My plan for Stavanger is to walk around the old town with the beautiful houses and narrow streets. Old Stavanger (‘Øvre Strandgate’).
‘Nedre Strandgate’ 17 and 19 houses the Stavanger Maritime museum. The Norwegian Canning Museum is also located in the area

From there to Bryggen and ‘Skagenkaj’ and ‘Øvre Holmegate’ (Fargegaten) and Valberget viewpoint.
The Norwegian Petroleum Museum is also located in the area
Visit Stavanger Town Center, The Cathedral, City Park and Breiavatnet.

I’m also going to look for all the wall art!

  2. Where can I see this? I have written three emails to the executive staff after the horrible food selection on our recent sailing. I have always chosen celebrity because the food was good…this time they dropped the selections to seven with three being pasta or vegetarian, I won’t sail with them again until menu gets back to what it was!

  3. I just did an Alaskan cruise mid September. I was on the Solstice which is my ship of choice. I was so disappointed in MDR changes! I was on the Solstice Nov 22 and it was the same excellent menu. My husband and I cruise on Solstice because the food has always been so good…we now are looking at other cruise lines. Their formal night menu and use to have beef Wellington and duck…no more. They have cut back entrees from 9 choices to 7…lots of pasta and vegetarian type entrees now. Makes me so sad…we’ve done Princess, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian and weren’t impressed with their MDR menus so maybe Holland?

We are in Alesund for a short day, I think - from 1100 to 1800. This looks like it won’t be enough time for an excursion on the Troll Road, which are 7-8 hours. How best to spend our time?  This will be with Royal Caribbean next June.

We are doing Jewel of the Seas June 2024…I’m starting to search out what to see but with winter coming all the excursions are now winter based. I’m hoping to find some interesting sites to see.

He there, we have been very unlucky in regards to the medallion - we leave Thursday but still can get nothing to work, after repeated repeated tries, and hours on the phone - we are talking probably a total of 8 hours on hold over 3 different tries. Will once again try before we go and let everyone know.

We haven’t received ours so I guess we will be picking them up at dock…

I am fortunate (or crazy enough) to be on the inaugural Princess 2021 Alaska sailings out of Seattle with a really great roll call group on CC that are going to join me in posting to this thread.  If you are on this sailing but not on the roll call, I hope you will also contribute.

We know there are a lot of very valid questions and concerns folks have about what this Alaska season will be like. What I love about live from feeds that have multiple contributors on the same sailing is the various different experiences and point of views presented.  While I appreciate the professional CC, Points Guy etc reviews and live feeds they are, by design, one dimensional.

Our experiences may differ from future sailings as policies, protocols and procedures will most likely be in flux as Princess finds what works (hopefully the the supply chain to restock the bar after we disembark) and what doesn’t (the ap, really?—-what were they thinking?) or as health advisories (OMG don’t even think Delta variant) change.

These are some topics that the roll call group (and hopefully others on our sailing) will try to address on this cruise.  I can not guarantee all will get discussed but hopefully most will.

Please refrain from asking a lot of premature questions if you can.  Try to wait until we are at that stage of the cruise. For example now we might be able to answer questions you have about how we got cruise ready and on Day 2 we could answer questions about All things Embarkation.   Questions about disembarkation would be best posted on our last day at sea.  Otherwise your questions might get buried and forgotten.

    1. Getting Cruise Ready and how we fixed problems we had.  Maybe we will have hindsight on what to get worried about and what to just let go once we board.

    2. All things embarkation: airport expedience, hotel experiences, transportation to the pier, arrival groups (how strict are they?), Elite/suite priority boarding, Blue lane, green lane and is there really a yellow lane (like I was given for a moment in time), showing proof of vaccination and all other travel docs, which MDR is open for lunch, when were the rooms ready (remember we have no disembarking PAX so YMMV).

    3. Dining  Menus for all dining rooms/restaurants/pop ups and room service.  I believe we have some Full Suite in our group so hopefully we will get to see any special menus they get.  Wait times for Anytime, how the reserved times worked (they are every 20 minutes on Dine My Way), is there a chef’s table??????………………….can we dine with others outside of our travel group?

    4. Journey View, Entertainment and reservations: I am so curious as to how this will work.  There is a midnight skies event that holds 35 people and it had no spaces left like 5 minutes after it opened.  What happens if show up to a “sold out” event? Can I still just wonder from venue to venue enjoying 10 minutes of this band or spending 20 minutes dancing in another venue like I used to?

    5. Internet prices and how to purchase, elite/platinum pricing,  what is the speed

    6. Patters if they exist.  I really hope they do since they answer so. many. questions.

    7. Capacity  hopefully we will find out how full the ship is.

    8. Ocean Now Food, Drinks & Shopping okay I will be one of the first to order a drink (with my beverage package) and wait in my room! How well does the ap work around the ship.

    9. How does Princess enforce the restrictions on the unvaccinated?

Will be following as we join you next Sunday!

  7. First time cruiser and first trip to Alaska. Whale Watch and Heli to Glacier are on top of our to-do list. We also would prefer smaller groups.

    On Ruby Princess late August.

Juneau has many options for both:

    Whale watch, Auke Bay Harbor

    Mendenhall via heli

    Taku and Norris via heli

    Skagway not so much:

    Glacier discovery via heli

How do we choose? Trying to do both in Juneau I think is too much?; and don't think schedule would allow?

    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Again complete newbie so please be kind, I'm not seasoned and unfamiliar.

Hi - I'm heading up for my third cruise to Alaska. I just can't seem to get enough. In Juneau, we have done a city type tour - went to Mendenhall and out to a pretty little church -I believe St Theresa's. To be truthful, I'm not that impressed with Mendenhall. I like Hubbard Glacier which to me is what I want a glacier to look like - the ice walls, calving into the water...does your ship go there? The last time in Juneau we went whale watching and saw orcas and grey whales and a lot of eagles. That was Alaska at its best! We did a boat that took maybe 12 people. Skagway this time I'm doing the kroschel wildlife center. I think Princess does this excursion - it is like 6 hours but looks like fun. Plus you have opportunity to see whales due to 40 minute boat ride to Haines. Before we did a tour up to the Yukon -Pretty, not too exciting...we did see a bear. People have rented a car and driven to Emerald lake outside of Skagway which is suppose to be beautiful. Have fun - you will love the beauty of Alaska!

  8. I've always carried my passport in a money belt while touring Europe. This is my first cruise there. My instinct is to keep passports with us wherever we are, but I know some people leave them on the ship and bring paper copies.

    Opinions?

I carry mine. There is a nice belt made by Hips sister for both men and women that is great for carrying money, passports, phone, etc. I buy the global one because it has more room.
