It will never go away as long as covid is a political issue. This could have been contained  if the last administration took it serious. I guess it didn’t go away when the weather got warmer.

No, but thank God and Trump that we got a vaccine faster than ever before in history. Just the facts!

The tragedy is non N95 masks are ineffective, multiple scientific studies prove, they do not work.

If you wear one, your choice, enjoy the cruise.

I’m awaiting protocols for each cruise, then cancelling to get my money back, 25 cancelled and refunded so far, 2 in work, 13 to go…..

We will not go until there is a real normal which might never happen, covid will never go away, we learn to live with it or here we are…..

    Stay Safe.

That's what is so great about how cruise lines are handling masks, if you don't want to you don't have to, you just can't be on their ship.

Stay safe and in your own comfort zone!

PaulMCO: Thanks for the info, we took the leap and booked for 2023 on Viking Polaris. we are looking forward to it but there's still two years of cruising to do in the meantime. So after a minor surgery in August we cruise in Oct.2021, Jan.2022 and June 2022 and hopefully when cruise schedules settle out we will book a few more.

thanks again for the info I was nervous when I watched you tube most people looked to be in their 40's.

maybe we'll meet on the lido someday.

PaulMCO another question, we're from Florida so we don't have a lot of warm clothes, did you rent your gear or buy what you needed? Either way could you say where you got the way clothes.

    Thanks in advance.

Go for it.  My wife and I both did the cruise at at 67 and doing it again at age 72 in Nov (we hope).

They tend to cater to both those that can do the strenuous activity and those that want to take it easier.

Many of the land jaunts have a strenuous hike in the hills and a less of one along the shore.

Viking has announced the expansion into expedition voyages. Viking Expeditions will begin sailing in January 2022 with its first vessel, the Viking Octantis, embarking on voyages to Antarctica and North America’s Great Lakes.

A second expedition vessel, the Viking Polaris, will debut in August 2022, sailing to Antarctica and the Arctic. Viking’s arrival to the Great Lakes will bring the newest and most modern vessels ever to explore this region of North America.

The ships will be built by VARD with a capacity of 378 guests each.

Hello London calling; I'm looking at Viking Explorer for Jan. 2023 and I was looking for someone who may have taken an Antarctica expedition before. I'll be 73 for the trip and in fairly good shape, is there much strenuous activity involved in Antarctic sailing. Any and all replies would be appreciated.

We did it previously, and are doing it on our next cruise, but only after making an assessment if it would be a good value for us.

We looked at where our currency was going as related to the USD, got the most current drink price list from Royal Carribean Blog, translated it to CAD and ran it through a spreadsheet where we estimated what we expected to be drinking vs what we'd be looking at if we were buying a la carte.

We purchased our package when it was offered at 30% off.  Full price would not have been worth our while but that offer got us past the break even point, so it made sense.  The thing about the package is that it includes fancy coffees and bottled water.  This is really handy for shore excursion days - people generally don't drink enough water at the best of times and having a few bottles with me going out in the sun has been a real life saver.  Going through 5-6 bottles in a day is pretty normal for me, so that's almost $20.00 a day by itself.  Add a couple of lattes, a glass or two of wine at dinner and the happy hour cocktail and I'm pretty much there.

yeah we did  drink package this cruise the price came down to $45 USD a while back so we jumped on it. We are diamond members so we get a few free drinks each night which skewed the numbers a little, but on sea days the drinks can add up and fresh squeezed juice with breakfast and as you said water to take both to your room and on excursions. It's funny last time I got the package I wound up drinking a soda everyday (I don't usually have soda unless there's Captain Morgan in it.🛳😎

  7. Well you're all making me feel a lot better. Phew! Thanks!!!!

don't let the hype get to you, the meals in the dinning room are as good as any restaurants, there are a lot of people who want to be seen in pricey restaurants(you paid for food with trip then pay for same meal again) as for ports depending where you're cruising to if it beach area ask the crew for closest beach. Also if you do chose to have a meal outside the dinning room a place just a short walk from the terminal will usually have good local ambience at a reasonable price. Happy sailing and impress no one except yourself!
