I'm so sorry for your loss ... I prayed for your broken heart. 

A couple things come to mind but mostly hindsite for the givers of the trip ... this was an incredibly generous gift but in these cases you have to give the "whole" gift.   The giver knew the couple's medical and financial constraints, therefore should have taken care of the insurance and passports.  

People in Kentucky are the most uneducated in the country surpassed only by their neighbor to the east.  (Not being ugly this is fact.) These ladies probably asked at some point "We are leaving the country ... we need passports?"  Someone incorrectly let them know they didn't.  Also the thought of trip insurance probably never occurred to either.  Why would it? They never traveled. 

So really this is a lesson learned for anyone wanting to give a trip like this.  

Great review ... simple and a good # of pics.  And no complaining!  Thank you.  I think I will put this cruise on my list as my husband only wants port intensive for the future.

I thought about what I was in my normal terms ... I'm good with Holiday Inn ship cause its HI in Alaska lol 

Hi all ... I'm looking to book a cruise to Alaska ... May 2020.

Here is list of wants: 

- budget friendly ... I would rather spend our trip $$$ off the boat than on. We don't mind a little wear and tear.

- nice sized balconies on regular rooms, not suites.

- we are not foodies, so specialty places don't matter but a good mdr will work

- prefer sail Alaska to Canada  or vice vs ( not out of Seattle and not round trip)

- 0 to few sea days, many ports or sails thru glacier areas 

- smaller ship with less thrills suits us just fine, as long as we are not on it much

- a decent drink package is good too 

- we prefer a ship known for not too many kids but also we are in 40s so maybe not feel like a senior center either, n on carnival party boats 

- 8 to 12 days

I will join on the raisin non fan club ... not all fruit is meant to be dried. How did this become ... come ancient vineyard let their grapes dry up on a vine? Yuck ... not only that they freak you out when found unexpected in restaurant food. Like or what is that a bug or mouse turd or ... oh it's a dead grape aka a raisen.

J - I hope you don't mind a fellow Texan jumping in, but it's on the same lines. I booked us the Northern route Vancouver to Whittier then plan on renting a vehicle and doing our own land tour to Denali and maybe Fairbanks. Anyone done this?
