Thank you Euro Cruiser & Kricket73! I appreciate your input!

My thought is that the cruise ships hire local buses/shuttles or contract through existing agencies, all of whom are affiliated with the striking unions. I may be wrong with this thought.

Oh what rotten luck! Keep checking to see if it is called off or moved to another date -- it happens with some frequency.
Here is a page from the Civitavecchia port website with things to do in and around Civitavecchia. Not all of them are walkable but maybe they'll provide some ideas:

Thank you, cruisemom42!

I would love comments on what happens when your ship is planned to port on a day that has been announced for a nationwide transportation strike of trains, taxi & bus. Our ship is scheduled to visit Civitaveccia on Oct. 20, 2023. A general nationwide public & private transportation strike has been announced/posted for that day. Anyone experienced this recently? I know there have been numerous transportation strikes lately in Italy. I do not belive this is a strike of the port authority workers, just bus/train/taxi.

We are scheduled to port at Civitaveccia on Oct. 20th. There is a national transportation strike for (if I'm reading it right) public & private transportation. Both train & bus/taxi. I'm very interested in what to do within walking distance from the ship in this port, as our hopes of making it to Rome are seeming to dwindle.

Enjoying your review! Thanks for all the info & pics. Looking forward to being on Symphony in November! We were also offered a Royal up that I'm going to try for.

Same with my Nov. 13 cruise that opened up this morning. And I was online by 5:15am. Since I've never checked in online with assigned boarding times before, I was also wondering if I needed to sign our whole party in at once? Our grandson is sailing with us. I'm afraid to not check us all in at once because of the timed boarding. Anyone out there with experience of assigned times?

Sue - I did the L&S thing in August too for my November 2020 cruise to November 2021. I just emailed my TA about the same thing. It is showing that I'm on the new cruise for next year when I sign on to RCCL, but I don't want a big surprise next August when I have to pay for the thing.

I'm in the same "boat" (pun intended). Does L & S have to be the same ship? Current reservation is 11/15/2020 on Oasis Neighborhood Balcony, 7 day, Eastern & Perfect Day. Can I L & S to 11/13/2021 on Symphony, 7 day, Eastern & Perfect Day?

We booked Dunns River Falls with Phil Lafayette out of Ocho Rios . He was great. Air conditioned van. About 10 of us on the van. Very knowledgeable. Felt safe the entire time. We also floated the White River after the falls before heading back to the ship. Highly recommend this personable native tour guide.

Thanks so much for sharing! We have the same port lineup as you end of October. Can you comment on the seaweed problem that I've seen on some posts for Cozumel?
