On any cruise line you are should be fully aware what tours you are booking and travel distances involved. There are normally multiple excursions to choose from. Unfortunately some sites are inland from ports.

I found it to be reasonably easy to make reservations onboard. Of course you might have to be flexible with times or the day.

I've been in the same situation. Not only camera bags but wallets and handbags. I would first consider the location (country) of the snorkel trip. Second I would specifically ask a crew member to watch your gear. Lastly I would inventory my gear immediately once back in the boat.

If you are referring to Geiranger, the answer is yes you will be sailing in daylight coming and going--and it is gorgeous. They don't call the cruise "Midnight Sun" for nothing; good thing the cabins have room darkening curtains. We were in Geiranger on July 1, barely two weeks after the equinox. Sunrise was around 4 am and sunset was around 11pm. Even after the sun has dropped below the horizon, it doesn't really get dark. You will eat dinner in daylight for most of the cruise--and it will still be light out as you walk out of the theater after the show.
If you go to https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/ , you can look up sunrise and sunset times for each of the ports on your cruise.
PS. Thank you for the link. Have you also seen Tom's Port Guides?
Wow another great guide.
Thank you

I'm a diver and never get sick on a boat but have many times while diving. A dive off the shore would be worth a shot but off a boat probably not so much.

Considering it's only a day I wouldn't be concerned. As a previous poster mentioned, there are many attractions outdoors or that will be open. Most importantly most osteria and trattoria restaurants will be open serving wonderful local cuisine.

Interested x 3. :-)

Thanks for the heads up, watched it and really enjoyed the program.

What currency?? Euros?
And what about money for using the bathrooms in the towns? I know on the river cruises, we needed a euro in order to use bathrooms...women only. YIKES.
Euros for both.

One man's snarkiness is another man's honesty & truth.
I'm guessing civility is somewhere in there too.

There is no need for people to be snarky to the OP.

There are a lot of cruise lines vying for our business and loyality. If you can't get reasonable satisfaction, I'd vote with my feet in the future.
-
Personally I wouldn't deal with any cruise line that canceled my confirmed cruise without satisfactory compensation. What happens to people who have already made their own arrangements for air, tours and pre/post stays?

Barcelona is a wonderful city. We stayed there for a week prior to sailing on the Star in 2015. We rented an apartment in a central location via AirB&B.

Thank for the review.

Well, this was a lively post. Good food for thought. I was a long time Ocean cruiser and thought "been there done that" - no more ocean cruises ....until my Viking River cruise last year. I just had to give Viking Ocean a try and I am headed for VH in May!! Yay.
I am optimistic and will have a Great Time.... how "great" will decide if we sign up for another.
You'll have a great time, no worries.
I loved it.

Great review, thank you for taking the time to share.

Does Viking send prior cruisers special offers, last minute offers, etc? I sailed on the Star in the past and all I get is LOTS of the same 2 for 1 mail and email offers. Thanks :-)

Don't know how much gluhwein we'll see in France.
Dang :-(

Mmm Glühwein :-)

As a previous poster mentioned, a few words like good morning, good day, thank you, etc will get you a long way. Couple that with a smile and respect and you will be golden. PS: English has been mandatory in German schools for 15+ years (I have family there).

As there is nothing in it for our friends I am too embarrassed to ask them for their reservation references- it's kind of not good form to Brits
Agree 100%, it's not good form for Yankees either.

Looked it up and it seems very nice, of course keep in mind there will be a lot of driving.
