  1. Unlike the other major cruise lines, NCLH does NOT pay a dividend.  I have stock in those other companies as well as NCLH and the dividends are great additions to my retirement income.  I wish NCLH paid the dividend.

  2. I always use a TA.  Find one who specializes in or has a lot of experience cruising.  They are a wealth of information and answers to all of your questions.

Most important, however, is that if there are any problems, situations, delays, missed flights, etc., the TA can help.

We were stuck in San Juan when we couldn't get home to NJ due to a blizzard.   We were able to get a hotel in San Juan and a flight to DC the next day.  But we couldn't get back to NJ for several more days (flights had only standby available and Newark Airport wasn't opened yet).  Our TA get us a hotel in DC and reservations on a train to Newark, NJ.  Help to alleviate the stress having someone to make these reservations for us and help us get home. (to 28 inches of snow).

For clarification, it helps to differentiate "Singles Cruises" and "Solo Cruise". Solo is when you go on your own. Singles Cruise is a group travel thing where everyone in the group is single.

So I'm not sure if I agree with the statement "Most people on this forum are simply going solo"

I have done both - traveled "Solo" (by myself without a roommate) and as part of  "Singles Group" where we had a host, ate together, had private activities planned by our hosts.  Some of the groups were as few as 50-60 people and some were much larger (300 or more).  The largest group I was with was 300 for Halloween (the most popular with the singles group I travel with).  I have heard that there were some Halloween Singles groups that were over 500.  Too many for me.  The 300 was also too many.

Did you have to do some significant gambling on your previous cruise in order to get the email offers? My guess is these discounted offers are probably associated with cruises usually 7 days or less in an inside or window cabin. In other words, you probably wouldn't see Princess offer Casino Rate discounts on mini-suites on 14+ day cruises.

When you gamble in the casino on a ship, you are rated based on your bet and how long you are sitting at the table; or using your sign and sail card in the slot machines.  The offers are for $s off and or casino free play on a future cruise.    You get the money off when you book through the cruise line's casino office.  There is a promotion number listed on the offer.  Doesn't matter what type of room you book.  However, free rooms go to the those who spend a lot of money in the casino and are usually insides - although you can pay the difference.  However, I have met people who get free balconies or suites - but these people gamble thousands of dollars at each sitting.

  5. I have gone on several 'singles' cruises.  They are groups on the cruise ships and are organized by travel agents.  There are a couple of travel agents who specialize in singles groups; but I can't mention their names on this site.  We have our own private parties on the ship in one of the lounges.  We eat dinner (and possibly breakfast and lunch) together.  There are private activities on sea days.

They are lots of fun.  I have been on 9 so far (two have been cancelled due to COVID-19).

  6. Just got back from my first European Cruise (Baltics) and I went solo. I did two Carnival cruises solo; but this one was major.

I was anxious at first - especially since I have never been to Europe. But, I had a BLAST!!!! Awesome trip. Met lots of wonderful people and had a very memorable experience.

Therefore, I have booked the Emerald Princess r/t Barcelona for next June. Will go solo unless I find a roommate.

    Debbi :D

  7. I'm going solo on the Regal Princess next month r/t Copenhagen to the Baltics.

Just yesterday, I booked Emerald Princess Rome to Barcelona via Greece in June 2019 (Great OBC for a balcony and it's all mine unless I find a roommie!).

  8. Been reading about some of the ships not requiring to bring your life vest to the muster drill.

Has it gone fleet wide yet? Anyone recently on Caribbean Princess who can confirm Y or N on needing to bring them? Just curious, NP bringing, just easier without. :)

I was on the CP end of October. Yes. We had to not only bring our life jackets but we had to practice wearing them properly
