  1. We're in the beginning stages of planning a cruise/tour and looking at the itineraries online, I don't see times associated with any of the ports or land portion of the journey. I've not sailed with HAL yet so I may not be looking in the proper spot? Time in port is a bit of a decision maker so I could use some help. If anyone's familiar, we're looking at the R5L Seattle Yukon & Denali Land & Sea Journey.

In order to see the itinerary with times at port, go and look at the cruise only itinerary for the same date that the cruise portion of your cruise begins. Unfortunately, HAL doesn't post a detailed time itinerary on their cruisetours. I hope this helps.

  2. Food was a cut above the rest within the fleet, IMO. Check out my "Conclusions & Last Thoughts" post within this thread for more: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=52758447&postcount=56

Yes, the food on Empress was very good. Windjammer was clean and constantly taking out fresh food, the salads were so good. Overall, great food experience.

  3. Is Empress going to permanently sail from Tampa? Or will it go back to Miami at some point? Voyager-class blows Empress out of the water. Just would be nice to see more alternatives on the 4 day itinerary from Miami. As long as they don't jam pack Voyager-class with cabins sea day should be great.

Empress will be back in Miami November 2017.

  4. All Bahamas or any Labadee/KW?

I've done 4 nighters on CCL with KW and Cozumel.

Hoping RCI just has some alternating routes. I'd hop on and off Voyager class all the time for getaways but can only take so much Nausea. Nassau. .

I am waiting for the formal public release, but it looks like it will be taking over Enchantments scheduled sailings from the notification I received earlier today.

  5. Let's see how close I am two and a half years later; if there is alternating Labadee routes, if there are sea days, and if there will not be KW visits now that Voyager class is going to short Miami cruises.

With alternating A and B itins it makes B2B's with a 3 day that much more interesting and filling the ship more feasible. IMO.

It will be Mariner replacing Enchantment starting June 2018 with 3-4 night Bahamas

  6. Where did you see about Galveston?

I work in the travel industry and we got a notification today regarding Enchantment moving to Galveston and the sailings currently schedule on Enchantment from June 2018 on, will be on the Mariner of the Seas. There should be more info coming out to public soon.

  7. Yes, but they only go through December 2017. Nothing beyond that has been released.

That is correct! Since the inaugural sailing with Empress left today, we will have to see how it goes. Cuban government has to give approval before new sailings are released.

  8. I am currently on Allure, and my family of five is staying in two adjoining boardwalk balcony cabins. We are on Deck 9, almost all the way at the end. We love these cabins and this location!

The door that adjoins the cabins is right by the entrance doors, across from the bathrooms. We kept this open all the time, except in the morning, when we had an awake room and a sleeping room. As soon as we arrived, our cabin steward offered to remove our partition between the balconies, so we were connected there too.

I was worried there wouldn't be enough space for all of our stuff, but there was plenty. There is very limited drawer space, but if you look beyond that, you will find lots of other places to put things. Bring as much on hangers as you can, as there is lots of hanging space in the closet. There are also some shelves in the closet. As I had read on Cruise critic, our suitcases fit nicely under the bed.

We all loved the boardwalk view from our balcony, and we all agreed we liked it better than an ocean view balcony. If you just enjoy peace and quiet, then pick ocean view. But we loved being able to watch all the activity of the Boardwalk, the Aqua Theater (there is more that goes on there than just the Aqua show), the climbing walls, and a nice ocean view between the Aqua Theater and the climbing wall too. I was worried Deck 9 might be too close to the Boardwalk, but we liked it. I think Deck 10 might be perfect, but there weren't any adjoining rooms close to the back.

I agree with others on Cruise critic who have said to get a cabin (Boardwalk balcony) as far aft as possible. Note that the cabin on the end doesn't have a wrap around view. They still have the same opaque divider on the side at the end. But you get more of an ocean view closer to the end and can see the aqua theater better.

Yes, it's a long walk down the hallway. I counted 100 steps from the aft elevator bank to our cabin doors. We didn't mind the walk at all, but we were really glad to be aft on the ship, because almost everything we did was aft (Windjammer, Main Dining Room, Boardwalk, Flow Rider, zip line, etc.). Once you get to the aft elevators/stairs, you are close to most everything. If you really don't like to walk, get a room as close to one of the elevator banks as possible.

Each balcony has two chairs and a small table. The railing of the balcony was between chest and stomach height on me when I was standing, but it was right across the horizon at eye level when I was sitting, so I'd have to slouch down to see where the water met the sky. I brought clothespins to pin swimsuits to the chairs to dry, but it never got that windy on the boardwalk balconies, even when it was extremely windy on the upper decks, so clothespins weren't really needed.

I wear earplugs to sleep when I travel, so I can't tell you if there was noise from the boardwalk at night. My kids say they didn't hear it, but maybe they just didn't notice.

We had three people in one of our rooms, so we used the pull out couch. Our cabin steward set it up for us every evening when we were at dinner and put it back to a couch in the morning. When it was open, there was very little space in the room. You have to wedge your self around it to get out the balcony door.

We also had the Eat Drink Play package - I wrote some random thoughts on that in a separate post.

Thanks for your thoughts! We booked a boardwalk balcony room (10327) on Allure for August 2018. We have the second to last balcony. I really look forward to the views, I guess you can say it is the best of both worlds.

  9. Did the OP really complain about cold eggs on the buffet? Scrambled eggs are usually awful in any buffet, be it on sea or land. Prepared eggs don't age well and the temperature of the freshly-cooked eggs in a metal bin means you'll get condensation and wet eggs (yuck!). Either hit the omelette station (if there is one) or grab a slab or two of ham for your protein.

There is an omelet station right past that area in the buffet towards the middle. The food was constantly on rotation so I had no issues with eggs. The OP is actually making a complaint from someone they know that went on the cruise, they themselves were not in the cruise.

  10. I was on Empress with my family on 3/23-3/27. We were caught in a storm the first night, but that is not the ships fault more would I give the ship a bad review because of it. Anytime between January and April can have bad weather off the Florida coast or Caribbean due to winds. Other than the bad weather the first night, we had an amazing time and food was great. I didn't experience the stench the I have seen people complain about, maybe people didn't back up the sanitary system while I was on board, we were the lucky sailing, I guess. Food was good, not bad but it 5 star restaurant but what do really expect from a cruise. Overall our experience was great and but not everyone is the same. You will always have that one person that will compare every situation to something.
