Its been pretty cut and dry from the start. All kids under 12 need the PCR test and they still have 3 days to do it not 2.

Until you read John Healds post which says an antigen quick test is approved for unvaccinated, and in the carnival website which says an unvaccinated individual will need an antigen test to get on the boat... Clear as mud.

Either way, I'll schedule my child a PCR and hope the results come in on time. At this time it doesn't appear to be a problem.

  2. Does anyone know if the Emed Abbots antigen test is accepted for kids under 12. The carnival website (and also John Heald Facebook post) says that unvaccinated guests need to have a PCR test, but then also states that a rapid test through Emed or Optum is accepted for all guests if completed correctly.

So what is it? Can a kid under 12 use a rapid test or does he need to go to CVS and get a PCR and hope it's back in time for embarkation?

I just returned from the Mardi Gras sailing, I had an awesome time!  Most adhered to the mask policy, there is always some that do not, there were the same ones that we saw.  I still had a great time even with all the protocols in place, I appreciate Carnvial doing all it can do to keep us safe and healthy.

Mexico was hot, but if you are on the beach, out on the deck, drinking or eating, mask is not required.

The pre testing now two days ahead for vaccinated does not bother me, CVS has a turnaround time of 1 hour for results.

I am just glad to help with safely getting back to cruising!

Cvs has an hour turn around for which test? PCR?

Unvaccinated  children bubble tours only, sorry.

That's what I figured. Thought there might have been some leniency due to the fact that my 10 year old son can't even get vaccinated yet. Bummer. Guess we will have to cancel and go to universal instead.

  5. Has anyone cruised with a child under 12 during the covid restrictions and can tell me definitively if they can leave the ship or are they banned from leaving the ship because they are technically considered unvaccinated?

I've called Carnival 2x on this and both times I got two separate answers. The first lady said my child can leave the ship with me on port days unhindered, and the other one said they can only leave of they are on a "bubble tour" and cannot deviate from said tour. Then said that if no bubble tours are available, they have to stay on the ship.

Kinda defeats the purpose of a cruise if I can't leave the boat with my kid to enjoy the ports, as they aren't offering "childcare" for under 12. Thanks in advance.

  6. I have only had to share a table one cruise, my last. My fiance and I absolutely hated it. We had to share a table with a younger couple (We are 24 and 29 yo) who all they did was brag about how much money they spend on clothes and frivolous items, or they complained about everything. We shared absolutely nothing in common with them. The second couple only showed up once the whole cruise, they seemed nice, until we shared our respective careers. Apparently telling art major college students that I was a special victims detective for the city I lived in was not what they wanted to hear....

  7. Nothing angers me more than irresponsible parents who let their kids run rampant on a cruise ship, making a mess and being annoying brats. Very few places people can go to get away from them, and now they are taking them away. SMDH. Maybe its time to cruise a different line, or stick to the ships that don't have this ridiculous change.

  8. Glad you're still going on your cruise. A few cruises ago, I tore my Tibiofibular tendon, and fractured my ankle right before the cruise. I was given a sports brace to protect it until my workplace could schedule me an appointment with a specialist. I was told to rest up and try staying off of it. I didn't listen, and walked on it for 8 days on the cruise. The brace did well, until I slipped on some water, and twisted it again, causing it to hurt for the rest of the trip. Just be careful, and have fun.

  9. Hi all,

My fiance and I will be taking a cruise out of the Port of Miami on 4/22. We are coming from Asheville, NC which is a 12 hour drive (No flying as she hates airplanes). We planned on driving down thursday night, checking in a hotel for a day, then hopping on our cruise. What Hotels do you CC'ers use in the area.

P.S. we are open to other options as well, such as booking a hotel in another city, and driving into Miami if it will save us some money. We usually drive from Charleston to Fort Lauderdale to hop on our cruises, so traveling a few hours on cruise day wont bother us. Thanks for the advise guys.

  10. Hi all,

To start, we have been very happy with Carnival in the past, and will continue to cruise with them. With that being said, we are looking to do a 10+ day cruise in the first half of 2018, and are curious about other cruise lines. We are wanting maybe a little more refinement, and a great overall experience. As the title suggests, when you guys/gals are not having fun on Carnival, who do you choose to cruise, and why?
