  1. Your total cost is usually higher. Another poster from "across the pond" sometimes runs the prices in both situations (factoring in service charges, etc.) and the "all inclusive" is higher.
I haven't been All Inclusive yet. We had to pay DSC separately but had a great deal I think on the free UBP as the menu prices were pretty high with the weak £

  2. Even though everyone (US booking) pays the service charge if they take the SDP/UBP promos, nobody is "forced" to take the promos. If they aren't wanted, don't take them to avoid the added cost. Every person is different. What is a good deal for some may not be a good deal for others.
Sounds like we get a fairer deal in the UK when Free means Free. We don't expect a deposit to be refundable so aren't put off by it. If you put down a deposit it's effectively a downpayment :-)

  3. In the UK we have a fully inclusive package that includes UBP, all gratuities, 2 bottles of water a day and 60 mins internet. $650 onboard credit when booking a Suite too in the current offer.
We booked just before Premium All Inclusive was announced with the UBP as our free perk and it was great value as drink gratuities were included. In the UK they can't advertise something as FREE and then charge you for using it. Consumer law.

  4. Man, this sucks if you are prone to cold sores........Especially if you drink out of a glass that wasn't clean fully.
Cold sores are caused by a virus you carry, if you're prone to them it's because you already have the virus and it's just flared up again, not because you've used a dirty glass.

  5. I was thinking this too, perhaps he forgot it was a bank holiday. Anyway, he promised Monday so I expect Monday. If not, then it will be an extra 24 hours until we find out whether the situation has been resolved or not.
I bet Bank Holiday weekends are busy for bookings as a little taste of freedom and good weather focuses people's thoughts on holidays.

  6. I have been on many many different cruise lines. For example I’ve been on a Cunard, a couple of Royal Carribean and MSC but also P&O. We enjoyed P&O and they had the exact ports that we were looking to visit (Athens, Venice etc.), this holiday decision was nothing to do with the cruise line. However as a returning customer, I feel like we have been let down slightly, but I’m sure the cruise will still be fine as people have reassured.

That's an informed decision but sometimes I read complaints from people who have only cruised one line and I just want to scream "stop giving them your money every time then!" Once you've tried a few it's fair enough.

  7. If the OP doesn't get the situation resolved to her satisfaction and has suitable insurance cover in place I would suggest consulting a sympathetic private GP to discus a health issue that may arise in early June. Not that I would condone such action.
Great advice - potentially spend some time in prison instead. Full board but sadly no drinks package, although I understand the "entertainment" is very different.

  8. I'm thinking this poster isn't referring to people lounging on the pool deck, but actually sitting around the edges of the actual pool, like in this photo. I still maintain that it's because the pool is too deep to actually hang out in the pool itself unless you are swimming laps or something.

Does it really get that busy? I think we must have been lucky on our Alaskan cruise.

  9. .

..all of which is why I asked the questions that I did in post #27.

If a cruise is currently $500 plus $100 in DSC, the DSC removers will remove the $100 DSC and (supposedly) give $100 in cash tips to the crew.

If/when NCL makes everything all-inclusive and the cruise fare is $600 (or more and no DSC), will the former DSC removers still give $100 in cash tips to the crew?

There shouldn't be a need to as that's already incorporated into your fare.

  10. Any Cash in Hand to any staff member they keep 100%, they do not turn it in, according to GS Director on the Sky this week.

You can modify DSC any amount you wish to, up, down, etc.

You fill out a form onboard and it is posted to your account same day.

I chose to pay cash along the way to those providing me service, I was told I could not use the modification form until the last full day of the cruise and did so. Took all of 20 seconds and posted to my onboard account that evening. No guilt, no hassle, no problem, everyone that provided us service was well compensated with cash along the way with an additional amount on top provided to our room attendant. There was a section on the form to ask if we had any deficiency in service and I wrote in honestly that service was fine, I preferred to pay cash directly. Guest Services Director confirmed that many choose to do the same. Guest services provided us envelopes and additional Vacation Hero cards at our request.

However your party decides they would like to handle their personal finance is 100% fine, one way is not more right or wrong than another. It is just whatever your preference is.

This redistributes tips just to those you met face-to-face. Doesn't seem as fair to me.
