Casablanca):halo:

  3. 700 wines and spirits seems to be the actual only importer and their prices were$20 for the 3 yr 1 liter,$36.99 for the 7 yr 1 liter and $105.25 for the 70cl selection de maestros. Not all the 700's currently have it in stock but stop in 1 and they can find which other stores have it currently.

Other stores that currently have it are Fiesta liquor store,Bahamian T'ings,Island wines and spirits on Mackey street,Casablanca/tropicana,downtown liquors, and old nassau liquors.Looks like it will be very common again very soon.:)

  4. I'm back in Nassau, and so is Havana Club rum! ;p Not available everywhere but if you look around, you will find it.Price on 1 liter 7 year old varies widely from $29 to $48 depending where you buy it. 3 year old 1 liter is $16 to $25.

Cuban liquor store across from senior frogs has 375ml flasks of white or gold label for $19 which is way overpriced and their 1 liter 7 year old bottle was $38.

  5. Is there a favorite you have?

Last cruise I had a bar order of Captain Jack with juice set ups. At home I had a Malibu rum. So this is the better buy on ship, unless there is a yummy local in Nassua.

Nassau does have a pretty good local rum < John Wattlings > There are 4 age expressions; price points around $25,$35,$60,and $120.Any liquor store in Nassau carries this brand and it is usually the same price as at the Wattlings tour (about a mile walk from the docks) Cheapest bottle is a mixer only but the rest are pretty good.If you take the tour, you can sample a flight of the first 3 for $6. You can watch it being bottled by hand on the tour, but the actual distillery is on the south side of the island and is not available to tour.

  6. I have most of the brands currently being produced in Cuba. There are only a few rum distilleries across the country,so the exact same rum is often marketed under a few different brand names and price points. One example would be Havana Club 7 anos.It is the most expensive and most easily found, although Caney centuria,Varadero 7,and Caribbean Club 7 are all the same, exact, product.

The brands I currently have represented are :

    Arecha

    Caney

    Caribbean Club

    Corsario

    Havana Club

    Legendario

    Matusalem

    Mulata

    Santiago de Cuba

    Varadero

Bottles were brought back from Bahamas,Canada,Cuba,Dominican Republic,England,Germany,Italy,Mexico and Spain. Most Cuban rums are very good but the brands I would generally pass on are Arecha, Corsario, and Mulata.:D

Airlines will allow up to 5 liters of liquor per person in your checked luggage. Most common size of Cuban rum is a 70 cl bottle so you can carry back 7 bottles per person legally, although you may have to pay duty of $2 a bottle at customs.

Although it is now legal to buy and import Cuban rum and cigars from any country you can find them in,it is still illegal to mail order or sell it in the US due to the embargo.

  7. Just returned from another trip to the Bahamas.Nothing has changed regarding Havana Club rum.Saw a total of 2 bottles of the selection de maestros expression in a week long trip.Priced at $115 and $127 (2 different stores) this is at least double the price you could buy it for anywhere else in the world. No other expressions were available anywhere, and no plans to import any from the main importer;700 wines. :(

As a side note,Cuban cigars are always readily available and start at $10 a stick.

  8. Last time Havana Club rums were imported into Nassau,Bahamas was November,2015. Burns House was the local importer at the time but they recently have gone through a name change.(700 liquors) Currently,(December 2016), all the remaining stocks have been sold off and it's nearly impossible to find any HC rum on the island. The new importer has discontinued its importation of Havana Club rums until further notice. :(

On a brighter note,it is currently legal to import as much Cuban rum and cigars from any country you can buy it in. (mail order excepted) Of course, you are subject to paying tax on amounts over your exemption, although customs rarely bothers to actually collect it. (within reason) Tax is around $2 per bottle.
