Odds are very high that the ship will be berthed in the heart of the city, so downtown hotels which are good for pre-cruise touring are also good for getting to the ship quickly and easily. Many hotels you may be able to walk from if you can handle your bags. As already asked, budget is probably the biggest factor - if money is no object, the Fairmont is an iconic property in the upper city. If cash is tighter or you have points to burn, there are downtown branches of Marriott, Hilton, Best Western etc.

We've generally been in QC only on business for several years now so it's been the swankier end of things for us as already paid for, but when we lived within road-tripping distance we found the BW+ City Centre consistently offered a low price. The St Roch 'hood that it's in has some great restos & bars as well as being quite walkable to Upper and Lower historic areas when you aren't schlepping luggage (and not much over a mile from the port, so a cheap cab or Uber ride).

Thank you for that.   Never have been here so wasn't sure how far the ship was from these hotels.  I know FLL real well but never here.

  2. Booking a 12 day cruise from Quebec City to New York and arriving there the day before.   Would appreciate anyone that could offer suggestions for a hotel to stay in for an overnight stay before the cruise.   Doesn't need to be fancy, just clean for a good nights sleep.   Didn't know if any had shuttles to the cruise port or best to just Uber it.  I know every detail of where to go and how to go for all our Caribbean cruises but this is the first time we have ever done a Canada/New England cruise.   Any advice would be helpful.   Thanks in advance.

  3. All I can say is you need to book this trip and you will not regret it.  Just back from our cruise and booked this one off the ship.   They have a great website and communicate well with you.   Met us at the port and drove us to their office and went over everything there.   Was supposed to have one other couple but they never arrived so we had our own private tour of the island.  Had done this tour in Aruba as well so hoped it would be a good.   It sure was.   Took a drive all over the island and along rural roads for the most part without much traffic.   Went up along the coastline stopping at various points for pictures, shopping and lunch.   We then came back and got to open it up a little and go back into town where we drove around and saw more sites.   I won't go into every detail here but you won't regret the sites and views from a trike.  Our two guides were awesome and they made us feel like family.   We ended up having about a 4 1/2 hour tour and it was worth every penny.   If you are going to this port, make sure to book this excursion.

  4. Coming into Nassau on Holland America in November and wanted to know if anyone had good luck with a private tour company they would recommend. Ship tours do not look real exciting and looking for a good local who can show us the hidden gems of this port. Active or passive tour ok. Only really can see Cheryl for a tour person. Any other ideas as well?

  6. Forget the ship deal. Book it directly with Royston if you can. We just got back from the trip and Royston only took 3 of us and we all had a great time. He showed us private parts of the island and we got great pictures before hitting the volcano. Just make sure you are in top shape and have good shoes. This isn't a tour for anyone else. Very tough at places and not a real trail you go up. Sometimes you are walking on hands up rocks and roots. Royston however goes at the pace you need to go and carries along water, drinks and snacks. The view at the top is amazing. Should certainly do it if you are in the shape to do so. Check him out though as you will get a better tour for less money.

  7. Did this tour last week and for the most part enjoyed it very much. Only negative was there was more people then Thomas could fit into his van so he split us in 2 parties and we got another driver. Nice guy but didn't speak much English and didn't say much of anything as we drove from stop to stop. We asked questions but he didn't understand so the in the van experience wasn't all that great. Once we got to the stops however, we could speak to Thomas and he was super nice and answered all the questions we had and gave us the personal treatment. Did stop at a local restaurant on the way back who screwed us in prices for food which we weren't told about but overall, the experience with Thomas was a good one. Just make sure to get Thomas as your guide for the best experience.
