  1. Thanks all for you response!

I got it, it's due to the 2 (penthouse) suite that come with two bedroom.

So lower berths is the standard double occupancy base on number of beds.

However, over 80% of World dream cabins come with third (sofa turn bed) and fourth (Pull down); that mean its higher berths (number not publish) around 5000 range.

For those not familiar, World dream belong to Dream Cruise, under Genting group. She have another ship, Genting dream, currently homeport Singapore year round. Both ships' new and huge, around 151t.

  2. I am about to embark on Dream Cruise - World Dream and was wondering about its terminology.

From official brochure, i found the following:

    > Stateroom: 1,686

    > Guest Capacity: 3,376 lower berths.

    https://info.dream***************/en/cruise-ship/pdf/WDR_Brochure_Ver1.1_EN_Preview.pdf

Initially i thought its just mean double occupancy, however 1686*2 give 3372, so where's the missing four?

What does lower berths actually mean?

  3. Recent on news a lady finger cut off by closing door onboard her cruise from Taiwan to Ishigaki, Japan. She loss her finger as medical facility onboard isn't equipe to stitches back.

As new cruiser onboard on our very first cruise soon, I feel that's a very real and frightening scenario, especially on sea day.

Anyone know the procedure on what can we do in this kind of scenario? Will air medical evacuation response to accident or illness that's every serious but perhaps not life threatening?

  4. Hi, appreciate all of your response, thanks!

Understand with 8 family members, it's more appropriate with traditional dinning where we will avoid irregular dinner hour and also waiting time.

The downside would be `stuck` in one venue every night unless we go buffet or paid dinning. Another would be luck if we are assigned to a table of unfavourable area.

  5. Hi cruisers,

We're family of eight, first time with Princess and first time boarding Sapphire.

Within the cruise planner, we selected traditional dinning as we prefer a fixed dinner time.

Can I find out is traditional dinning offer in all five "free" dinning room, or just one?

If only one, does it mean we can't try out other (four) dinning room? What can we do if said some family members like to try other dinning room? (Do we have to change our option to Anytime dinning instead)?

    Thanks in advance.:)

  6. That's the syrup stuff on the older ships.

I consider it nasty unless it's ice cold with cream & sugar + some ice cream in it.

I'm definitely not the person to rate it since I like my coffee weak anyway.

    Some people do tolerate it.

Thanks. In this case, I guess I'll need to purchase the coffee card to get myself dripped coffee.

  7. The free coffee on the Regal & Royal and I assume the Majestic is dripped coffee & available in the Horizon buffet all the time. They changed from the syrup stuff since it wasn't the most popular but still continue to serve it on the older ships.

If you get it from the IC during the day the'll give it out unlimited if you have a current coffee card and before 6 AM even without a current card. If your coffee card is old they might punch it even for the dripped coffee, sometimes not.

It's definitely an improvement over the syrup stuff but still as good like the specialty coffee's.

    Wow, thank!

    What about this, https://ibb.co/jyy4bR

    Buffet restaurant, found online

    Is it dripped or syrup?

  8. Thanks!

My friend told me milkshake is available (Taiwan roundtrip in August) on Sapphire.

However, i read on this forum Princess discontinued Shakes/Malts in as of Oct 2017.

That's just too bad! When I booked back in May, I was told it's available.

I would have prefer if Princess discontinued for all booking (not boarding) after Oct, so that not to affect those booking make before this date.

  9. Hi, i'll be boarding Sapphire Princess roundtrip Singapore next month.

There's little information about her, even her itinerary today in unknown.

By the way, back to the main answer, for Unlimited Soda & More Package, do i get the following

    1) milkshake and smoothies

    2) float (as in ice-cream on top) on said root beer

    3) Fresh juices( if no, whats the different and advantages as all passengers entitle to juices in MDR every morning)

I try to call in and unfortunately, they give conflicting info, or simply ask me to check on board.

In fact, they cant answer me whether cruise planner reservation is in USD or SGD.

    Anyone know, kindly advise, thks!

  10. Do you think it's possible that the whole company re-strategize their concept from a casino cruise line to mainstream? Would they consider changing the purpose and layout of the ships to come after World Dream?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    Yes and no.

You can guess from Gemini reposition. SC in SG is purely comp. It can't sustain for alot of reason. So it hope GD can attract mainstream, families, etc while retaining its existing VIP from Gemini.

If Gemini remain, then we know GD is focusing on standard cruise vacation, aka mainstream. Now with confirmed Gemini reposition , it proof GD is still toward casino focus.

  11. I don't think GD will do well in Singapore either. But with the very low load for their 5N cruise they have to try something else. Presently SC Gemini in SG is not doing well. When I was there in Feb. there was less than 50% load. And this is on their 3N cruise. For GD with the 5N cruise for SG I think they would face the same situation.

It may be they have an identity problem. How to transition from a casino cruise ship company to a mainline cruise ship company. I am not sure if they can make this transition. Both because of the ingrain public perception of them as a casino company and their own marketing and operational changes to a cruise ship company.

All this at a time when their World Dream is coming to market in several months time.

Hmm... SC Gemini reposition to TH in fall. So likely mean GD permanently replacing it. I guess genting market SG to be the `premium` market and relocate Gemini to source new income

  12. They've already screwed up their initial target market for now, when they are supposed to homeport in China and can't. I think they're just slow with the marketing after having to reshuffle the ship. A few weeks back Dream cruises featured on ST's front page with the new itineraries. It's not a surprise if they don't sell well when Genting Dream's Singapore homeport season starts.

Why Dream got lockout from China market?

  13. thus far, dream cruise Singapore homeport doesnt have any promotion.

When you compare to heavy promotion from RCCL Ovation, Princess cruise and rock bottom price offer by Costa, Dream doesn't stand well.

True, dream cruise is targeting the premium market but i believe after the initial batch, Dream might encounter difficulties attracting new customers and fighting market share

  14. What's there to do in the port at North Bali then?

I guess we can a take reference from other liners going to north bali, example silversea.

    excursion likely include singaraja.

stopover about 11 hours, so guess we might see Pura Ulun Danu Beratan

However, Dream shouldn't start selling without all the important details, like excursion detail out first.

This give cruisers the impression planning and management is not organize.

  15. Seabourn and Silversea are definitely for the luxury market, usually older cruisers, not targeting families. Princess is considered a bit more premium than RCCL or Carnival, but still have programs for families with young children. But they do cost more, and they are market driven: If the market will pay double what RCCL charges, then they will charge that much. I can't speak for Costa as they don't market in the US even though they have ships in the Caribbean in the winter. EM

    Thks a lot.

We're cruising with RCCL Voyager real soon.

We like to try princess but the price put us off.

However, if the experience is good, we might just squeeze alittle for the more premium princess

  16. Hi, we're new to cruising and curious with different cruise company target market segment. We hope to understand more.

In my country - Singapore, for example, RCCL is famous for "family".

Onboard activities such as rock climbing and dreamwork all proof its targeting families with children. It's also competitively price.

Seabourn and Silversea, easily identify from its high sail price is targeting the ultra-rich.

What about Princess cruise and Costa?

Especially Princess; in my country, Princess usually X2 the price of RCCL given similar itinerary.

    Hope anyone can enlighten us.

    Thks!

  17. We have stayed in 1688 twice on Mariner which is also a Voyager class ship. I too do not like to look straight down to the water, almost get a vertigo feeling. In 1688, you look down at the railing of the balcony below and then the steel structure of the back of the ship. I do not have issues standing at the railing in that cabin. I have a much harder time standing at the railing of a side facing balcony.

    Hi reallyitsmema, thks.

That's exactly how my wife feel. I'm okay but if given a choice, i would opt for a balcony that doesn't look down directly to the ocean.

  18. There is structure all the way down. There isn't a straight down view to the ocean. A great cabin as it's about the same size of a JS for a d1 price.

    Hi Beachammo, thanks! :)

After visiting this forum, i found out aft cabin, especially 1688/1388 are highly sought after. Unfortunately (or fortunately!), in asia - Singapore, aft cabin are not popular.

Take our cruise, coming May on Voyager for example, it's almost fully book across all categories and the remaining those cabins at the far end.

  19. This is a video from the Adventure of the Seas (Voyager Class). Will be exactly the same as Voyager.

Hi Beachammo, thks for the link! :)

This video show just about everything and clear any doubt one have on this cabin.

However, i cant judge from this video what's below the balcony. Whether is it another balcony or ship structure or the sea, especially along all point.

  20. Hi cruiser, like to ask those stay before in deck 10 cabin 1688/1388. On the balcony and all points along the balcony, if you look down, is it another stateroom balcony or ship structure or it's the sea? .

I'm asking because my wife afraid of directly (vertical drop) facing the sea.

I'm looking at aft cabin in hoping to minimise this symptom.

    Thks in advance!:)
