We used shipboard credit for the occasional cocktail in the lounge and all of our optional excursions. Additionally, we were able to purchase discounted vouchers for future travel ($100 for a $200 vouchers). We asked, but were told that shipboard credit cannot be used for crew tips!

We had a wonderful 1st time Viking River Cruise (Kara Amsterdam to Basel 3/26-4/02) and dinner was a great way to relax and re-group after a busy day ashore. By the 2nd night, we'd ended up with a friendly group of 2 other couples and had dinner with them for the rest of the cruise. We skipped most of the Cruise Director's presentation, as the daily newsletter was clear on the following day's activities. I, too, saw no value in the Silver Spirits Package, as the prices for drinks at the bar are very reasonable and the wine/beer flowed freely at lunch and dinner.

Hello - Traveling from Amsterdam to Basel on Viking Kara in 5 days!!! We are huge Wisconsin Badger fans and have our fingers crossed our team will make it to the NCAA Elite 8 🏀 The game will be shown on TBS or CBS; obviously the time will be late night/early morning. Do any of you have info on what channels are available on the ship. Thanks and ON WISCONSIN 😀

Hi All - Apologizing in advance if I'm posting in the wrong thread ;) We are sailing Viking Kara on Rhine River Getaway (Amsterdam to Basel) on March 26. We are flying Lufthansa Premium Economy from Chicago to Frankfurt. Wondering if anyone has flown Lufthansa Premium Economy class and has a review or thoughts on what to expect. Much Thanks - Dee:D

Hello - We are sailing Viking Kara on Rhine River Getaway (Amsterdam to Basel) on March 26, but will be spending 3 days in Amsterdam prior to embarkation. We booked air through Viking and have a quick connection time in Frankfort. My question is regarding customs/passport controls. We are traveling O'Hare-Frankfort-Amsterdam and have only 1.5 hours before our connection to Amsterdam in Frankfort. Since, Germany is a Schnegen country, will we have to go through customs or passport control before making our connection? I am assuming our luggage will be checked through to Amsterdam. Thoughts?

Yes, was researching for the friend with whom I'm traveling; he's a little OCD about planning and having just a general idea has put him at ease ;p

Hello - First-time river cruisers here! We're sailing Viking Kara, Amsterdam to Basel, March 26-April 2. I know Viking distributes the daily newsletter with daily schedules, however, I would like to know our approximate daily timetable. For example, what are our daily port arrival and departure times. We've booked our shore excursions, but those are only shown as "morning, afternoon, evening." We're interested in getting the most out of every port, thus would like to have an idea of how much time we'll have to explore on our own outside of scheduled excursions.
