  1. We had originally planned on booking an interior W/ Obstructed view, but took too long to decide. Now, all we have available are Interiors and OV's (which I don't want to book, just something unsettling to me being that low) in my price range. I know that some people swear they sleep better, but I don't want to sleep my vacation away. Should I book the interior or look for a different cruise?
Both trips to Hawaii, we chose an interior room on deck 8, aft. (Miracle, room# 8260, both times!)

We had just gentle rocking, (think...cradle), and had a battery powered alarm clock, and no worries!

    Good luck!

  2. I am not a big drinker but want to drink a little on my cruise in 12 days. I like fruity tropical drinks. Is there anything special to Carnival that I can order?
Last trip to Hawaii, we ordered the Lava Flow...

Light rum, coconut rum, strawberries, banana, pineapple juice and coconut cream...all whirled together for a tropical taste that is creamy too!

  3. Despite what many believe on CC, it costs more to bunker water from shore than it does to make it onboard, so ships will only load water in port if the itinerary does not allow sufficient time at sea to make all the water needed. Water loaded in port, must be certified, within the last month, to meet either EPA or WHO standards for safe drinking water, and this test must have been done at the hydrants being used to load water, not a generic municipal water board report. Further, the water is chlorinated to 4ppm (typically higher than all municipalities) before it goes into the ship's tanks. Then, the water must be kept segregated, and not used, until a coliform bacteria test on the water comes back negative, and this takes 18-24 hours.

The difference between the water in your cabin sink and the water in the dining room or buffet is that in the latter locations, as well as the bar guns and ice makers, there are carbon filters on the equipment to filter out the chlorine, because the chlorine can form scale in the equipment (not for taste improvement). The water circulating around the ship (and unlike municipalities, the water is in constant circulation, not stagnant in underground pipes until you turn on the tap) must be constantly chlorinated until there is a residual chlorine content of 0.5ppm at the furthest point from the injection point. Your municipality chlorinates, and then sends the water into the piping system, where it sits and the chlorine dissipates naturally, so there is usually no residual chlorine in the water coming from the tap at home. You can replicate this by filling a pitcher of water from your cabin sink, and letting it stand open on the counter or in the "fridge" for a couple of hours, and the chlorine, and its taste will dissipate.

A big THANK YOU to chengkp75 for being here on this forum to clear up all the mystery, misconceptions and malarkey that come with all the wondering about what cruise ships do, or don't do, and just how things work! So good to have your professional insight to it all! Thanks again!

  4. Just throwing this out there. The last 2 cruises I have been on I have taken my sons large mixing cup that I got from walmart. He loves milkshakes and I love iced coffees. I know there is coffee shops but we like making our own. They have cartons of chocolate and white milk on the buffet and an ice cream machine. We mix what ever flavor he wants for the shake and add the ice cream and grab a cookie and crumble it on top. For the coffee I take the hot coffee and pour it over ice and add a little vanilla ice cream to it and makes a really good iced coffee.
Thank you for this! Can NOT wait to give this a try on our next cruise....(going to have to practice A LOT at home first [emoji6] )

  5. I hate to start a negative response but my vacation starts when I drop off the bags and get ready to get on board. My complaint is not dropping bags going on but those who choose carrying them off. Departing for me is stressful but having folks carrying their bags in the conga line with all the attached items they purchased. Which slows down the line is my complaint.

  6. What is the purpose of a comment like this? This woman had a problem and coming here to talk about it is completely acceptable. She didn't whine but merely conveying what was obviously an atypical problem. Geesh, why can't people be nice?

I'm always so grateful for the help I get. Thank you to all of you who have so nicely answered my questions and complaints without snark.

THIS...exactly.. I don't know why people feel the need to berate others...

Like you, I am very grateful for all the folks on this forum who help me with answers to my questions and give all of us a heads up to certain situations, whether it's the norm or not.

Original OP, sorry you went thru that and I hope Carnival clears things up.

    Thanks for the info.
