We just were there 2 weeks ago and my original plan was to go to Coral Beach but when we arrived at the port the driver suggested we go to Public Beach instead that it was a nicer beach.  Public Beach is located right next to the old Calico Jack's and shares the same beach and there is no entry fees.  There were several chairs and umbrellas to rent about $15 for 2 chairs and $20 including an umbrella there are nice restroom facilities closer to the parking lot area and there are several local vendors that are selling bbq plates, beer, and rum punch.  Beach and swimming were great, we had a wonderful day there.

The way you talk about public beach is as if its the name of a beach. But I can't find one called public beach. If you mean seven mile beach, how would I find the same spot as you on such a big beach?

  2. Ship docks at 5am.  If I book a car for 8.30 to get to hotel before 10.30 - seem reasonable?

If I decide to carry my own luggage, let's say I leave ship at 8.15 - What time will I need to leave room and I imagine I then have to carry luggage around whilst getting breakfast?

Thanks for all this.  I don't fancy taking a train, too many moving parts to add extra stress.  John, what were your reasons for a train?  Cost, convenience, speed?  What was your main motivator given it's more fiddly than just booking a car?

  4. Thanks everyone.  119E does seem to be about the price I can find for a private shuttle.  Maybe leaving at 830 will give us plenty of wiggle room. Need to be at tour 11am.  Hotel is 5 minutes walk to Coliseum.

Need to check luggage in to hotel.  May have time for a icecream if we are lucky.

Options for leaving the ship are -

    1.  Walk off with own cases.

    2.  Get into the right timed group without cases.

So if I book a car for 8.30 - and leave ship at 8.15, will that work with either option?  Last time I disembarked a ship, someone else took one of my cases so it delayed us.  This time have coloured belts for the luggage so shouldn't be an issue.

    Which option is best?

  5. Hi, sorry not a sexy title but I have a quandary.

My cruise arrives in Port at 5am. I need to book transport to an hotel in Rome and want to get there fairly early around 1030. I want to go on an underground coliseum tour at 1130.

But I have no idea what time I will get off ship and thru customs ready for a waiting car.

Let's say, I want to get in the car at 9am. I imagine that will give me enough time to get to the hotel in cental Rome.

What do I need to do to make this happen?

BTW,  it will be the Beyond in August so pretty excited.

If you are disembarking independently in Civitavecchia (e.g., without a ship transfer), there are free port buses that circulate and will take you (and your luggage) to the port entrance.

You will not find any "free" taxis IN the port in all likelihood as they normally only let in taxis with pre-booked reservations. I don't know how many taxis you'll find at the port entrance.

Where are you staying in Civitavecchia?

    Nothing booked yet...

  7. Sorry, looks like my question may not have been that clear.

Just looking at what I should do once I disembark so that I am not waiting around for hours.

My flight will be the day following disembarkation so I could stay in the port area or go to Rome or even stay near the airport.

Just trying to figure out the best way to get out of the port and it looks like booking a shuttle or something like that.

    Wondered what others have done?

  8. Hi, on my last cruise, we disembarked in Monaco and we had to wait around for hours for taxis.

I am planning my next cruise and the final day is Rome.

Just wondering if I will be waiting for hours again or if it will be fairly straightforward to get into Civitavecchia for an overnight stay?

  9. The U.S. for these comments, really useful. Out first cruise last year was on oceania and we really enjoyed it. I did feel the motion of the ocean one night after entertainment,  really funny all stood at the elevator and swaying, makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Seems like there isn't much difference between celeb and princess.

  10. Last year went on first cruise with Oceania Riveria.  Really enjoyed it.

This year will go with in laws.  Age range 50 - 75

We need to depart from UK to the Med so came up with these 3 ships.  What are your thoughts?  Pros and cons?

An example is I have just seen a review about one of the ships that is rolled a lot.  Can't remember which one..

Anyway, any help will be appreciated.

  11. Hi,

We are celebrating our younger son's college graduation on the June 4th Bermuda cruise. We have booked a Royal Suite for the 4 of us. None of us have been to Bermuda and are looking forward to it. We have cruised just once as a family on Norwegian Gem about 7 years ago and were on the concierge level which is why we thought a RS might have comparable services (butler, etc.).

I have a couple of questions that I was hoping I can get some help with:

    1. While the hubby and I are perfectly content to sit by the pool and do nothing all day with a cocktail, the boys need to be somewhat busy. Is there enough for them to do on this ship? The younger son just turned 21 so they are looking forward to the bars and the casino but is that enough on Sea days?

    2. What is the best way to schedule excursions in Bermuda and which ones do you recommend? We like beach and water sports.

    3. Do I have to book meals now or do I wait till we are on board? Also, is it safe to assume that we will eat as a family or do we share tables with others?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Hi, what did you do in the end? Please spill the beans..
