  1. Im on the Eclipse now in a sunset veranda. I’ve sailed mostly with Royal and NCL previously in balcony cabins. I’m mid-40’s.

I like Celebrity, but outside of the age range of guests skewing much older on Celebrity (which I like), there isn’t much different from Royal. I find the food comparable in the main dining room, and actually worse in Eclipse’s Oceanview compared to Anthem’s Windjammer.

I would sail Celebrity again if I wanted the itinerary. But I’m not wowed by it above RCCL or NCL.

They made numerous announcements this morning, asking for blood donors with a blood donor card O positive and then O negative.  My wife is O positive.  They would not let her donate, they only want MALE blood.    The only explanation I can think of is if the patient is Muslim.

Pathologist, here.  They may have needed the plasma or platelets from the blood donation. Men, in general, have less antibodies that can cause blood transfusion reactions when infused in the recipient, because they don’t get pregnant and host another human for 9 months.  That is why they likely asked for male donors.

trip sounds awesome. Will be on the Eclipse in February and enjoying the reports.

I would save Antarctica for a separate trip, and go with a company that gets you "boots on the ground" to Antarctica, rather than just a sail by as  in your first itinerary posted, the experience is magical and the wildlife encounters are stunning. We went with Ponant, and it was magnificent. Ideally, for Antarctica, choose an itinerary that will get you the Falklands, South Georgia Islands, and Antarctica (we did one named "Beyond the Polar Circle").

So, if you are going to save Antarctica for a separate trip, then I would select itinerary 2, which is a popular South America itinerary, giving you bits of city, beach, nature, wildlife, scenic sailing.

Thanks, that’s what we are thinking. I think the second itinerary just seems easier from a trip planning aspect flying in and out of the same airport. We booked both but will cancel one soon (likely the 2nd).  I think my brain keeps thinking that we are so close to Antarctica that I can’t help but want to see it. 😆

  5. Hello,

I’m planning a South American cruise for late February and am trying to decide between 2 itineraries on 2 different lines. Not a huge joiner, so I don’t mind a quieter ship. I’m most interested in seeing landscapes and wildlife as I’ve recently taken up photography as a hobby.  Both Patagonia and Antarctica are bucket list trips for me, so I’m wondering if I should do a separate Antarctica cruise at a later date.  These are the 2 itineraries, does anyone have any thoughts?

It was 15 m/s wind in Geiranger today the port agency told the local newspaper and they decided together with the pilot and captain to remove the seawalk because of safety reason. The ship left early.

That isn’t what we were told on board. We were told the motor to the sea walk broke and they couldn’t get it to work right in the wind. They then said the wind made tendering not possible and we couldn’t wait for sea walk to be fixed because wind was affecting the ship moorings making it unsafe. But the initial issue was with the sea walk not working.

  7. I somewhat understand the issue and anger for paying more for less (the Disney fans say the same thing all the time), though none of these changes bother me in the least.  And maybe I’m wrong about this (though I doubt it) but most passengers on a cruise are first or only a few timers. Unlike the folks who frequent this message board, most will not notice or care about the changes to 1/day service. Which means the complaints will only come from a few, and Royal won’t care. The head of Disney once outright said the company caters to the first time cruiser or park-goer, because they tend to splurge more. I don’t think the complaints will change anything and if you decide not to go, they’ll find a first-timer to take your spot.

  8. This is ridiculous.  I have my first booked trip on RC this year and this, in conjunction with poor customer service while trying to book my cruise for my extended family (5 rooms on the Anthem), makes me wish we were cruising on Norwegian again.  I already have a very negative view on RC customer service. Hope I’m wrong.  Hope you get adequately compensated for the inability to sleep in your own room.
