  1. We are booked on the Carnival Magic for Feb 2020.  It's an 8 day cruise that will be over our February break for schools.

We have 4 kids, who will be 14, 12, 7, and 6 when we go.  We expect it will be full because of break week, but also thought it may not be crazy crowded because it is an 8 day cruise.

We just got back from the Sensation.  There were very few kids on ship this time, and it really had an impact for my kids.

Does anyone have experience with break week cruises?  What should we expect?

    Thank you!

  2. I know Jack's Shack is a ten minute walk down the beach. However, we will have our 4 kids: 13, 11, 6, and 5. There is a 6 seater golf cart for rent. I was thinking it might be worth it to easily get to Jack's, and then tour around the island. Or is it really an easy walk on packed sand (with 4 kids in the sun, and then back again!)

    Thanks!

  3. Our first cruise this December with our 4 kids, ages 12, 10, 5, and 4. We are in Port for 7 hours. I know everyone says the stingrays are amazing. We just aren't entirely sure how the youngest two will do with them, and it's a 3 hour excursion.

The Atlantis submarine looks really cool, but it's more expensive. It only holds 40 people, though, it is a break from being in the sun (and we are all very fair) and it's only 1 1/2 hours. We want to hit 7MB for a bit and just generally explore George Town.

Has anyone done the submarine dive? Any thoughts or suggestions for what to do with the kids?

  4. We are flying in around 11 am on 12/3/17 for a cruise out of Miami on 12/4. I've already reserved a room at Sleep Inn for our family of 6 (DH and myself and our kids: 12, 10, 5, 4). What is nearby? Could we walk to Tarks?

Or...should we look for a different hotel? We were trying to avoid the expense of getting two rooms as many hotel rooms won't fit 6 people, but we will have a lot of time on the 3rd to relax and enjoy FLL. Without a car we need to be in a convenient location.

  5. Im not sure what answer you are looking for...

Sharing is not allowed so giving them one is not allowed

Buying 6 of them strictly to give them 'a sip' in order to provide them with a drink is still sharing.

This is what you are showing your children and the next generation

you will find people that will tell you to share if you want. you will find people tell you its wrong and you shouldnt.

Let your own moral compass be your guide

I side with buying your child the drink a la carte if they want one. if $4.00 is too much there is a different conversation

I said we would NOT get 6 each day to give to the kids under the Cheers program. However, I have read many posts and complaints about the issue of sharing the Cheers program and would like to clarify how stringent the sharing rule is.

On Day 2, if I get one strawberry shake and my husband gets one chocolate shake, and I let my 12 year old and 5 year old have some of mine and my husband let's the other two share his with him, is that considered violating the policy? Getting 6 shakes between the two of us and giving them to the kids would obviously be "sharing of the Cheers program" and is rightly prohibited. But I don't want to get one and let my kids drink some of a once a day shake and have my Cheers card turned off. To me, "sharing Cheers" would be getting 6 milkshakes and giving one to everyone in the family. But if I share my one drink with my kids, I'm sharing but not to the detriment of Carnival and I think that is ok.

This is a very hot topic on the boards, obviously, as I'm being asked what I am teaching the next generation. Answer: that Mom and Dad will give up some for you kiddos. I was not intending to ask how to skirt the system. We were all set to sign them up for Bottomless Bubbles and then when we saw what is included, it seems like our kids will be happy with the drinks included in the cruise fare. The only thing they might want extra would be a milkshake, and from other things I've read about how good the milkshakes are, I was surprised to find they are only $4.

  6. We are going on our first cruise. DH and I plan to get the Cheers package. Our for kids, ages 12,10,5 and 4, don't drink soda and would only drink the OJ from the bottomless bubbles package. It doesn't seem worth getting for them.

The milkshakes are part of Cheers but we can't share. DH and I could each get one a day and let the kids taste it, but we wouldn't keep going back so that we have six of them in one day. Is that acceptable? Or we can buy them a shake a day for what we would have spent on bottomless bubbles!

    Are there only 5 flavors?

  7. We are going on our first cruise with a stop in Ocho Rios in Dec 2017. We dock at 10am and leave at 5pm. Our 4 kids will be 12, 10, 5, and 4. A lot of the ship excursions are out because of the ages of our littlest two.

I did get a quote for a private excursion from a reputable tour company. Their recommendation would be:

Trip to Konoko Falls, stop at a beach, lunch/shopping, and then tubing down the White River. The price, including transportation, is $80/adult and $60/kid, plus whatever our lunch cost is.

This seems too much to do in a day. Would you suggest Konoko Falls or tubing? The 4 year old would need to be in his own tube. Is it like a lazy river?

  8. We are going on our first cruise in December 2017. Our kids will be 12, 10, 5, and 4. The littlest two will be together in the kids club, but the older ones will be split. The oldest turns 12 in late August. I was told by Carnival that it is based on age and she can't be put in with her 10 year old sister's group.

What is the tween group like? I don't want her to be able to sign herself out. She can be a bit shy, too, and won't know anyone. (My 10 year old talks to everyone!) I can keep her with DH and I, but it would be nice to have an hour or two for ourselves during the day.

Am I worrying too much? She is responsible and mature, but I don't want her in with a bunch of 14/almost 15 year olds who sign out and wander the ship.

    Thanks!
