    Cons:

Our Bank of America Premium Rewards cards pays us a much higher "rebate" and has much better travel insurance

We also have the Bank of America Premium Rewards.  For anyone looking if you have a Bank of America bank account and funds at Merrill Lynch the rewards structure on this uses your combined balance to determine the bonus rewards structure.  It has a $95 yearly fee but I use this card almost exclusively and the fee is a drop in the bucket compared to the cash back rewards I earn.

The Chase Sapphire credit card  has a $95  yearly fee .We took out the card for Hawaii cruise & placed a $4000 down on the cruise initially ,That $4000 satisfied Chase  requirement in 90s=days ,Because we did that we got 80,000  bonus points  ,That 80,000  bonus points converted to $600 in our pockets .What is wrong with that ?   Come on people it makes perfect sense to get the best cash deals & simultaneously get free trip insurance  for trip cancellation ,trip interruption &  baggage coverages . Then get a Allianz yearly travel ins policy  like I said above  .But ,if people want to spend  big insurance fees for short trips &then no more value ,well we all make our own decisions

Totally agree with you.  I play the cash back game with cards.  I currently have a Chase Visa simply because it is paying 5% on the first $12,000 in groceries in the first year.  $0 yearly fee.  I'll cancel when we hit $12,000 because my other card pays better Cash Back.

Trip insurance does not reimburse to gift cards. If you need to change plans for a reason covered by trip insurance, the gift cards would become worthless. This includes the policies offered by chase/Am express as part of the credit card benefit.

I use the gift cards, but only for things that I would be reimbursed for in the event I needed to cancel. Example, gift cards are great for gratuities. If you don't show up on the cruise for whatever reason, that amount could be refunded to the gift card. I also use gift cards to purchase On board credit. I do not use gift cards to pay cruise fare.

Gift cards are great, but know their limits.

Thanks for your input.  My husband and I were just having that conversation.  We did agree that on a 14-day cruise we know we will do Rudi's at least once, unlimited dry cleaning, maybe get 2 massages each, etc.  We will purchase them to cover on board purchases.

  4. I had no idea about the $500 gift card for $450 through AARP.  So you just buy those and then turn around and apply it towards your cruise?  Right now we have a 14 day Norway/Iceland/Scotland cruise booked for next June that I'm paying down.  That could be significant savings for us.

We have a 14-Day cruise in our future.  Looking at scheduling some of the restaurants other than MDR.  We like to eat in the MDR on the Gala Nights/Dressy Nights whatever they are calling it these days.  What are predictions for those evenings based on this schedule?  Also this is our first 2 week cruise, should we anticipate 2 or would there be 3? TIA!

  6. Thank goodness I stumbled across this thread the other day.  I reached out to our PCC and by adding Club Orange we saved $540 and ended up in the cabin category we had originally booked.  He had to backwards engineer the booking and the upgrade got us right where we wanted to be.

i keep thinking the longer they wait the more they will appreciate the refund.

March?!?  Oh that's frustrating and discouraging.

Ha, the call just disconnected or dropped right now. After seeing your post at 5 weeks, I'm a little worried we won't be seeing any reimbursement from HAL. Please let us know if you find out anything.

You're better than me.  I gave up after 1.25 hours.  I did email what I think is the president of HAL's email address.  If I get any response from it I will come back and let you know.

Try sending an email to reservation_accounting at hollandamerica.com.  They answered me after a couple of days regarding a refund I had been waiting on...  Perhaps they can get you a status on your issue.

I'll definitely try this!  Thank you.

Suggest calling the PCC number -- do not punch in your's extension, stay on through the recording and choose to be connected to the PCC "switchboard" (not what they call it). I had to make time-sensitive changes while my PCC was away from her phone on much-deserved time off, and that is what I did. The person that answered was very good and got me sorted, with not much "hold" time.

I had thought about doing that too.  I had been on the fence about changing our PCC and I think this situation has just proven that we need to change.  So if nothing else I will call the main line and do that.

  9. Hi all!

Am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on who to contact at HAL.  I am getting zero response from my PCC and I spend hours on the phone trying to get through to Customer Relations and no one ever answers the phone, I sit on hold.  Here is the situation:

5 weeks ago today we emailed Guest Relations Department an Out of Pocket Expense Request Form.  We have had no contact with HAL to date.  So we have no idea if the packet was received, is it in process, has it been rejected, etc.  I was hoping my PCC could at least contact someone internally to confirm yes the packet is being processed or no you need to resend.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I've considered calling and asking for a new PCC.  Ours only responds if you want to book.

  10. I've looked through the thread and haven't found this addressed.  Would appreciate some feedback:  We dock in Vancouver on May 29.  We have flights out that afternoon at 2:30.  I'm trying to determine how much time to allow for disembarking and taxi to the airport so I can schedule our tests at the airport.  I've only been to Vancouver 1 time and we stayed extra days after the cruise.

Any input would be appreciated.  I am worried that 11am might be too early?  It could quite possibly leave us with too much time milling around waiting for the time slot?

  11. We currently have HAL transfers scheduled from Ft. Lauderdale airport to the port for our April 1 sailing.  That is costing us $76 roundtrip.

Had lunch with a friend over the weekend who has done this airport to port trip with HAL transfers and said it is far easier to just get a cab.  He said they had to wait for an extended period of time for a Delta flight to land, etc. before they were allowed to board their transfer and get to port.  I am reading through a google search that a cab from FLL to port is approximately $18.  Does anyone have an experience with just grabbing a cab and heading over on your own?  We have never been to this airport or this cruise terminal.  Would appreciate any feedback.

    Thank you in advance!

You did receive a booking confirmation from HAL or TA? In Cruise Details on that confirmation  in the 2nd column column with number of days, Category, Cabin number, Bed specs,  you will also find your Seating arrangement in the MDR.

Hope it helps and that HAL USA sends Booking confirmations like they do in The Netherlands.

Thank you! I knew I had seen this somewhere before. I didn’t even think to check that document. PCC came through - main dining, table for 2 request. That’s one of the perks of using the same person to book you over and over he knows what we want.

  13. I apologize in advance because this is a pretty stupid question but I can't seem to find the information....where on my booking information on the HAL site can I see which MDR dinner seating we are scheduled for?  When we booked our cruise yesterday with our PCC I forgot to request the 8pm seating.  I can't seem to find it listed on our booking to see if I need to bug him again.
