  1. Skype is actually not going to work real well on the satellite internet. The latency will make most online conversations range from frustrating to painful. Expect long delays in conversation, weird artifacts in audio/video.

(Source: I used to work for a satellite internet provider and these are just limitations of the technology. Satellite internet is great for streaming videos but not for two-way time sensitive communication)

I used Skype last week on the Magic using the 1 MB/sec cheap plan for $55.99. It worked pretty good.

  2. I know for sure what 2217 is like. I had it on Glory to Bermuda, so was ready to book it. I didn't like the extremely loud wave slamming against the hull, though. Of course, I was in the Atlantic in October and we were really moving on the way back (2-1/2 days out, only 1-1/2 to return).

But 7345 on Conquest - seems folks have been on Verandah and Upper in these 1As and have posted pics that they have two twins; but I'm pretty sure I came across photos that show 2 twins on Glory 7345, but found an older thread that Liberty had upper/lower!

I would just expect that they would be the same in the same ship class, but now I just don't know.

If anyone has actually been in 7345 on Conquest, I'd appreciate some feedback.

Cruisestateroom has pictures of cabin 7345 for the Liberty and the Glory and those both have upper berths. Although, I admit the pictures look the same for both ships. They do not have any pictures of that cabin for Conquest.

  3. Greetings yet again.

So, although I just made final payment today for Leg 2 of my B2B and DD's cabin, I may go ahead and book Conquest on the repositioning from San Juan to Miami.

I was going to just jump on 2217 (despite the hull crashing experience on Glory), but thought I'd better check here just in case there were any other interesting cabins.

Turns out 7345 is the only one of those midship 1As available.

Of course, every site I've checked says that it is upper/lower. There's been several assurances that the other two most definitely have two beds. Doesn't really matter to me since I'm sure I won't be able to get anyone to go with me, so no climb-the-ladder issues.

I might just have to give it a try.

I hate it when I have to make these decisions! I really liked 2217, and maybe the southern Caribbean wouldn't have quite so many banging issues. But it would also be nice to try something different.

Still, I'd like to see photos of 7345.

I agree 2217 has a twin bed and a couch that converts to a twin. It also has 2 portholes. I would take this one in a heartbeat

7345 has a twin bed and an upper berth. The cabin looks like an odd size but larger than a regular cabin. We have stayed in one like this and there is lots of floor space but one less closet. I bring a twin air mattress when we stay in an upper berth 1A.

I had a Marriott Barcelona question also.

I assume you stayed at the Marriott by the Airport. Did they have free transportation to the cruise terminal? I know they have a free shuttle bus into town. How much was the taxi in to town? How was the hotel?

Also, you said Rome in Limo offered a discount if you booked a Limo in more than one city. I could not find anything on their website that said anything about.

I am really excited about using RIL. Did you do anything in advance to collect money from the other people in your group? I am nervous about booking a Limo for 8 and then have one or more people no show on me.

    Thanks

  5. Hello, My hubby really likes Pepsi with his meals. Carnival only sells coke. Can he bring a can of Pepsi into the dining room to drink with his meal or would that look tacky and frowned upon? Don't want to look rude but he would prefer Pepsi instead of buying a coke.

No problem. I do it all the time. I have even made my own mixed drink and brought it into the dining room.

I bring canned sodas into the theater for the evening show also.

  6. We have done MANY cruises that stopped in Cozumel and have always used Aldora Divers. In fact, we spent a week in Cozumel a few years back and used them then, as well. We've always been very happy with them. Like the small boats, the big tanks, the long bottom time and the surface interval at Mr. Sanchos, rather than on the boat.

That said, I have heard people mention Eagle Ray Divers a lot. I'm curious what they are like? May be willing to try them if there is a compelling reason. Has anyone used both Eagle Ray and Aldora? For those that have used Eagle Ray, do you like them and if so, why???

I used Aldora Divers one time and did not have a good experience.

They brag that they use Steel 100s and have really long dive times so I thought I would give them a try. The divemaster called the dive after 30 minutes and didn't even check to see how much air everyone had left. I had over 2000 psi left.

    I was not very happy.

  7. Question for any one who has gone to Grand Turk, I have heard that you can rent golf carts there, if you can is it worth it, and if it is do you know where or how to reserve a golf cart?

    Please help.

You can't get a reservation for a golf cart. It is first-come first-serve but I doubt the demand will be so high that they run out.

Just walk down the road that leaves the cruise terminal and the people that rent them are just outside the gate.

There isn't much to see on the island itself. They still have a lot of damage from the last hurricane. The cruise terminal is very nice and they have a lot of shops and bars there. Grand Turk is a great place to go SCUBA diving or snorkeling.

  8. i just moved up from r54 on the fantasy to e181. im glad to read that it is quiet . i do better at the back of the ship and i love being a little higher up. i am so glad to get the new cabin. it will be my first time on the fantasy and go to the caribbean. i cant wait for the next 37 days to go by :D.

We had E181 on our last cruise on the Fantasy on 6/22

It was a very nice room. It was pretty big also. They could have fit a full size bed in there.

It has a fake window with drapes

The upper bunk was pretty hard

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures of the room.

  10. We have been to Half Moon Cay and did not rent a cabana. I don't feel like we missed anything.

We took the snorkel excursion and swam in the water on the beach.

The only bad thing about Half Moon Cay was the really long line waiting for the tender to get back to the ship. It took over an hour and it was hot.

  11. I saw a special kind of hot dog on a Food Network show.

The bun is round like a cylinder. You put your condiments inside and then slide your hot dog in. Then they cook it in a round cooker.

I think it is sold some place on Oahu but I don't remember where

Does anyone else know where I can find this unique hot dog?

As I was typing this, I did a google search and I think I found it. It is called a Puka Dog
