  1. On Monday, I checked on the Trade Routes cruise for Oct. 4 2021.  This cruise has been cancelled 3 times for us so we booked an Egypt River cruise in March,2022- cancelled because covid delayed completion of the Osiris.  Rebooked Egypt for May 23, 2022 but today I see temps in Luxor are 113.

Today I see that the Trade Routes for this year are gone.  I sincerely hope it is just the glitz.

  2. We are also scheduled on the Trade Routes of the Middle Ages departing April 8 or just 59 days from now.  We were able to schedule dinner reservations but nothing else.

Hope we hear something soon because I may have hotel and flight reservations to cancel,

I have done a lot of research regarding travel insurance over the years and have found that the trip insurance store is a wealth of information.  So many great tips and explanations regarding what is and is not a pre-existing condition and how to best cover yourself.

I realize the answer to this question may be in the fine print somewhere but was wondering if someone with experience could help explain.  Two of my friends are booked on Viking Star (double occupancy rate) to leave in 34 days.  One of the friends has a father not in good health.  She now realizes that she MAY have to cancel her trip.  Both friends purchased the insurance.

My friend asked our travel agent and was told IF she cancels, she will be refunded all but the insurance cost.  However, the OTHER friend will now have to pay a single rate which is about 3k more.  This does not seem correct to me.  Why purchase the insurance?  I get it that one friend would save, but the other would be screwed.

    Any thoughts or experiences?

We purchased Viking's travel insurance for a river cruise in China that did not pay anything.  My husband had skin cancer on his head that had been treated and the cancer was gone.   At the time of our trip the cancer had been gone for a year but my husband decided to have plastic surgery to help reduce the size and depth of the scar.

About a week before our scheduled cruise, his plastic surgery wound began to become red and infected (seeping).  I called Viking to cancel the trip and was told that the travel insure would not cover because that was considered a pre existing condition.  We lost the entire cost of the trip.  We sent a lot of  documentation from the oncologist and the plastic surgeon stating that is was not cancer related.  It was still considered a pre existing condition.

Because we had put the entire airline and cruise on our American Advantage credit card, we promptly received a check for $8500 for the cruise from Citi Bank AAdvantage  and a voucher for future flight replacing our RT business class seats.

Bottom line - ASK more detailed questions if you purchase VO travel insurance. I clearly did not ask the correct questions about the insurance.

We finally rescheduled the trip to China the following year with Viking  (fabulous - highly recommend), and we have been on 3 Viking Ocean cruises since then.

    Hope this experience helps.

  5. We are on the same November cruise arriving in Haifa on Nov. 10. We are using

http://www.israeli-tour.com for the three days in Israel. They will pick up at the ship in Haifa with 2 overnights in Jerusalem in the Old City, three days of touring and drop off at the ship in Ashdod. We are doing their Tour #4, #3, then #1 with modifications. We have to check in with Viking to let them know that we will not be sailing from Haifa but rejoining in Ashdod. We are hoping this is a good tour company. They have been very quick to respond, allowed changes to the itinerary they have posted, and were cheaper than the ship's overnight tours. Hope to see you on board soon.

We are on the same cruise in the same category and were able to book our desired excursions as well. We opted to do private tours in Israel with Israeli-tours.com with another couple so that we could maximize our time in Israel. Our friends have been to Israel 3-4 times so the private tour will allow us to make deviations from the published tour. We are also staying 2 nights at the New Imperial Hotel just inside the Jaffa gate again to make the most of our time in Israel. Glad you were able to schedule your excursions. Hope to see you soon on board.

  7. My husband will wear a baseball cap to eat at more casual World Cafe but generally not to The Restaurant. In 2014 he had 13 surgeries and 3 failed skin grafts on his head in addition to 13 rounds of radiation as a result of various skin cancers. This year he has problems with a radiation burn about the size of a dime that he has been trying to heal unsuccessfully for 10 months. The baseball cap hides the scars and indentations on his head. If one of the places is scabbed or looks too red, he will try to hide it with a skin colored band aide (rather than his baseball cap) so not to offend anyone or embarrass himself with the way his head looks.

Whether it is The Restaurant, Manfredi's, or one of the more casual dining locations, he is always neat and presentable. We enjoy Viking because of the wonderful people we have met, the service, the crew and the fabulous locations. We have made great friends on the Viking River Cruise in China, Viking Ocean to Med. and North Africa and look forward to meeting new friends on the Athens-Israel-Rome Viking Sky. I hope that no one will allow what they wear or how they look prevent them from enjoying the Viking Experience.
