yeah, I just checked trenitalia and it says 2.5-4..... I would suggest using trenitalia.com to purchase (in advance, as close to the schedule release as possible you can get good discounts! is it early june I think?) as that is direct from the source.....

Thanks for the information! Now I can plan properly 🙂

Train between Ravenna and Venice is 4 hrs + Not a one day quick trip from Ravenna to Venice to Ravenna.  Car is 2+hrs . Bus is 3.

Italia Rail shows approx. 3 hours. I would be going Venice to Ravenna, cruise for 7 days, then train back to Venice for flight home. I am going to check out private transport also.

Hopefully you can change your train tickets! (though I didn't realize those were on sale yet) I wouldn't want to make the trek from Rome to Venice and THEN another 2 hours to Ravenna on the same day, could you possibly go to Venice earlier from Rome and then leave sometime mid morning to get to Ravenna?

Train tickets are not available yet for that date. I have been doing all my thinking with Venice port in mind so, I will just change my plans. I haven't booked flights yet either so, I think we will fly into Venice, spend the couple days there instead of rome, take train to Ravenna, and train back to Venice for the flight home. At least I will save money on flights because now its a round trip flight instead of multi-city flights!

Maybe you don't now that the ship leaves/arrives in Ravenna which is at 2+ hours away from Venice and what you are contemplating won't work?

But, yes, you can usually drop off luggage without having to check in.

I am glad I made this post because I may have never realized that before it was too late. Thank you!

  5. Hello all! I am sailing on Explorer of the Seas out of Venice on September 24, 2023. I will be arriving in Venice from Rome via railway train around 9:30 am. Does anyone know if I am able to drop and check in my baggage before my scheduled boarding time? I want to see venice for at least a couple hours because I will be unable after deembarkation but, won't work with baggage. If anyone has any info, that would be greatly appreciated.

  6. I will be on Explorer of the Seas in September for a once in a lifetime cruise for my 70 yo mother. Our first port of call is Split, Croatia, which is where my grandfather (mother's dad) is from. Has anyone ever self toured/explored the city on your own? Maybe with a local taxi? Would this be feasable in your opinion? We would really love to visit the huge Craotian library in the city but, I am all for safety first, followed by convenience and being able to do this in a 9 hour cruise stop. Thank you for any experience or information that you can give.

Also, there are three phases before passengers can board. I'm paraphrasing of course:

Phase 1: Adequate safety for crew plus additional testing

Phase 2: Simulated voyages to test protocols

Phase 3: Phased in return of passengers

The next logical question is how long is each phase? One day? One week? four weeks?

For those who wish to be insured, I believe level three makes any regular health travel insurance policy void (obviously check with your individual provider): "The CDC still has its Level 3 travel notice for cruise ships in place, which warns against anyone taking a cruise because of the high risk of COVID-19 infection on ships."

I purchased insurance through my travel agent and the "covered reasons" includes delays due to quarantine, and trip cancellation due to COVID related sickness or cruise line default due to COVID. I hope that is enough to cover my cruise in March 2021.

  8. According to MSC's website, they have cancelled all sailings through and including December 31, 2020. I am booked on the Seaside for a 4 day to the Bahamas out of Port Canaveral in mid March. I am praying that 3 months of sailings is enough to work out the bugs and get a nice routine down so I may enjoy my cruise. We plan on an excursion in Nassau but, I am very curious about Ocean Cay. It is a day and overnight docking and I wonder if we will be allowed to disembark on the island, and what requirements will be needed. A report was put out about being required to have a health visa to enter the Bahamas so, I am just sitting back, watching and praying all goes smooth with MSC.

  9. I will be in St. Thomas on the Carnival Breeze in a few weeks and we don't dock until 11:30am but, a vlogger told me that the early cruisers will be leaving around the time I get there and it may not be too packed. How long does the taxi ride take? Thanks for all the info in this post!

Morning Star is not open. Are you talking Honeymoon, Water Island or Honeymoon, St John? In the summer, Magens is a great place. It has all your requirements.

I was talking about Honeymoon, St John but, I will definitely check out Megan's. What about Corki? Is it a good place? Thanks for the info, I appreciate it much!

  11. My cruise is docking in Havensight in 3 weeks. Is Morning Star beach open since the hurricane now? All the reports I found are 4-6 months ago. We are also docking late (11:30) and we would like loungers, food, drinks, and nice water and beach. I was originally going to go to Honeymoon beach but, with the ferry only running on the hour, and it taking 30 minutes to get to said ferry, and having to be off the beach by 5pm, that seems like too much rush and not enough beach time. Megan's sounds good but, Morning Star sounds better. What are your thoughts?

Parker Brothers (museum included) looked closed and locked up to me when I drove by yesterday. Saw no cars parked there on a busy cruise day.

I have doubts about this parking. Hopefully I am wrong but I will look again next weekend.

Thanks for keeping us posted and informed. Everyone looks for the best deal but, the best place for their vehicles.

    Here is the latest:

Lots of Honor is no more. Business closed.

The ParkNCruise facility is different now after the hurricane. The nice shelter area is gone and has not been replaced. They squeeze in as many vehicles as they need meaning some vehicles may be blocked in for a while at the end of the cruise.

    ParkNCruise-Air-1.jpg

Park Port Canaveral has moved to their new facility with plenty of parking (next to the Radisson). Each vehicle gets an assigned parking spot on tarmac for easy in and out.

    ParkPortCanaveral-Air-1.jpg

GoPortCanaveral and Beachline are still using the lot in front of the Doubletree. You may have to park on grass.

    ParkGoPortCanaveral-Air-1.jpg

528 Port Park is still the same setup on grass and dirt/sand.

CruiseTime is at the Mall on Merritt Island which is too far away for my liking considering their rates.

    Cruisetime-Grass-Parking.jpg

I have used 528 Port Park once in the past with no complaints but, I found a company called Port Canaveral Valet where its $99 no matter how long your cruise and they wash your car. Have you ever heard of them? I have been trying to find reviews on them.

Yes, you can grab a meal and some coffee and hang out up top. Do take the hint when you see no more passengers and the crew start looking at you funny, you have overstayed. 🙂 You can then move down to the lobby and do more people watching until the final notice. I have actually never heard a "final notice" announcement except when the cruise director told me if we were trying to be the last off, we had done it.

For Orlando, be aware of the possible traffic around the airport in middle of the day, and know the airport is generally an hour away from the activity-type areas. Since you have a car (I'm guessing a rental from Canaveral to the airport), maybe treat the day like an Orlando excursion day. Get off the ship early and try Kennedy Space Center, which is close to port, or drive an hour past the airport to the theme park and touristy areas. I like to shop around Disney Springs (aka Downtown Disney) and eat a late lunch there or Citywalk (near Universal Studios). Some people do daytrips to a park (costs too much for me on a shortened day) or Gatorland, or ride an airboat, or go to that upside-down museum place. Whatever you like, just do a search for that topic and Orlando. You will surely find something of interest, but also keep some place close to the port (Cocoa or Daytona Beach areas) in mind.

You are sooooo right about the traffic around the airport during the day! I am from Orlando and unless you work over there, you stay clear lol.

I suggest Kennedy Space Center as well and maybe a few hours at Jetty Park (right at the port, on the corner across from the launch pads on the water). If you want to be in Orlando, International Drive has some cool places to visit, like Wonder Works (the upside down house), Ripley's, a huge water park, Put put golf, etc. I would suggest you stay away from the Disney area as things are very pricey and crazy busy! If you want to see a park though, I recommend Sea World!
