  1. Wow that's great information BnWhited just what I wanted to know! What cabin are you doing to be in on the ship? Hopefully you can post an update on your return on how the overall trip went.

We will be in 8026, an inclosed balcony. It was not my choice as my TA booked it without my knowledge, I put it a low (almost minimal) upgrade offer for a mini-suite to try and escape the enclosed balcony, let's hope it gets accepted!

  2. I just received my eDocs! We will be staying 2 nights at the Ocean Shores Inn in Homer. 1 night at the Sheraton in Anchorage, 2 nights at the Denali Park Village and 1 night at the Bear Lodge Hotel in Fairbanks.

We have an open day in Homer after visiting the Alaska Islands, Ocean visitor center, and a Homer City tour the first day of the land tour.

We're scheduled to arrive at our hotel in Anchorage at 6:30pm leaving the evening open.

Our first day in Denali we have the evening open starting at 4pm and the second day is jam packed with the visit to the Iditarod kennel visit and Tundra Wilderness Tour (TWT for short).

We are free in Fairbanks starting at 5:30!

  3. There’s a link on my NCL page to the right of the day countdown that says download edocs. Does yours show that?

No it does not. When I click on vacation summary within My NCL there is a greyed out (un-clickable) download docs link

  4. Go back and check you didn’t miss anything ,

I have and it just says 100% complete, a notification will be sent when your eDocs are ready.

I have mine for an August 26 sailing on the Getaway.

Are you doing a cruise tour also?

  5. How long does it typically take to receive your eDocs? On NCLs website it says they are typically available 60 days out. I'm sailing on the Jewel northbound to Alaska on August 20th and doing the Authentic Alaska Cruise-tour (14-days total), and currently 33 days out and no documents yet. Curious if anyone else has had to wait so long, and if anyone has any guesses when they may become available

  6. I just looked over cruisetour docs (just realized they're not the same as edocs) NCL also uses Grande Denali Lodge and Anchorage Marriott Downtown. The two hotels I originally posted are the ones we are assigned to.

How were you able to get your cruise tour docs?

  7. I just started my land tour with NCL. The cruise director informed us that we can have one bag for the land tour and place another suitcase in storage until the night before we get on the cruise ship. This isn't the only misinformation I received from NCL.

    What is the realty then?

  8. ...

Another fun tid-bit that I like to point out is a packing list that a couple of friends have given me as gifts (they know I'm crazy about organization and packing!).

I love the "Pack This" list and always pull one out when I start to pack for a big trip. These can be found online or in store, I'm unsure of where they found it. It comes in a pack of about 30-ish.

The Container Store is currently running their annual travel sale. They have the packing cubes, envelopes, etc. I also found a great travel purse there last year.

    Enjoy Alaska!

I was looking at The Container Store's website at the travel section and noticed your checklist for sale, in case anyone would like to get it too!

  9. Just off the Jewel and for the first time we had one of the balconies all the way forward that were slightly enclosed ...I dont know what cabin class it was but it was 8034 .....we loved it !!! It had a little ledge that we could put our drinks on and the table went inside ....because it was partially enclosed we felt almost no wind at all ...we would book this one again ...

You don't by chance have a picture of the balcony area, do you? I'm sailing on the Jewel northbound leaving August 20th in 8026 and would love to know what to expect from the enclosed balcony!

  10. I have booked a 14-day Southbound Alaska Land/Sea tour for July of 2018. I am hoping someone can give me a little information regarding the places you stayed during the land portion and any other helpful tips you have. Thanks in advance!!

OP, I'm curious if you've gotten your hotel assignments yet! Going on the same 14 day tour (except northbound) in August this year. I do hope you do a review, I'd love to read it and get some insight before mine!

  11. Are you able to purchase day tours on the pier/in port in Skagway? I have no desire to take the train or bus up through white pass and instead I'm looking at the Speed Boat Fjord Discovery tour (through ShoreTrips), but that is only 3 hours leaving 9 hours left in Skagway. I would really like to go panning or up to Liarsville Gold Rush but the timing between the two excursions through either the cruise line or through ShoreTrips isn't possible.

  12. We have $900 next month on the Escape. We got $300 for booking and for the final $600 my husband kept asking for it...and finally he got it!

PCCs have the ability to give/find you OBC. Any time my husband talks to our PCC, he will ask if there is any OBC available. We booked a cruise a week or two ago, and when we did, the PCC said that he could give us an extra $600 in OBC (after my husband asked, of course). We could choose if we wanted it on the cruise we were booking or our next cruise, which is on the Escape next month. We chose to spend it on the Escape. We didn't want to have over $1,000 in OBC to spend on the Dawn when we would only have one sea day.

We do book suites, so that might have something to do with it. But mainly, it is because my husband asks for it. I don't think our PCC would have said, "Hey...here's an extra $600!" unless my husband would have brought it up.

This might be a silly question, but what is a PCC?

  13. California offers them too, thru just aren't mandated until 10/2020. My husband has to renew his license so he's in the midst of getting an enhanced license himself.

That would be awesome if they do offer them! I did a quick search and didn't see anything on California's DMV website though, so just double check when your new licenses arrive! If I had to guess its the real-ID compliant license you are getting. In Michigan, they're not mandated for flying and such until October 2020 either.

  14. Not exactly a question, I just wasn't sure where to post this.

I have noticed a lot lately here on cc confusion on the real ID act compliant license's and EDL (enhanced drivers licenses). I just wanted to take a few minutes and discuss/show the differences. As I am from Michigan, I'll use Michigan as an example. Here, we currently have six differing types of state ID's - three types of state identification cards, and three drivers licenses.

Michigan offers both real ID compliant cards and non-compliant cards.

Example of Non-compliant cards, notice the "NOT FOR FEDERAL IDENTIFICATION"

The state ID card is the exact same, but says identification Card in lieu of drivers license.

    Real-ID Act compliant example

The gold-star in the upper right hand corner is the identifier that this is Real-ID act compliant. (Also, the phrase, "Not for federal identification" is removed. The state ID is the exact same, but says identification Card in lieu of drivers license.

    REAL-ID_598638_7.png

    Enhanced State ID example

Notice the American Flag, and "Enhanced" at the top.

(This is also the general format for all minor (Under 21) state ID and Drivers license's)

    Enhanced Drivers License Example

Notice the American flag, and "enhanced".

    EDL-REAL-ID_598639_7.png

I hope when you look at the examples above, that you can see that the plain Real-ID act compliant licenses are different from the EDL (enhanced drivers licenses).

You do not need to obtain a Real-ID compliant license if you do not want too, however your driver’s license or state ID card must be REAL ID compliant if you wish to use it to fly domestically in the U.S. or enter certain federal facilities, military bases and nuclear power plants. Or, you must show alternate form of ID such as a passport.

An EDL (or state ID) is a real-ID complaint license/ID. But not all real-ID compliant licenses/ID's are EDLs. If you only possess a real-ID compliant card (meaning not an EDL), you will not be allowed to use that solely for entrance into Canada (or any foreign country).

Michigan is currently one of only five states that offers enhanced identification cards (drivers licenses and/or state identification cards). Currently, only Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington offer. The Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) (or state ID card) is a special identification card that allows people to cross into the U.S. when traveling by sea or land from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean nations without the need for a passport or other identification documents.

Unfortunately, if you live in any of the other 45 states you cannot obtain an EDL. These states only offer real-ID compliant cards, which should not be confused with EDLs.
