  1. Has anyone had any experience of ship wifi, portable wifi devices, or contacting the UK from the Japan region.

Can you use a UK debit / credit card in cash machines throughout Japan?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Wifi on the ship is average. There are many companies who do the pocket wifi.... pick up at airport on arrival and drop off to a postbox as you leave the country. Obviously probably wont work sea days or south Korea ports etc.

A friend reccomended rentalwifi.com... I plan on booking end of the week. Less than three weeks now till the Diamond!

  2. We had a steward on our first Hawaii cruise (our 3rd cruise overall). Saw her again on the Pacific. We were just walking the halls looking at how different the Pacific is from other Princess ships. DH saw her down the hall (he has a memory for faces/names, me not so much). He called to her and she said, "Mr & Mrs ---, Star Princess, aft Dolphin mini-suite". We were knocked over that she remembered us.

One of the best stewards on our 20+ cruises.:D

Wow!! That is special! How cool!

  3. This thread is making me ridiculously excited! 45days till the Diamond. Which must mean 40-41days till we fly.

I have a box in my wardrobe.... with books I'm taking, travel tolieteries, packing cubes and so on. Will move it all to the spare room with suitcase in about three weeks. Need to start an actual list

  4. My wife and I are on Diamond leaving Yokohama on Sunday 20 August for an 18 day trip around Japan including Russia and South Korea.

Can you tell me if a kettle/electric jug is available in the staterooms?

This was available on Sapphire a couple of years ago on Asian cruises.

    Thank you.

When we sailed on the Diamond in 2014 there was no kettle. I believe it is deemed a health risk. We are on the Diamond again 1st Oct. Can get boiling water from the MDR. People say the ship coffee is week?? Can't remember. Thinking about bringing a bag of instant from home. Big coffee drinkers here

  5. Keith,

Do you know of any actual itineraries that have been changed because of piracy? Current discussion on Viking World Cruise Roll Call about pirates.

There has been SO many discussions on princess boards and other online groups about the news articles regarding risk and pirates. Pirate drills are nothing new and have been going on for years. The news articles are exaggerated and sensationalised.

  6. With all the rumblings re missile testing and retaliation, wonder how serious things have to get before cruise lines change itineraries or governments caution their citizens on travel in the area. Problem is the region is so large and can impact Hawaii, the Pacific and Asia.

Expect it is covered in all the cruise line agreements and changes at their discretion have to be accepted without compensation.ie expect insurance will be exempt as in the weather, war, or act of god instances.

    Anyone have any experience?

Have been wondering this too!! Especially seeing as last week North Korea filed a missile that ended in the see off Japan... and we off on a cruise round Japan on the Diamond Princess on 1st Oct. My Husband reakons North Korea been testing missiles for years and unless something big happens between North Korea and the US no itinerary changes will be made till then. Interesting and a little worrying tho!!

  7. Also in reference to your original posts and your friends not having access to the cruise personaliser because booked with a TA is incorrect. TA will give them their booking reference so they can access it themselves to book excursions etc. But yes gift won't show up

  8. Hi!

We took our three year old (turned 4 on the cruise!) on a cruise Singapore to Tokyo three years ago. He had a blast! At home he was out of day sleeps but had a sleep most port days cause it was sooo hot and the heat exhausted him.

We tried the kids club.... but the time we arrived they were doing introductions etc and all the kids were sitting around.... getting a 4yr old to sit still for a while like that was a bit of an ask. Not surprisingly he didn't want to go back after that

  9. Not sure about floors on lower floors or western TV but we stayed Keio Plaza three years ago before our cruise and booked to stay there again after our cruise this time. I remember the buffet breakfast being great. Out TA organised a shuttle to the airport and that worked well.

  10. I thought the same, feel bad for Sam the OP, did not realize the PCL board was like this :( I starting to get ready for our Diamond cruise in October....gives me second thoughts on posting here.

We may be on the same cruise! I am on the Diamond 1st Oct for 16nights!?

No, no.... everyone is friendly here! I think the OP post was just a little bit ambiguous that's all. I agree to sit back, relax and enjoy..... suppose other people are more angsty and impatient.

I think of cruise ships a little like planes.... even if leave a bit late can usually make up time 😀
