  1. I sailed 4 years ago mid December out of NYC on the Breakaway and weather was great no snow going or coming home. I had a little choppy seas on the last day before getting back in NYC. Had sunny cool day leaving. Taking the same cruise this December I hope I get the same weather I am taking 2 first timers with me. Just looked at the weather history and it was 66F when in NYC the day we left.

  2. Please do not hate me to much but I am a Pepsi guy have been my entire life. And the Funny thing is my Uncle worked for Coke. The entire family except him and my Grandmother are Pepsi drinkers, I count NCL Pepsi as a 6th perk.

  3. For the Dec 13 cruise to the Bahamas I got a small cabana for $399  3 of us went in on it so it was only $133 each person. The dumb thing I did was I charged and paid for it I forgot about my $50 credit so I hope after we have our GSC day they add $50 of OBC to my account I will find something to spend it on.

  4. I sailed out of NYC in December and it was no problem I have lived in different parts of NJ from south to Central and even north for college and March can be a crazy month. We have had blizzards in March which I really hope is not the case for you. Most of the times I just hope to make it snow free by the Ides of March (15th) but we have gotten snow and cold as far as tax day in April. Just keep an eye on the weather.

before. We currently have Moderno, Cagney's, La Cucina and Teppanyaki booked. I need to eliminate one, which would you choose? Thanks!!

I would drop Moderno  I loved Cagney's and Teppanyaki but do realize the show it a bit different on the ocean for Teppanyaki do to fire rules but still really great. Moderno was just too much for me and I am a big guy that loves steak and beef some of it was good some was just so so.

  6. They did it in 2001 on the old Norwegian Sea a small ship I was on that did NY to Canada. Back then they even had a hotdog cart on the pool deck. The cookout was great just a bit hard to get a med rare burger off the grill they had orders well done only.

  7. When I was on the  Breakaway I had the soda package the first day I was given a promo pepsi cup with a lid and used it all week the wait staff just filled it when I handed it to them at the bar and in the dinning room. I still have the cup.

Everyone's situation is different. On my next cruise, my cabin is nowhere near the Garden Café. The sink water is purified but not filtered. It can run to a scary green at times, just search for the photos others have posted. I have to have water next to my bed and first thing in the AM for medications. I am happy to pay for the 1 liter bottles delivered to my room, ready in my refrigerator when I want it. Would I be happier if it cost less? Of course, but just like a theme park, I've volunteered to be a captive audience. The one year I tried to go without ordering, I ended up dehydrated and sick. Not doing that again!

I understand your concern I have a sister I believed filled the ocean with dam plastic bottles and I am taking her on her first cruise she almost had a heart attack when she found out about the BOTTLED water cost. I told her it is easy to take care of I was ordering her a Britta Water bottle that filters the water. She worried what about at night. I said very easy have your room steward put a bucket of ice in your room and place your Britta bottle in it. You will have water and the fish will have a home with less plastic in it. I am sorry but anyone over the age of 50 has had tap water and worst we use to even drink from a garden hose and look we are ALIVE.

  9. Mine is kind of a one sided opinion  I have only cruised NCL starting back in 2001 they were the first with the freestyle concept and that is what hooked me. Now every line is trying to do some form of it. Now my Aunt is a Carnival person and from what I have heard from her and read it is way to much of a party boat for me. I prefer a vacation at my own pace. I even attended the Art Auction and brought a few pieces when it was lower price point. As far as specialty dining I do see the price increase but I still like the deal you can always pick it as your perk if you are in the right level cabin for 3 meals on a 7 day sailing. The food In the MDRs to me was very good and I never seen any wild over the top party people acting out on the cruise. so I like NCL as my Aunt keeps trying to get me to change.

Any opinions on sailings back to destinations previously visited?

I have another sailing that I need to book for next year. I've been to Bahamas a few times, I went to cozumel a few years ago, and most recently went to the East Caribbean.

I was thinking that I would want to travel on one of the newer ships like Bliss or Encore. Unfortunately, I would not be able to do a west coast trip, a repositioning trip, a canal cruise, or anything over 7 days.

I'm thinking that limits me to places I've been before, so I thought I would see what opinions there are on revisiting the same destinations again.

Funny you should ask this question. I already did the Bahamas 7 day cruise out of NY on the Breakaway and this December I am doing it again but for two main reasons. 1) New ship the Bliss I want to see this ship it sounds really nice. 2) Taking my sister and cousin on their first cruise so I am willing to do a repeat visit to the same ports.

I see people raving about Cagney's on the boards, But, I was on the Epic and was disappointed in Cagney's, the food was just OK and the service was not good.  I admit, I was expecting something more similar to the food and atmosphere at the Steakhouses on Princess and Carnival (more like Morton's on land), so maybe I started with the wrong expectations.

My question is, I'm now going on the Breakaway and I'm wondering if all Cagney's are the same or do you think that some ships are better than others?  Maybe we just went on a bad day?  I'd like to give it another shot on a different ship if it might be better.

    Thanks!

My only experience with Cagney's was on the Breakaway  and I enjoyed it so much I ate there twice. But I have also dined at Ruth Chris in Atlantic city  (my son owes me a Morton's dinner) Cagney's is great but not on the level of Ruth or Morton's for me it sits a lot higher then  Long Horn steakhouse but below the others. I really enjoyed it and plan on trying it on the Bliss this year. As far as servers go that can be luck of the draw. When I went the second time they recalled my name right away and all was great.

  12. it was my first cruse it was 2001 June NY to Canada we were in the dinning room and one of the serving carts all of a sudden rolled a crossed the room and slammed to a stop as the ship Norwegian Sea made a sudden move or turn my wife and I just looked at each other but letter laughed about it. I was already trying to figure out where our muster station was.

The next I was home watching the news and saw a Norwegian ship was hit broad side by a rouge huge wave we would have been on that cruise but had canceled due to change of jobs.

But all is good next cruise no problems

  13. How are the 14th floor mid-ship balconies on the -Away class ships? You're directly beneath the buffet, so how loud is it?

Also, it looks like there's a larger overhang on those balconies than lower floors. I assume that just means extra shade (which is fine with me), but any other drawback?

I was on the BA in Dec. 2015 mid ship balcony deck 14 and will be again in 2018. I had no noise problem at all and I am not a heavy sleeper. I will say the Balcony is on the small side but I since I traveled alone it was not a problem.

  14. What I forgot is not really a big deal but for me it was a very silly oversight I was on a cruise to the Bahamas and I forgot to Pack a hat. No biggy right except for years I collect hats and have 200 to 300 hats now I have 1 more I had to buy one as soon as we hit the beach.

  15. You took my post the totally wrong way. My point was if you are happy with your room then don't read these posts because you will be lured into the Haven and the expenses of the haven and a balcony will never be good enough again.

There was no need to jump on me like that.

Then I offer you an apology for my reply. Yes I do enjoy the balcony room just trying to find the draw of the Haven and the difference in the experience. [emoji1] [emoji1] [emoji1] all is good

  16. Haven provides a level of service that's a class above the rest of the ship. Within the Haven itself, you are effectively royalty. Between the Butler and Conceirge, they will bend over backwards to accommodate your every request - from in-room dining, to special meal requests at the Haven dining room, first in/first out treatment at shows, embarkation, disembarkation, tendering.

It really is something special. But I think the "general population" experience is pretty good, too, so the deal has to be right to get me in there.

Thank you I think if I was traveling as a couple or family there maybe more value in it for me.
