You need to look at the fact that if you drink specialty coffee, fresh OJ at breakfast, water and a few drinks during the whole day would you have had enough to justify getting the DDP! only you can say for certain but look at what you might drink (port days and sea days) and if you think it is worth it then get the package and you won't have to worry about a bill at the end of the cruise. If you don't think you will drink enough to justify it then pay as you go. After a cruise or two am sure you will know.

makes a lot of sense. thanks for the feedback. hadn't thought this whole process through.

If only the advertised prices of a Cruise were true prices. So much more to add on once booked.

But to answer your question I read somewhere (I could be wrong) that the break even was 5 drinks per day?

My advice would be to cruise a lot this year and take advantage of those double points and get to Diamond where you get 4 free drinks per day.

Level up with Diamond Plus at 5.

Pinnacles have open bar at all times. (kidding)

thanks for the input. I think I'm one cruse away from becoming a Diamond Member

  3. Still trying to decide on whether or not to purchase drink package, but with some feedback from fellow Cruise Critic members, hopefully I will make my decision.  Sailing on Oasis of the Seas next year (I realize prices may change between now and then), so I"m wondering what domestic beers costs per purchase, and mixed drinks (ex. gin/tonic), and also the slushy drinks like a pina colada costs if I purchase individually. And I also realize the 18% gratuity is tacked on.  Please be kind in your responses. No mean spirited comments.  Thanks

  4. Two quick questions for anyone who can help:

    1. Is there traditional "Formal Nights (2)" on Anthem of the Seas? We sail on 10/27/18. I've read on CC that there is no formal night any longer on Anthem, but when we called RCCL we were told there are two Formal Nights in the Main Dining Room. We always dress appropriately for dinner, but would like to know if I need to be Suite and ladies in our group need to bring formal attire.

    2. as you can tell by my code name, I'm from the Philadelphia area. Eagle play in London on the Sunday of our Cruise. What are the chances that the game will be shown on TV's? Is there a sports bar on Anthem? or should I search for televised game at other locations on the Ship (Schooner Bar, Casino Bar, etc.) ?

  5. I received notice yesterday from RCCL that the 08/31/18 sailing of Adventures of the Seas has been cancelled.

They said the ship has been re-deployed. What does that mean?

RCCL has given us three option: 1. refund

    2. Book a RCCL in May for same $ and onboard credit

    3. Book any other available cruise for same category and OB Credit

not sure of all option details, but those are general terms.

Does anyone know anything I should be aware of before I proceed to re-book?

    Helpful feedback would be appreciated.

  6. Thought I was Diamond Member, but found out I'm Emerald Member. Just a few more points till I become Diamond. I have a question about Drink Package Specials for Emerald Member.

I realize RCCL has drink package special offers once in a while for Diamond Members, but do they ever have special deals for drink packages for Emerald Members. I frequently check my cruise planner for specials, but I don't want to waste my time all over the next few month if specials offers are only offered to Diamond Class members and higher.

  7. I am a Diamond Member. Just booked our cruise for next year.

Does RCCL ever offer any type of discount, coupons or special deals on their drink packages prior to the actual cruise date. I will most likely purchase the drink package, but I was just wondering if I should wait and see if they offer any special deals over the next year until my actual cruise departure date arrives.

  8. Dear Buckimion,

Our group of 8 just returned from 9 day cruise upon GOS on Saturday @ 08/27/16. We stopped at Bahamas on Tuesday @ 08/23/16. Just outside Port gate, we connected with cab driver who took all 8 of us in large air-conditioned cab for $4.00 per person (round-trip) to view Atlantis. We only wanted a one hour quick tour of some island attractions, but mostly see Atlantis close-up. Cabbie was nice, talkative, and informative. He stuck to one hour schedule. We also tipped him for his service. There were three ships in port at the time so cabbies were not hurting for business. You need to barter slightly. Eventually, you'll find a cabbie to accommodate your needs. Good luck.

  9. Our group of eight will be on same cruise. We have 13 year old and 15 year old joining us for first time. We have same concerns about keeping them occupied and not wanting them to be glued to their phones. Phones will be locked away in safes. Five in our group sailed Grandeur for the first time last year. We always sailed Voyager Class. We all really like Grandeur. Like ship's layout and especially centrum area. We booked this cruise while on our 2015 Grandeur Cruise. Booked same rooms and got a real good deal. No complaints about Grandeur. Beautiful ship with lots to do. Hoping for smooth sailing with two "no phone" teenagers.
